Once I opened it, I couldn't put it down and trust me with 204 pages loaded with 140 color photos of breathtaking architectural eye candy, this book will demand your focus.
Kalomirakis brings the elegance of yesteryears movie palaces home with the help of writers Steve Castle, Dean Koontz and photographer Phillip Ennis.
You can truly see Kalomirakis' love for the big screen in the architectural details he adorns his private cinemas with. No details are spared in Kalomirakis' work from neon marquees and ticket booths welcoming visitors to his theaters to opulent lobbies adorned with domed mural ceilings and snack bars and timeless columns.
A few times while reading this book, I had to remind myself that the featured theaters I was viewing were in someone's personal residence.
I have to say my personal favorite theater in this book was created for author Dean Koontz called "The Moonlight." Koontz also has an introduction in the book.
Even though most of the theaters in this book take up more square footage than the average persons home. And even though theaters designed by Kalomirakis are beyond the financial means of most people, this book can serve as inspiration for those that want to bring home the silver screen on a lesser budget and do it in style.
Theo Kalomirakis' newest book Great Escapes definitely brings home the look of the movie palaces of yesterday.

Mr. Show on Mr. Showbiz.......2005-08-30
This book is by Walt Disney's publicist, Mr. Charles Shows. He spent more behind the scenes time with Walt, sitting quitly in the background in meeting after meeting than perhaps anyone else. Very honest. Some books simply bash Walt after the fact, some sugarcoat everything. Charles does not do eithr, he just tells it like it is. Very interesting book, I reccommend you track it down. Another book that should be on Amazon but isn't as of this time, is the book by Harry Tytle, a studio administrator and producer who spent considerable time with Walt.

This book will help anyone get their first good pictures with any technology, analog or digital. When I was twelve, I digested an early edition of this Kodak book and that put me on the road to a career as a technical writer at Kodak, where I eventually worked for one of the authors of that early edition: Tom Miller, Jr. Nearly every photographer mentioned in this edition was someone I worked with, personally. And I treasure being able to pass on anything I have learned from all of them every time I'm asked; this little book will continue to do it for me.

Do you know the difference between a photograph and a picture? This book will give you a good understanding of the basics of photography. It will introduce you to the rules (or Techniques) of photography that will make your pictures turn more into Photographs. Rule of thirds, selective focus, depth of field and how to make lighting work for you are just a few of the techniques that are available. Good book to get started, highly recommend.

There has been so many things I have been doing wrong and never knew why my pictures would turn out the way they did, this book explains everything that I need to know.

This book was written in 1982, updated in 1995. It has a whole section on cameras, which isn't useful since most of them are outdated. Doesn't even mention digital cameras. Since it specifically discusses the mechanics of cameras, I found this book to be disappointing.
This book is a VERY easy read!.......2005-05-30
I have a very old copy of this book...dated 1982...and it's been a super guide in helping me to understand photography. The examples and all the photos make it easy to follow and even though I am digital, I am able to incorporate the information.
I think this book is a wonderful resource for anyone who wants to learn and understand photography basics...from lighting...to composition...it explains it all.
I think it's a very good 'first' photography book.

An easy to read and interesting account of Gretzky's career. He is truly a hero and this book really tries to capture his spirit. This book is appropriate for hockey lovers of all ages - I bought it for my 11 year old son and found myself enjoying it immensely. The photos are fantastic and there are many of them. This book is great for any hockey player or coach and ours is kept on our coffee table.

I admire everything about Wayne Gretzky and everything he has done. But i also think Andrew did a poor job reflecting how much wayne gretzky has really accomplished. He is not just a great player , he is a great person. The book lacked certain detail and as the other reviewer said. It probably is only meant for a 3rd grade level =)

I bought this book for my 3rd grade son to write a paper with, and found myself completly engaged in it. For someone who didn't know much about "The Great One", I am now as big a fan as my son! Tells a lot about his younger years and doesn't just focus on the goals. AWESOME

I'm writing about the book I read in Social Studies. This book was farly good. This book talked about Wayne's life. It said that when he was a little kid he moved to Toronto to get away from all the paretens who's kids were mad that he was always scoring. At a young age Wayne played hockey with his grandmother. Wayne was also great as a young boy. Wayne was 18 years old when he started to play hockey in the NHL. Wayne has 40 Reular season records. Wayne played for 4 different teams. Wayne Gretzky is the greats or one of the greats. I think that if you like sports you should read this book.
