Very Good Introduction to Enterprise Architecture.......2007-06-22
"Introduction to Enterprise Architecture" is a very good text for a student or experienced professional to start to understand this very complex topic. The more useful aspect of the book is how it shows you the required elements of any Enterprise Architecture, and how they fit together. That is the most important thing for any Enterprise Architect to learn. That is presented well in the book.
In addition, there is a good summary of many of the most referenced EA Frameworks.
The examples are good, especially, the appendices that walk you through the specific deliverable documents for several of the well known EA Frameworks. That alone, is well worth the price of the book.
EA classroom book.......2007-02-17
I took Dr. Bernard's grad level EA class (Syracuse Univ. in Washington, DC) in 2004 and this was one of the courses texts. Nothing better than having the author and the professor to study at the same time. Dr. Bernard's approaches are building on the standards of the EA industry. Dr. Bernard's 3 cubed model takes EA into a new direction. He truly wants to build upon the forefathers of this field. Dr. Bernard's passion of this subject shines through in his dedication to EA in federal government. I enjoyed this book (Edition 1) and look forward to future updated versions of this book and comparsions of other EA models.
Excellent textbook for intended market.......2007-02-17
Professor Bernard provides an excellent textbook for the federal sector in An Introduction to Enterprise Architecture. Scott strove to meet this market niche need and met that goal. As a collaborative editor to Scott on the final text, I know he was very exacting with his desires to have this text presented in the manner he choose-after receiving many suggestions for alternative presentation considerations-Scott stuck to his original agenda. Working with Professor Bernard was enjoyable-he is a conscientious man and considerate soul to work with. I fully endorse his book.
Worth reading to set up an EA program.......2007-01-30
IF you are looking to set up a new Enterprise Architecture program for your organization, this book outlines the steps you should follow. Please note that it doesn't teach you how to be an Enterprise Architect.
EA3 is worth reading.......2006-10-16
EA is the application of rigorous methods to the management of Enterprise IT. Rigorous methods require, well, rigor. As a new practitioner of EA you will quickly find that you must choose how you will document the enterprise, and how you will then document the documentation formats so they are repeatable. This is dull work, tedious, and error prone. Dr. Scott Bernard has done the work for you. It will save you weeks of thankless dull effort. The advantage of this work is not academic theory and fancy hocus pocus, it is not advancing some odd software approach designed to displace system engineering in EA practice, it is not endless words to make you sound smart to the CEO, but trench warfare level lists of real artifacts with documentation and examples for real practitioners. Thank you, Scott Bernard from a 20 year practitioner of the art of enterprise scale IT architecture and strategic planning.
(On balance I should also mention that the cube, while it is an improvement on the FEAF triangle Dr. bernard helped author, remains imperfect as a clarifying device. It is unclear what the third dimension represents- some muddiness remains in the conceptualization. The EA3 cube is not the icon of EA that the Zachman matrix is... yet. I await his next try for yet another improvement.)

It was well layed out, had good info, but wasn't that incredible. Stencil Pirates and Street Logos are way better books. Buy those before you buy this one. If you have a little cash to burn then buy this book.
great subject matter poorly handled.......2006-08-13
The name of the book reflects the content well, it's not a "graffiti" book. C-100 covers a lot of artists and styles but unfortunately all images are very small (but good and high-quality) and there is no text at all. I think this book should be more than just an image gallery. There is a little survey, which some of the artists included in the book had to fill out, but most of them just make fun of it missing the great opportunity to introduce themselves to the world, well, maybe they just don't need it, it's a street art anyway.

Art of Rebellion is a rad little book. It doesn't set out to be the encyclopedia of Street Art, but is more like a best of the best in terms of the new forms. As an extra bonus, the "bellyband" made out of stickers.
Great art smashed on page.......2004-05-06
This is the best book on Street Art and individual artists available, hands down. Way too many boks on the subject try and turn it into a gallery exhibit, but c-100 shows the pieces just as they should be: in their natural, urban setting.
With that said, this book is horribly laid out, designed, and edited. I think every page of text has some typo error in it, and the overall design is just very cluttered and hard to follow. The text, especially the artist interviews are often illegible, which is a shame because they have good information. ANd overall, the images are smashed 10-16 a page. i really wish someone would have stepped in and edited it.
As a graphic designer, I love the subject matter and the concept, but I cant stand seeing someting so interesting be so poorly handled.
Buy it to look at the awesome (albeit small-sized) art, just dont try and read the text.

Uneven.......2006-08-05
The fact that a book has reached its fourth edition usually means it has some merit that readers have found useful. If that's the case with this book, it's a mystery to me how the book ever got out of the first edition.
First of all, the title "Single-Camera Video Production" led me to believe that the book's focus is on how to do everything for a video production using a single camera. For the bulk of the book, that's not what it's about. It's really a general book about using a video camera. (One section even illustrates using 5 cameras--rehearsing and preparing talent!)
Second, the illustrations are terrible. They look like they were done by a non-designer using Etch-a-sketch. Further, the drawings of the complex video cameras were so generic and seemingly dated that they were totally useless. However, that didn't matter because I didn't buy the book to learn about video cameras (that keep changing regularly), but rather some wisdom on the production process where the videographer is trying to produce using a single camera.
The reason that this book is rated two-stars instead of 1 (or 0) is because there were some materials on lighting with a single camera that were useful. (However, there was nothing unique and that I couldn't find on the Web for free.)
All in all, this book is a poorly crafted one, and one that I could cobble together with a topic search on the Web. Unfortunately, I think that a good book on Single-Camera Video Production is something that would be very useful. This just isn't it.
Good style but flawed by inaccurate info.......2006-01-12
Mr. Musburger tackles a very wide range of information in a comfortable and easy to read style. He peppers his text with interesting tidbits about TV production and technology and covers a lot of ground.
There are some unfortunate factual errors in this edition (I have not read earlier editions). Focal Press should improve their editing process and attempt to have more industry experts read books like this before going to press.
All in all this is a good overview for someone starting out in video production as long as they continue to seek out other information from various sources. Instructors in the field can furnish errata for their students that will greatly increase the value of this book.
Better fact checking would have made this a strong recommendation.
An excellent resource for student filmmakers.......2002-10-08
Now in a fully updated and expanded third edition, Single-Camera Video Production by Robert B. Musburger (Associate Professor, School of Communication, University of Houston), is a straightforward and highly recommended guide based upon the author's many years of practical field experience to planning, shooting, and editing video productions shot on location with essentially one camera at the filmmaker's disposal. An excellent resource for student filmmakers, Single-Camera Video Production offers a wealth of technical detail on audio signals, the scanning system, digital signal standards, camera controls, microphone types, and more, including sound advice on the social side of shooting film such as directing talent.
