Customer Reviews:
Lots of very very expensive homes........2007-02-20
I will never be able to afford any of the homes in this book, and even if I could, I don't think I'd want something that big. Regardless, it is fun to look
Good idea book.......2006-02-15
I bought this book to get ideas for a custom home we were building. I loved the full-page color photos, and found a few ideas I could incorporate in my new home, even though it is much smaller than these plans! I love Colonial, European, and Neo-classic styles, so there were only a few homes with touches of these styles (hence, only 4 stars), but I still found the book useful. For more classic, European style homes, I highly recommend "Villa Decor - Decidedly French and Italian Style" and "French Influences", both by Betty Lou Phillips.
Not the best bang for the buck. .......2006-02-05
The photos in this book are not exclusive, as they can be found in many other books and magazines. It is certainly a better value than "dream home" magazines that usually sell for $7 a pop at the newstands, but it pales in comparison to "Dan Sater's Luxury Home Plans". Sater's book is better in just about every way... larger format, larger pictures, thicker paper, a better selection of homes in my opinion (not to mention a few identical ones), and a lower price.
You probably already know that the purpose of these books is to sell home plans. That's why they're so cheap. From a consumer standpoint, they're fun to browse through and you don't feel any buyer's remorse since you can easily spend more money at McDonald's.
If you're looking for a book to get valuable ideas for your next home or remodel, take a look at "Home by Design" by Sarah Susanka.
Every house features full color photos!.......2004-05-28
I have bought house plan books before and normally only the first few are in full color and then the rest are black and white and don't show any interior photos. This book, however, has full color photos for every house plan featured. They show a few interior pictures for each, and it is by far the best house plan book I have found. Although, every plan in this book is quite large and you'd have to be a millionaire to be able to afford them.
Quite interesting!!.......2004-03-29
Ok,I just read...well skimmed through this book,I just looked at the pics of all the gorgeous houses. My house is custom designed and I wanted to see some other interesting designs.Well I certainly got alot of ideas for my next house,I personally think i'ts a brilliant book that anyone that is fascinated with wealth should read!

total waste of money!!!.......2007-04-07
this book was not helpful at all!!!i had just recently got into manga and anime drawing so i thought that this book would be helpful to me you know with the title being "basics for beginners" and all. all it did was show me useless information.all it does is show you characters made out of these weird rectangle type things only and then the finished project (but thats all no hair no clothes no nothing), instead of step-by-step directions on everything. if you are a beginner i would highly reccomend NOT, i repeat NOT getting this book!!! it confused me and didn't actually show me how to draw anything!!!if your a beginner and don't know where to start, your not alone!!! although this is the first book i ever got on the whole anime subject i would suggest some other how to draw manga books but definately not this one. try how to draw manga ultimate manga lessons volumes 1-6 and more how to draw manga volumes 1-4. believe me if you want, if you think diferently and want to try it any way be my guest but in my oppinion it's a total waste of money!!! hope this helped!!!

Nice Book.......2007-01-10
Bought it as a Christmas gift for one of my nieces. I looked through it before I gave it to her. The book looks like it's got alot to offer. Maybe I'll get one for myself in the future.
tasteless.......2006-06-28
This book tasteless. There are comics in the back of the book where there is a pedophilia scene. A young boy is seduced by a older man. It's not very nice. It also shows how to draw seductivley. This book is not appropriate for young people.
It's awesome .......2005-11-06
I would recommend this for all beggining artist in magna, it has helped me alot, now i'm on the search for a magna book that teaches to draw clothing. This will really increase your drawing prowess

Book Description
Pierre Gagnaire grew up on the outskirts of the industrial city of Saint-Ètienne-a gastronomic wasteland in central France. And so the soon-to-be legendary French chef found himself free of culinary ties, thus free to choose and mix ingredients as he pleased and free to disregard traditions, but always driven by logic and good taste.
Since he opened his first restaurant in 1980, Gagnaire has become famous for the architectural nature of his dishes-sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical, they are always structured with a deep sense of rhythm. His highly personal cooking combines fantasy and poetry with technical mastery and is widely considered France's most innovative and exhuberant chef.
Gagnaire's superb culinary rhythm leads naturally to a final dish, dessert, which brings a sweet counterpoint to the savoriness of his main courses. For him, these final recipes are not afterthoughts, but the appropriate end to a complete creation. Beautiful color images by renowned food photographer Jean Louis Bloch Linée's reveal the richness of these incredible creations.
Customer Reviews:
Know What Youre Buying.......2004-10-01
For all you out there denouncing this book, I think you simply just didn't know what you were purchasing. Yes, I am dissapointed in the lack of recipes (hence the four stars) and the zen-like reflection on food can be a bit much, but this is a mix between poetry and photography. It is also meant to stimulate your mind. Most of the pictures are representations of the food. One is not paying for drops of consumme on an illuminated plate or table at Gagnaire's restaurant. You are supposed to imagine, reinvent the food that is on the page. Its meant to be appreciated, not copied. You see foie gras and hazelnuts on the page? Try and cook it in a way that sounds good to you...
Pierre Gagnaire : Reflections from a Culinary Con-Artist.......2004-06-29
I waited months for this book to be delivered. This book epotomizes the con game called fine dining; over priced self indulgent fluff with no substance. Like a restaurant of the same quality you may read through the book once if you can stomach it but you'll never want to go back. No one has to put pierre gagnaire on a pedastal, he gets on it himself.
Beautiful and Useless.......2004-06-10
If you are a chef whose acquisition of three Michelin stars is but a receding memory in your ascent to superstardom, you clearly don't need this book. If you are anything less, it is useless. Beautiful pictures engender intense frustration since, as has been noted, there is not a line of guidance and only captioned, seemingly arbitrary lists of ingredients (from one of which I learned that carva (sic) is a Spanish sparkling wine). Otherwise, only nuggets of cheffie, quasi-philosophical prattle, viz: "it (a pineapple) has been seduced, massaged - the multiple cooking procedures were long and mindful (but undescribed)...Three kinds of cherries are waiting for their train, carrying amazing suitcases...At first there is a strong feeling to create, then comes this desire to render details in all their nobility (too bad Gagnaire didn't render them in the book)...I look at this plate and say: I don't remember it anymore. It is terrible; at the same time it's reassuring ( I shouldn't be too confident of that if I were you, Pierre, and it doesn't reassure me!)" On and on for 200 pages. A frontispiece is a photograph of the great chef, The Thinker manque, eyes closed in concentrated thought, head in hands. It is a pose that every reader will strike after time spent in trying to make head or tail of this drivel.
This could have been a great addition to the kitchen - he is after all a talented and innovative chef. Instead, it is a rambling, self-indulgent, one might almost think hallucinogen-born disgrace. The pictures may make it worth the money, but only if you possess not merely the culinary but the telepathic skills to turn them into reality.
If you believe that this book may yet deserve a berth on your coffee table, I can only suggest: make sure that you give it a wide one.
Style over substance........2004-02-07
Like other reviewers, I was looking forward to trying recipes from this book. What a massive disappointment to find NONE!. Eye candy, yes. A big tease, for sure.
Agree with the review from Canaan, but..........2004-01-03
I was disappointed that this book did not contain recipes, but once I got over that and began to look at the incredible pictures, I realized there is a lot more to this book than meets the eye. This is not a book of recipes, but a book of inspiration. The photos gave me a lot of new ideas for presentation (and you can spend a lot more time looking at the food then you would on the plate at Pierre Gagnaire) and Gagnaire's little blurbs and tidbits remind me a lot of Fernand Point's Ma Gastronomie, in that one sentence can generate a lot of new thoughts about food or a specific ingredient. This book is not for everyone, but worth a look for those familiar with Gagnaire.

Welcomed Surprise.......2005-09-26
I ordered this book in error what I was looking for was the movie Bell, Books and Candles. When the item arrived I was about to return it and I skimmed through the pages. I did not return it instead I read it and now it is apart of my eclectic library.
Fun Play, Speaks to Subcultures, But Weakens Toward Close.......2002-03-08
I can't really believe I'm saying this, but if you've seen the film with Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart, then there's really not much that's new here for you. What the play *does* do, however, is cut out all the extra material that the film introduces, concentrating instead on the facinating love story between the witch Gilian and an "ordinary" man, Shep.
Growing up, I enjoyed the movie because, well, it was about magic and witches and was distinctly urban-filled with smoky underground clubs and jazz. Now that I'm older, however, I appreciate the story because of how I think it speaks to feelings which are present in no doubt many, if not all subcultures. Gillian's uncertainty about being a witch-pride mixed with a longing for something *different* in her life, something she wonders about without being certain that she'd want to actually experience-are very significant to the story.
Unfortunately, Van Druten seems to have lost interest in this thread toward the end of the play. Its close seems to be that of a rather traditional love story, albeit with the trappings of witches and sorcery. Gillian's emotions seem very two-dimensional. Although she says that the emotions she's experiencing are "new" to her, it seems as though she could have had more of an opportunity to try and express them a little better. You don't get a lot of time to sense that much is different with her aside from redecorating her apartment.
Another weakness I found in the play is that it seems the slightest bit rushed after Gillian tells Shep that she's a witch. I always kind of felt that way about the movie, too, but it really seems apparent here without the film's additional distractions and extra scenes. The events in the first two acts and the first scene in Act III take place over two weeks, whereas the final scene in Act III takes place two months later. The events of the preceding two months are summarized, in retrospect, by Gillian's aunt without any real glimpse of what either Gillian or Shep had been like in the interim.
Despite its weaknesses, however, this is an entertaining and even thought-provoking play if you're the type to carry it out of its context and contemplate it a little further. For its sake, I hope you are.
