Must Have.......2007-09-14
used as a textbook, but even if not would make an excellent companion to any elec mech class.
MEEB Bow Down.......2005-09-14
If you want to know more than most Architects and Engineers about how to design the guts of buildings this is the book to use. It's a fat guy though! Sometimes the text seems to weigh you down. Most architectural students consider it a sloug! But, once they graduate, they use it throughout their careers as design professionals. If you want to know how to develop a regional climatic response strategy for your building or development, calculate passive ventillation rates or heat gains and losses on unique configurations of wood, siding and insulation; size gutters or a rain water catchment system or plan for an elevator, this is the book for you.
review of Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Buildings, 9th Edition by Ben Stein.......2005-08-29
This is the best reference for Architects and students studying mech. & elec. equipment
Best One-Volume Resource For Engineers.......2005-02-05
If you are an engineer engaged in the design of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial and institutional buildings, you may find this your most valuable reference for an overview of theory and best practices for the entire gamut of building systems.
I did find a bit too much enthusiasm for environmentally friendly and energy-conserving new ideas. Many of these technologies are worth following but have economic results that will not serve your clients well.
I am a professional engineer (leading my own firm) with 40 years of experience and have a huge library including the eighth and ninth editions of this book; it's one of my favorites.
It's must reading for a new engineer because you will be able to understand the basics of areas that are new to you with an hour or two of study.
An author's view:.......2002-01-26
My part of this book (mechanical and plumbing) is designed to first show how to minimize the need for mechanical equipment by designing with the climate and site firmly in mind. First configure a building to optimize daylighting, solar heating, and various climate-appropriate passive cooling methods. Also, to store rainwater when appropriate. Then, proceed to choose and size the back-up equipment. In this way, designers conserve non-renewable energy, utilize natural (on-site) energy sources, and also help building occupants stay in touch with the outdoors. I believe that we'll tend to care more about a clean outdoor environment if we are kept aware of its condition.
For a summary of this approach, read Chapter One. I hope you enjoy this book, even when it is your textbook! That was my object. Suggestions? I'm at jreyn@darkwing.uoregon.edu

Awesome resource.......2007-09-13
This book is very practical, and I go back to it again and again. I'm fairly new to art journaling, and this book is great because there are a LOT of examples and easy-to-understand instructions for each one. I expect to be using this book as one of my main resources for a long time. It's a book I can grow into.
:).......2007-05-30
this book is so good. I've been journaling for 5 years now and this is a great idea book. Happy to add this to my colection.
my creative process.......2007-05-06
I make journals and I do collage artwork, but I have never put the two together. Lynne's book was the bridge between these two for me.
Beautiful pictures.......2007-03-10
I purchased this book as an "instruction" book; but there is not a lot of instructions in it. The pictures are beautiful though and if you have the creativity to make things from a picture, this book is fine.
A good learning book.......2007-01-12
I enjoy this book and find it encouraging to work in similar ways in my journal. I have showed it to many of my artist friends and they agree with me. I have been an artist in collage for 35 years and always enjoy others views on collage and color and this book fills the bill. Barbara R.
Book Description
Elizabeth Taylor: The Queen and I is a remarkable collection of Gianni Bozzacchi’s photographs of Elizabeth Taylor, most of them previously unpublished, capturing her as a film star, a woman, and a personal friend.
It was 1965 when Bozzacchi, an impetuous twenty-two-year-old, was given the chance of a lifetime. The streetwise kid from Rome was sent to Africa as special photographer on the set of The Comedians, a movie starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Alec Guinness, and Peter Ustinov. As the film wrapped, Taylor offered Bozzacchi a job as her personal photographer.
Elizabeth Taylor was the world’s most famous woman at the time and undoubtedly its most glamorous. Her marriage to Richard Burton claimed international attention, and together they were the quintessential jet-set couple. Bozzacchi was to work with Taylor and Burton for the next eleven years. They opened the door to their world for him , and his own talent, drive, and artistic style earned him extraordinary success. Publications wanted his services, as did the movie and fashion industries, celebrities, political figures, and the merely famous. Bozzacchi was awarded the honor of International Photographer of the Year three times and became a celebrity himself, the subject of magazine layouts and television interviews.

Like one reviewer, I too am a bit disappointed..........2007-05-08
But I still like this book. I love some of the shots of Elizabeth. She was, and still is, one of the world's most beautiful women. I like some of the single shots of her and also the ones of her with Richard Burton. I also like the shots of the kids. I don't like the pictures of the photographer; they weren't necessary. Some of the photos ARE average, but some are beautiful. Too bad some of the shots show Taylor's frumpy figure; I would've preferred to see more of her face. I also wish there had been some colored photos in this.
Beautiful!!!.......2007-01-12
I love the cover of the book. The pictures I didn't like were the ones with Elizabeth in the bathtub And the pictures of the Author and his marriage This is a book about Elizabeth not Bozzacchi Overall, though I love this book. Elizabeth Taylor's beauty is dazzling right into her forties!!! That's amazing! This is one of my favorite Elizabeth Taylor books (and I have several).
A decadent treasure from the Taylor-Burton years!.......2006-07-09
Gianni Bozzacchi's "Elizabeth Taylor: The Queen and I" is really is a treasure trove of photos from the Taylor-Burton years! It's one of three books that I consider my Dame Elizabeth "Bible's" - the other two being My Love Affair with Jewelry, and Bob Willoughby's Liz an Intimate Collection. In a way, Bozzacchi's book sort of starts up where Willoughby's ends. I was sort of disappointed when I bought the Bozzacchi book two years ago. It had fewer pages than I had anticipated, and at the time I was never really a fan of the late Burton years. I hadn't really seen any of her films from that period. But I found myself grabbing for that book first on my shelf, and I really adore it. I have also discovered the films from that time, like X Y and Zee, Secret Ceremony, Ash Wednesday, etc. and I love them! It was a completely different kind of glamour from the 1950s, but the clothes were stunning. And of course all that Taylor-Burton excess of diamonds, furs, and yachts were at their peak. It's a time that will never be repeated, for better or worse. I reccommend this book to any Dame Elizabeth Taylor fan!
Could be better.......2005-10-07
Being that the author knew Elizabeth Taylor so well, the photos could have been on a more upscale tone. Some very mediocre photos when we all have seen gorgeous photos of a gorgeous lady. Somewhat disappointed.
Queen Elizabeth Taylor Radiates .......2004-10-29
I just recieved my copy of Elizabeth Taylor: The Queen and I" I think the book is completely engaing from cover to cover. Gianni's personal memories to the time when the pictures were taken, makes you feel as if your just that bit closer to Elizaebeth. Elizabeth is trully displayed as a human being, human or star, this woman radiates confidence, luxury, and beauty. My favorite picture in the book would have to be the one where she is running in the Dorchester Hotel, skirt all the way up, hair racing towards every directions, very free and bohemian feeling. I love this woman, not because she was for a large time Hollywood's calling card, or the worlds most beautiful woman. But because there is a purity in her eyes, and her soul can literally touch you through simple pictures. Anyone in doubt whether to get it or not, take my word, the book is worth any price, youll have alot of fun looking through it.

Entertaining, But Too Short.......2005-02-08
With Superman's name first in the title and this being a DC Elseworlds book, one expects the main focus to be on Superman, and it is.
Just when the current Lord Greystoke and his pregnant wife are to be marooned by mutineers, fire streaks across the sky after Lady Greystoke calls on God. Seen as an omen, they are not marooned. Instead, the streak turns out to be the craft of infant Kal-El who is then raised by the giant apes.
Time goes by and Argo-Zan (Kal-El) learns he is from Krypton but always assumes all humans are Kryptonian. John Clayton mopes around England feeling as if he is out of place and missing something.
Clayton funds an expedition looking for signs of Romans in East Africa. Along on the expedition are American reporter Lois Lane and her assistant Jane Porter.
Well, the two groups do come together rather quickly as well as some other Burroughs favorites. Clayton proves himself to be the man of action his father always wanted and Lois finds a man who likes his steaks rare.
Not a bad blending of the two heroes (similar to Superman Batman Speeding Bullets) but Burroughs fans will be disappointed. Yes, there are Burroughs elements but not style. There are no cliffhangers or setbacks or unrequited love that made the original serials so popular. Instead, all the characters come together and suddenly everything is solved.
The art style is rather cartoonish. Think of the cook from Disney's Atlantis and you will get an idea of what to expect. I have seen worse art and this does not really detract from the story.
All in all a brief bit of fun but it needed to be filled out better to make the crossover more believable.
eh...........2003-01-04
This book could've been so much better!
The artwork is horrible. The art style made characters way too cartoony and 'zanny' and attempted to be cool and hip. Yuck. i doesn't work for me.
Chuck Dixon keeps a nice brisk pace to the story. The problem i found with story was it centered too much on Superman. John Greystoke did nothing in this story. It's more of a Superman story and I bought it being a Tarzan fan.
I just bought this book yesterday and read it in about 15 minutes. I'm debating whether to keep it or sell it.
The artwork will probably make me get rid of it. sorry....
i dislike writing low-star reviews.......
Otherworldly Jungle Action.......2002-09-12
Late 19th century: Aboard the ship FUWALDA a mutiny takes place that endangers the lives of John Clayton, Lord Greystoke of England, and his wife Lady Alice, who is pregnant. Black Michael, leader of the mutinying crew, is going to spare their lives and put them out on the harsh coast of East Africa, but at the last minute a falling star hurtles through the night-black sky and dissuades the superstitious sailors from such a barbarous act. The ship sails on to Capetown. Deep in the heart of the impenetrable jungle, a band of great apes discovers the tiny rocket ship and its child passenger. Kala, a mother ape who recently lost a child of her own, adopts the baby and names him Argo-Zan, which means Fire-Skin. All through his growing years, Argo-Zan exhibits strange powers that make him the lord of the jungle. He survives the death of his mother beneath the claws of a leopard, and learns of his alien origins from some mysterious place of hairless apes called Krypton. Finding no home among the great apes, Argo-Zan goes in search of his own kind. In England, John Clayton struggles to fit in himself. He doesn't feel like he belongs in the landed gentry and can't quite come to peace with himself-until the day he meets Jason Gridley, an explorer and inventor that is putting together an expedition to find the remains of a lost Roman colony deep within the jungles of East Africa. There, in the lost city of Opar, these two sons of the jungle will meet fate and love.
Chuck Dixon is a prolific comics author. He's scripted the ROBIN, NIGHTWING, and BIRDS OF PREY monthly comics series for years, and had stints on THE PUNISHER, MARVEL KNIGHTS, GREEN ARROW, BATGIRL, SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, AIRBOY, and ALIEN LEGION. At present he is writing the WAY OF THE RAT monthly comic from CrossGen, as well as SCION and CRUX. Carlos Meglia has done work on SPYBOY, STAR WARS, and ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.
Edgar Rice Burroughs was the king of the action adventure story back in his day. TARZAN OF THE APES was published in 1912. Dixon plays homage to Tarzan's roots and world by keeping the timeframe of his graphic novel centered at that time. Dixon also plays fairly with Superman, whose sense of fair play, honesty, and honor come through despite his savage surroundings. At first glance, pairing the Man of Steel with the Lord of the Jungle might not seem natural or yet even possible, Dixon puts the overall story together well. Burroughs himself had a sense of the fantastic, and the stories he wrote about John Carter of Mars, David Innes of Pellucidar and Carson Napier of Venus-all men who journeyed to distant worlds (except for Pellucidar because it's at the core of the hollow earth)-seem well in keeping with Dixon's treatment of this similar theme. The stories of Clayton and Argo-Zan stay within the mythos of both heroes, and they come together in Opar, the home of Princess La, surely the most sultry and seductive woman Burroughs ever brought to the printed page. Dixon also captures the essence of the time period, reflected in Clayton's journeys around the world and his father's desperate wish for him to make something of himself. The artwork by Meglia at first grates a little because it is so stylistic, but gradually (within a few short pages) the striking colors, inks, and depictions become reader-friendly and take on a life of their own. Meglia has a good sense of the cinematic flow, and his hard-lined panels within panels really stand out. His full-page splash of Argo-Zan belting a stampeding elephant has to be seen to be believed.
Although the graphic novel is good, the feel is almost too familiar. The final resolution of the plots comes about rather easily. Rather than mull over the possibilities in their lives, both heroes seem to just know where they need to go and go there. Also, it would have been nice to see them talk to each other about their experiences a little while planning a new attack to rescue their lady loves and overcome Princess La.
SONS OF THE JUNGLE is a good addition for the graphic novel collector that favors quick-paced Chuck Dixon adventures or wants an excellent representation of the stylized art of Carlos Meglia. The tale is adventurous, easy to get into, and reads well.

Book Description
Richard P. McCormick made his mark as an innovative student of American party politics, as well as the most influential interpreter of New Jersey history. A distinguished teacher, scholar, and public historian, McCormick revitalized a venerable but dormant state historical society. Later, he used notable anniversaries, such as the Bicentennial of the American Revolution and the Tercentenary of New Jersey's founding, as vehicles to bring history to schools and the general public. He also helped create a state historical agency, the New Jersey Historical Commission, to promote New Jersey's past and preserve its historic treasures. Birkner describes McCormick's life and times. He looks at McCormick's scholarly apprenticeship, the origins of his interest in a new political history, and his contributions to the study of American politics before the Civil War. McCormick's concern for elucidating political machinery was fused with a fundamental skepticism about American democracy as run by and for the people. Through use of oral history, McCormick tells his own story. Then, through their exchanges, Birkner challenges some of McCormick's scholarly arguments and elicits responses that help to shed light on his subject's theory of politics.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Read!.......2007-03-20
This book is not an autobiography but a great look back on the experiences of the late great George Best among others. It was a captivating hilarious read which makes me wish I could have seen him in one of his after hours shows. The book is a show in itself and shows a side of what football (Soccer in N. America) was and still should be really all about...the good times. Sadly George did this to excess and eventually paid the price but then what a life. The stories are not all about George Best but collections of various football lore. Well worth the purchase price.
Brilliant.......2007-01-12
Captivating reading from cover to cover brought back memories of the golden age of football in the 60's and 70's. Great look at the life of one of the greatest players the game has ever seen. Fantastic insights into Bestie's life and the life of a professional footballer of the times. Also sheds some interesting and entertaining tidbits on some of the other football stars of the day.
