Has lots of tables and charts, and is adequately explained. The author also writes study guides for standardized architecture tests, and that pretty much sums up the style: no opinions, just facts. Very thorough though. Personally I don't need a whole chapter on locks, but I suppose there are those who do. Presentation and graphics are a bit low-rent for an architecture book.
Thorough knowledge for Interior construction and details.......2001-03-27
This book should be on the shelves of every interior designer- it's so thorough that it's a little cumbersome at first. It should be used as a reference book, it gives chapter-by-chapter explanations on the specifics for the construction and application of windows, casegoods, partitions, etc. If there is ever any doubt in a designers mind as to how exactly something is constructed or works when it comes to the specifics of interior design, this book's for you.

I received this book yesterday and I have to say it's the best polymer clay instruction book I've come across. The instructions are very clear and the diagrams and finished pictures are 100% top quality. I particularly liked the section on measurements of clay needed to make specific sized balls, arms, legs etc. It takes the guess work out of modelling. If you are looking for an great polymer clay instruction book with good quality figures to make, this is the book you NEED to have.

Love this book!.......2006-12-12
I really love this book. It has cute ideas and the pictures make it hard for you to mess it up. I mainly bought it for the cute mermaid globe on the cover but found that I liked quite a few of the other figures as well. What I like best is all the different techniques, especially the ones using metal leaf. Its not just 'make this shape, this shape, and stick em together', theres lots of clay blending techniques along with it so you can make color swirls, add glitter, and some cane methods. I've never used a pasta machine before so the tips there were helpfull. I'm for the most part a beginner so I was looking for a book that would give me a good idea how to start and some fun techiniques to play with on my own and this book was exactly what I was looking for.

This is a truly unique book. These aerial photographs are masterful artwork. The photographer has captured some of the most enchanting spots in Greece with expert use of natural light. Strolling through this book over and over again makes me see a land that is even more beautiful from the air than from the land; makes me see a beauty that previously I could only feel. The photo of the Skiathos fisherman in his boat suspended in the sea is absolutely magical! Going through this book after you return from Greece takes you back. Reading it before you visit impels you to go. Exquisite!

Beautiful bird's eye view of Greece.......2000-03-31
Whether or not you've been to Greece, a breeze through this book gives you a feeling of being there, taking you to the country's most popular and beautiful sites from a perspective unavailable to most. Although the colors and uniqueness are difficult to portray, this comes very close. The photo of Zakynthos made me cry, and the photo of a village wedding stirred my soul. It is a beloved addition to my collection, and an album of understanding for those who have never seen it in person--simply look through its pages and see Greece.
I give this book 5 stars for what it presents, but I think the true heart of Greece lies not only in the chalk-white cliffs and Greek blue waters, but also in its people (which of course are difficult to photograph from the air!).
Absolutely mind-bogglingly beautiful photos.......2000-03-02
I have never in my life seen such absolutely incredible photos. If you want to see Greece at its absolute best, nothing else can compare. There are a number of photos here that by themselves are worth the price of the book. I can never recall having a book that is as captivating the 100th time I look through it as the first time. The picture of the fisherman in his boat seemingly floating on air is just simply the most amazing photo I've ever seen.
If you have any friends or relatives who are Greek or have been to Greece, this is absolutely the best gift you can give them.

I especially like shots that include the Mediterranean, which can be mind-bogglingly blue. Even those parts of Greece that look barren and stony when you're on the ground take on a whole new texture and beauty when photographed from the air.

Description:
The aim of the present work is to evaluate the potential of various developed neural network models to provide reliable predictions of PM"1"0 hourly concentrations, a task that is known to present certain difficulties. The modeling study involves 4 measurement locations within the Greater Athens Area which experiences a significant PM-related air pollution problem. The PM"1"0 data used cover the period of 2001-2002. Artificial neural network models were developed using a combination of meteorological and time-scale input variables. A genetic algorithm optimization procedure for the selection of the input variables was also evaluated. The results of the neural network models were rather satisfactory, with values of the coefficient of determination (r^2) for independent test sets ranging between 0.50 and 0.67 for the four sites and values of the index of agreement between 0.80 and 0.89. The performance of examined neural network models was superior in comparison with multiple linear regression models that were developed in parallel (r^2 for regression models ranging between 0.29 and 0.35). Their performance was also found adequate in the case of high-concentration events, with acceptable probabilities of detection and low false alarm rates. The suitability of the developed neural network models for use at real-time conditions was further evaluated for PM"1"0 hourly concentrations recorded during the days of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The concentrations of trace metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) adsorbed to total suspended particulate (TSP) and finer fractions of airborne particulate matter (PM) were determined from a site in the centre of Athens (Greece), which is characterized by heavy local traffic and is densely populated, during the winter and summer periods in 2003-2004. Also, we collected and analyzed samples of diesel and gasoline exhaust particles from local vehicles (buses, taxis and private cars) and from chimney exhaust of residential central heating appliances. A seasonal effect was observed for the size distribution of aerosol mass, with a shift to larger fine fractions in winter. The most commonly detected trace metals in the TSP and PM fractions were Fe, Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr, V, Ni and Cd and their concentrations were similar to levels observed in heavily polluted urban areas from local traffic and other anthropogenic emissions. Analysis of 16 PAHs bound to PM showed that they are mostly traffic related. In general, the fine particulate PAHs concentrations were higher than coarse particles. The most common PAHs in PM"1"0"."2 and PM"2"."1 were pyrene, phenanthrene, acenapthylene and fluoranthene, which are associated with diesel and gasoline exhaust particles. The results of this study underlined the importance of local emission sources, especially vehicular traffic, central heating and other local anthropogenic emissions. Compared with other big cities, Athens has much higher levels of airborne particles, especially of the finer fractions PM"1"0 and PM"2"."5, correlated with traffic-related air pollution.

Aerosol samples of PM"1"0 were collected during summer and winter 2003 at two different sites in the Messogia Basin northeast of Athens, to demonstrate the variations of heavy metals in PM"1"0 and examine their relationship with both gaseous pollutants and meteorological parameters. Estimated heavy metals during the experimental campaign were mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni) and arsenic (As). The average heavy metal concentrations for the first site (Spata) constituted 0.66-14.7ng/m^3 for the summer period and 0.14-19.5ng/m^3 for the winter period. At the second site (Koropi), the corresponding values varied between 0.89 and 13.3ng/m^3 and 0.16 and 24.7ng/m^3, respectively. PM"1"0 Hg, PM"1"0 Cd and PM"1"0 Ni contents showed regular daily variations, with higher mass percentages during the summer, indicating differences in local PM"1"0 sources for each season. On the contrary, PM"1"0 Pb presented higher mass percentages during the winter. Examination of the relationship between heavy metals and meteorological parameters indicated a higher correlation with temperature and relative humidity, especially for Pb. In addition, most of the heavy metals (apart from Hg) presented an expected correlation with nitrate oxides (NO"x), PM"1"0 and ozone (O"3). Higher correlations with both meteorological parameters and gaseous pollutants were observed during the winter experimental campaign. Maximum heavy metal concentrations at both sites were observed during days with NE or NNE prevailing winds during the summer campaign, while the winter period was characterized with maximums during days with W or WNW prevailing winds.
