2 out of 5 stars Not for casual beginners.......2006-11-28

The book was not detailed enough, but it had some very insightful tips. All the pictures were hand drawn. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. If you are causal beginner, you might try something SIMILAR to a Warhammer Terrain how-to book (table top games would be too specific). Something like that would have more step by step photographs and detailed instructions for making models.

4 out of 5 stars Model Making: A Basic Guide.......2006-03-05

Very basic. Lots of different techniques, none covered in depth. For the very beginner.

4 out of 5 stars Inspirational More Than How To.......2005-07-29

This is an elegant little book of line illustrations dealing with the art of architectural model building. It is not really a "how to" book. This book is ideal for people who already posses plenty of artistic talent. They will see basic concepts and be able to go from there.

If like me, you want to make models to help out with your kid's school projects, this book is not for you. For anybody looking for a step by step guide to making models, I would recommend a book by Games Workshop called, "How to Make Wargames Terrain", a beautifully illustrated guide book aimed towards teenagers

5 out of 5 stars Easy Reading.......2005-05-01

I am an Architecture student and used this book as a guide for tips & tricks of model making. It's a great tool, easy reading, straight forward. Highly recommended if you are a beginning model maker.

5 out of 5 stars A good guide for my course.......2001-04-25

A have open an elective course as "Model Making"in EMU at the Faculty of Architecture. This book helps me very much while I was preparing my program and guides me about the course content and outline.I can say that it is a perfect book for both architecture and interior architecture or for any design field.

5 out of 5 stars This is a Manuscript Manufacture.......2007-03-15

i have recently found out about Manuscript Products for calligraphy. They are far more superior then anything you can find in the States. they are made in england and the nibs are of the highest quality while being priced very economically. I was very happy to see they were the manufacture behind readers digest, so i knew before even looking at the book i had a superior product.

And it is superior, anyone who likes calligraphy will love this. it is NOT a truly basic, but anyone who is not familiar will have no problems working on the kit. It is a whole calligraphy set. not just making Prettily letters with a flat nib.

5 out of 5 stars Complete Calligraphy Set.......2007-01-10

This is a great all-inclusive product. I gave it to my daughter-in-law for Christmas and she was really thrilled. The set came with everything she needed to learn techniques and actually use to create her own beautiful work. The packaging was well-organized and kept all parts easy to see and use as well as great for storage of all its parts. I am delighted with the price, too, especially with so much included in the set. Great buy and successful gift!

5 out of 5 stars Complete Set for a Beginner.......2006-01-13

I am not a total novice to calligraphy, but it has been many years since I practiced this art. The book contains all of the essential information a beginner needs to know, and some of the basic tools: pen holders, nibs, a brush, pencil and various colored inks. There is a spiral bound Technique Book, and a spiral bound Project Book. I may have missed this in the directions, but most calligraphers I've met find a tiny cosmetics jar with a tight fitting lid. After this has been washed very well cut out a piece of soft foam and place it in the jar, add the ink you'll be using and dip your pen in this jar for getting just the right amount of ink on y,ou pen. You practically eliminate the possibility of getting ink over your project or table. HTH!

    Book Description

Nowadays nearly everyone is a member of a gym, and perfecting the body beautiful is taken to the point of obsession. This phenomenon can be traced back to one man: Anthony Sansone (1905-1987), the first male physique icon and the most admired bodybuilder of his time. Like his contemporary Rudolph Valentino, Sansone was one of the first to make male beauty a desirable commodity.

Images of Sansone's body spurred the physical culture movement that would sweep the country. Through innumerable reproductions of his photographs, his fitness program publications, and the three gyms he founded, Sansone set and shaped the physical ideal that a whole generation of men would follow. A charismatic figure, Sansone moved within a number of worlds and interacted with some illustrious characters: art (Gertrude Whitney), bodybuilding (Charles Atlas), dance (Alexandre Gavrilov), Hollywood (Johnny Weissmuller), theater (David Belasco), and photography (Nickolas Muray). American Adonis uncovers the lost story of Sansone's life along with stunning reproductions of his sculpted, godlike body, many of which have not been seen in more than fifty years.

5 out of 5 stars Enthralled by the classical beauty of one.......2006-12-14

Rarely do I write reviews but I felt compelled to with this book. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in celebrating the beauty of the nude male physique. I discovered pictures of Tony Sansone a few years back on website of vintage muscle men and was immediately taken by his classical beauty--he stood out among the many other images. Needless to say, I was thrilled to discover this book and it did not disappoint. Tony has the one of the most perfectly symmetrical bodies that I have ever seen, and it is showcased beautifully throughout the book with a plethora of tasteful and classical nude poses that are pleasure to look upon. Tony appears so comfortable with himself and the camera that it makes the images all the more appealing.
As the pictures are from the early part of the 20th century, I also thoroughly enjoyed the way in which the photographer captured Tony. And though the images are not paritcular homoerotic, I did not find this to be a negative, actually I found it a refreshing respite from the Abercrombie style homoeroticism that most books in the genre love to portray. In the end, all I can say is you are sure to enjoy this book if you appreciate classic Roman/Greco beauty.

    5 out of 5 stars Refreshing!.......2004-11-10

Next to the photographs of Sansone shown here, much of today's male photography seems crude or overly "artful" [that is, with the setting as important as - and sometimes more important than - the figure itself]. Whoever Tony Sansone was when not posing - the total person, I mean, in all his complexity - the images he left us and given us here have, for me, a very moving un-selfconsciousness. There seems to be no effort whatsoever made to be alluring, provocative, "sexy", or particularly erotic. He stands there quite openly, ingenuously, a man gifted with great beauty of face and form and innate grace of movement as well, his sense of line surpassing that of many classically trained dancers. He presents us his beauty and grace as a gift to be enjoyed. It is done with great simplicity and - I have to say, at least for me - with what seems to be genuine innocence. And it is this sense of innocence that I find so very moving - even as much as his beauty is moving. There are many books full of images of beautiful men. I have found none that have Sansone's touching simplicity and, I am tempted to say, purity. This is indeed a rare book - in this or in any genre!

5 out of 5 stars Navigating between the lines with Tony Sansone.......2004-09-19

John Massey in a herculean work of original research has rescued both a significant figure in the history of the emergence of public gay culture in America in the early 20th century, Tony Sansone, and his photographer, Edwin Townsend, both of whom were on the verge of being completely forgotten. This book is a notable contribution to the history of gay culture and art and deserves to be in any comprehensive collection of such materials. It is beautifully produced by Universal, an affiliate of Rizzoli, and was printed in Italy. The book will be at home on the most sophisticated gay and gay friendly coffee tables, not that the book is overtly gay, even with all the beautiful full frontal nudes of one of the most idolized body builders in the history of the sport.

Tony Sansone is important because he circulated in fascinating intersecting circles which existed in the early 20th century in New York and Hollywood. Born the son of poor Italian immigrants in Brooklyn, by sheer grit Tony rose to become a protege of the powerful publisher Bernarr Macfadden, one of the wealthiest men in America and even once a candidate for president.
Through Macfadden and his famous bodybuilding exhibitions at Madison Square Garden he met Charles Atlas, who became a friend and fan. By his late teens Tony was stepping into the worlds of art, theater, bodybuilding, and moviedom.

None other than Gertrude Whitney facilitated his career and used him as a model as did other lesser scuptors of the period. Sculptures from these associations are still held in the Whitney Museum of American Art's collections. David Belasco, the flamboyant theater producer who was one of the most significant figures in the golden age of Broadway in the 1920s and 1930s, picked up Tony to play the semi-nude role of a demon in an opulent and phantasmogoric production of Mimi, more or less a staging of Dante's Hell as a paradigm for modern industrialization. Edwin Townsend, a fashion photographer who also did portraits of many leading artists of the period, discovered Tony in this production and asked him to model.

A series of booklets of nudes of Tony were published from this association which quickly become collectors items among the underground cognoscenti. Due to the laws of the times, these portraits were meticulously airbrushed. But photographs of Tony in all his glory were also produced and squirreled away unknown and unseen by generations of admirers and collectors of male erotica. It is these photographs which John Massey has uncovered. These works were an artistic collaboration between the photographer and model. Their serious intent still reverberates in the 21st century.

Tony also was picked up for a Hollywood role where he was associated with many stars who are still household names, but the movies were not his thing. He returned to New York, opened as series of gyms, and did his modeling and publishing. He was a lifelong habitue of the famous Washington Baths in Coney Island, New York another of whose other patrons was Paul Cadmus and a circle of New York artists and theater people.

He and his wife Rita, also a child of Italian immigrants and physical fitness aficionado, worked with poor children on physical fitness in their declining years. He died in his 80s shortly after Rita did.

American Adois is a glimpse into a glamorous, erotic, monied, and fascinating world which touched on many facets of culture which only something as sexually charged as bodybuilding can do. That world still exists and in the career of Tony Sansone we see the paradigm worked out. John Massey has done a masterful job of piecing together this complex but highly intriguing story from rare and previously unknown materials. What stories he certainly he must have yet to tell us which he could not include in this book.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful and remarkable book..........2004-09-19

John Massey has created a genuine monument, a beautiful and remarkable book about a beautiful and remarkable man. It seems strange to apply "beautiful" to a man, but in the case of Tony Sansone it's the perfect word. The astounding collection of photos included in this sumptuously designed volume reveal all aspects of Sansone's near-perfect anatomy. They are rare nude poses showing not only the well-muscled landscape of Sansone's body, but the details of his classically handsome face and, who could fail to notice, his well-proportioned genitals. Many of the photos, especially those by the famous Edwin Townsend of New York, are true works of art, reproduced with painstaking fidelity in this book. Massey's biographical treatment reflects extensive research and diligent attention to detail. His clear, concise style presents a straightforward and uncomplicated view of Sansone. As the author implies, there was a complicated personality hidden behind the bold nudeness of this American Adonis. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates the true sculptural beauty of the human body and the story of a pioneer of modern physical culture.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent horror manga.......2003-08-25

Since my cover's different, I'm going by the title. I believe this is the 3rd volume(Dark Horse is finally putting a convenient volume # on the spine, thank you, starting around volume 6 & the re-prints)--Yakumo is already Pai's undying Wu(zombie) & tends to get dismembered regularly(this time it's just a hand), & monsters are usually ripped to pieces, plus a fair share of nudity, so this one isn't for timid souls. This series started in 1983 with over 35 collected volumes & counting.
In this one Pai & Yakumo have traveled to Hong Kong in pursuit of the Figure of Man statue, but the trail leads to kidnapped spiritualist Steve Lung & a hotel room full of kidnapped naked ladies. Benares, Kaiyan Wang's Wu, needs the statue to revive his master, enlisting the service of a lesser demon.
The storytelling is excellent--the overall story is advanced, not distracted by the various adventures in each book, & Yakumo is an interesting hero, having to deal with becoming something not human serving something not human, but he becomes a more than dutiful servant. It's easy to see why it's lasted so long.

      Book Description

Mr. Bear's expensive clock fascinates Edith. She just has to touch it. But when she does, it falls down with a crash. Unable to admit that she has broken it, Edith's guilty conscience makes her so unhappy that she can't even enjoy her birthday party. In fact, Edith feels so badly about lying to Mr. Bear that she contemplates running away. What happens next makes for a timeless story that will resonate with anyone who has ever tried to cover up the truth. Dare Wright's innovative black-and-white photographs make EDITH AND MR. BEAR as intriguing as it was when first published in 1964.

2 out of 5 stars Run away story left feelings of abandonment and loneliness.......2007-04-24

I have not read this book since I was a kid. I remember Edith ran away and her father didn't go out on the streets looking for her...I was devastated as a kid, but read it over and over....I thought, 'Edith lives with a family that leaves it to the police to do the work'...'they don't love her'.

I was whipped, so I didn't think the spanking was odd as a child. What I did did think was Mr. Bear didn't care and he didn't want to understand anything or accept mistakes. I hated him, as I did my father, at the time. I hated being beaten and this book made me feel like there were other kids in my situation. The photos were haunting...and filled my imagination. I still remember them today....the story line? I remember the feeling of abandonment and loneliness. I would not give the book to my kids. I think it nurtured depression....and I could have been reading something that would be more inspiring and attempt to teach the same "tell the truth" lesson the other readers found.

I do love the series for the photos. You just have to pick and choose. I have written other reviews and can recommend other stories.

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story.......2007-01-07

I agree wholeheartedly with A. Miller. Edith and Mr. Bear was one of my favorite books as a child. I loved it so much that a few years ago I searched for it and bought it. (Thank you Amazon!) As an adult I believe it's a very real depiction of a normal family life helping children realize that a parents love is unconditional and telling the truth makes for a happier life for all.

3 out of 5 stars The beginning of the kinder, gentler Lonely Doll.......2006-03-13

Dare Wright, Edith and Mr. Bear (Random House, 1964)

Depending on how you want to look at it, Edith and Mr. Bear is either the height of the creep-out phase of the Lonely Doll series or its turning point into a kinder, gentler type of book. In this episode, Edith is fascinated by a clock Mr. Bear has up on the mantel. Curiosity, of course, leads to a broken clock, and Edith trying to figure out what to do with herself before Mr. Bear realizes that she's the one who broke it.

The release of The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll has sparked what is rapidly becoming a firestorm of debate on whether the Lonely Doll books, especially the early ones, are disturbing or not. I think a lot of those on the "not" side are making the assumption that those of us on the "are" side are all saying that the books are disturbing because punishment happens. Not at all; it's the way the punishment is depicted. It's not that Mr. Bear spanks Edith; it's that, if you substitute live-action characters in the same clothes and poses, you'd be looking at softcore porn, not a kids' book. (And we won't even both to touch on the whole "furry" thing.) I'm not altogether sure of the appropriateness of discussing it in reviews for this particular book-- in which, when it comes right down to it, Edith metes out her own punishment (which is why I see it as a turning point)-- but the discussion rages about this one, too. (It's also the doll itself-- do you folks really not find the doll's facial expression disturbing in and of itself?)

One way or the other, whether you find the books disturbing or not, they're both an interesting cultural document and important evidence of Dare Wright's mental state during the sixties, and as such, should be read. ***

4 out of 5 stars Realistic? Yes Disturbing? No.......2005-10-03

While the sad childhood of the author has recently been documented, I could not disagree more with some of the reviews submitted for these books. The inappropriate actions of the younger characters, Little Bear and Edith, are representative of the impulsive, sometimes "naughty" things that children do. In each case, the children feel remorse about their bad behavior, are disciplined (yes, sometimes spanked -- HORRORS!) but then the story ends with the parental figure (Mr. Bear) understanding and forgiving the children for their actions. Just the fact that so many people remember the photographs and characters so vividly (some 35+ years later), is a testament to the universal appeal of these stories. Perhaps the flaky parents of today could learn a few things from Mr. Bear. Children are children and they need to be called on their bad behavior, understand why it is wrong, and then quickly forgiven.

      4 out of 5 stars I've never forgotten Edith!.......2005-04-03

My sister heard a feature on public radio with the author of the new biography of Dare Wright. She called me immediately asking if I remembered Edith, Mr. Bear, and Little Bear. Of course, I remembered! As a child I loved these books and discovered them at the public library. Among my two sisters and I, the books were checked out repeatedly. The photographs and stories are poignant and touch me even today.

In Unwrapping Mr. Wright, when PR Rep Lauren Brown decides to take matters into her own hands to make hunky next-door neighbor -- and long-time crush -- Jeff Wright see her as more than just his best friend she learns that you don't always get exactly what you set out for. The last thing she wanted to do was attract the attention of his twin brother, Justin, but one tight red sweater and complete makeover later that's exactly what she gets.

Lauren and Justin have never gotten along. He questions every penny of the family business money she spends to improve the software company's public image. He has a reputation for dating women with more peroxide than brains. He just plain rubs her the wrong way. Besides, she has her mind set on Jeff, and she is willing to go through some extreme changes to get his mind on her.

Sporting fresh highlights and sexy black lingerie, Lauren lets herself into Jeff's apartment for their regular Monday night football date determined to play a different game altogether. Unfortunately for her, it's not until she's straddling the sleeping Mr. Wright on the couch and in full lip-lock that she realizes he's the wrong one.

Justin, who was crashing at Jeff's while his floors were being refinished, wakes to the most passionate kiss he's ever experienced. And is nearly as shocked as Lauren to find out who this dream woman is.

The action kicks up as Jeff turns matchmaker, the flu knocks Lauren down for the count and sends her convalescing at Justin's door, and jealousies flare at the company Christmas party. Pick up this charming holiday tale to find out if they both finally realize she had the wrong Mr. Wright all along?

        Book Description

Working with Mr Wright. is a personal recollection by one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s former apprentices of his years at the Taliesin Fellowship. Curtis Besinger provides a lively account of daily life in this community of architects established by Wright in Wisconsin and Arizona. An apprenticeship with the Fellowship entailed architectural tasks, such as drafting, designing, and overseeing projects, including the actual building of Taliesin West; as well as humbler assignments - from milking the cows to harvesting wheat - related to maintaining the farm that surrounds the Fellowship in Wisconsin. The social life of the Fellowship, filled with music and film, and planned in detail by Wright himself, is also recounted with wit and humor. Through these engaging recollections, illustrated with photographs, plans, and drawings made during Besinger’s years at the Fellowship, Wright’s eccentric personality, his working practices, and his unique creative vision emerge, along with a host of personalities who contributed to the unique Taliesin experience.

        5 out of 5 stars A True Story.......2000-12-07

Why didn't I read this book when it first came out? It is a very well written book from a true "insider" at Taliesin. Besinger does what he says and tells it like it was, from his personal experience. It gives a wonderful look inside the forbidden city, one that is often enhanced and usually turns out to be a lauditory biography of Mr. Wright. Here is a real narrative in the best sense of the word. Besinger does not interpret he just tells what he knows and also does not speculate on what he does not see. It is the best insight to date on the evolving process that went on in Taliesin. Besinger worked on most of the important projects and gives us the process as well as the result. I am very glad he took the time to write so well and include the detail that carries it through. One only wishes for more.

          "What?"

"For the love of God, not yet ANOTHER thirty year old virgin placed in an untenable, thoroughly unbelievable setting!"

"What are you talking about? The character's actually supposed to be some thirty year old---good god!---VIRGIN? What? Did this take place in a convent?"

"No, not a convent, in some place called Paradise-something-or-other in Florida. And what a dreary town it was! All those harping neighbors talking in circles---what, am I supposed to think that's CHARMING? They could inspire a reader to self mutilation with all their useless, page-filling arguments! CUT OUT MY EYES! I CAN'T TAKE ANOTHER WORD!"

          "Egad. Sounds banal."

"Banal? BANAL? It's not just banal, my friend, it's downright a waste of money and time. Women of this day and age are RARELY virgins, nor are they irrational, whining idiots who think men who constantly condescend to them are somehow DESIREABLE. As IF."

"Ugh. Sorry it was such a horrible experience."

She sighs, looks him over with an arched brow. "Ah well, it's all right. I won't buy her books again. But you can come here and show me what real romance is all about."

1 out of 5 stars It WAS a frustrating book, on the whole..........2002-06-07

...for multiple reasons, most of which other reviewers have touched upon. One thing that bothered me was why on earth, once they'd figured out what was going on, they didn't just go on home. I sure would have!

My primary problem - which, however, may be something that only bothers me - is I'm just not comfortable with a stepbrother and stepsister getting involved romantically.

1 out of 5 stars AMEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWERS.......2001-06-20

          1 out of 5 stars I wasted a Saturday for this??.......2000-12-21

I'm not a big fan of Sue Civil-Brown's books to begin with; her characters are always way too 'flaky' for me. I had hoped that I'd enjoy Tempting Mr. Wright. I didn't, but not because of any 'flakiness,' although that was certainly there, just not as prevalent as in her previous books. TMW had *way* too much petty bickering between Tess and Jack, especially after they came to realize the extent of their feelings towards each other. Where was the romance?? Where was the emotional dialog? The whole story just dragged along; I believe Tess and Jack didn't even kiss until halfway through the book.

If you're looking to read a good romantic comedy, check out Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, or the more recent books by Susan Andersen; don't be 'Tempted' to spend your money on 'Mr. Wrong.'

          He Offered Restitution

Diana Somerville never imagined that her first Season would end so disastrously or ruin her reputation so completely. And while her family is appalled that the rakehell who compromised her, Mr. George Wright, refuses to come up to scratch at the altar, Diana is relieved. She wants nothing to do with the Wrights, certainly nothing that will end in matrimony; which is exactly what she tells Stephen Wright, Viscount of Endicott, George's older half-brother, when he proposes to do the honorable thing and marry her himself!

          But She Wanted His Love

Stephen is accustomed to paying for George's sins, though not precisely in such hard-struck or permanent coin. Still, Diana's refusal is a shocking turn of events. With the help of her family, he convinces the headstrong miss to agree to a sham engagement, promising that she can cry off after a suitable length of time. Yet the more time he spends in the lovely Diana's company, the more certain he is that he truly wants her hand in marriage; as well as her spirited heart.

          Customer Reviews:

          3 out of 5 stars I liked it; I liked it not.......2005-03-20

Interesting storyline but the contact and conversation between the two brothers was more interesting than the romance.

Stephen, Lord Endicott is faced with righting another of his brother's scandals. George Wright (Stephen's half-brother) has ruined an innocent lady, Diana Somerville all on a dare. We find out later the attempted rape is not completed, but I felt that was glossed over. Stephen feels compelled to ask for Diana's hand since George has fled the country. Diana is an interesting character - not really concerned over her lost reputation but living in a fantasy world where she will set out to become a world traveler and adventuress when she reaches her majority.

Diana's family and Lord Endicott come up with a scheme to have a sham engagement. It will restore Diana's reputation (how?)and will be over at the end of the season. Of course in true Regency style both fall in love and begin to wish the betrothal is a reality.

The problem with the story is that I felt no real affection between Stephen and Diana. Oh some of the correct words are spoken but nothing that made my heart swell. Another problem is that Diana meets George (the bad brother) later and experiences none of the outrage or fear I think a normal woman would feel towards the man who attempted to rape her. Also there is no resolution to the trouble created by Stephen's stepmother and half-brother. Diana never really finds out what Stephen's real feelings about them are.

A nice note is that Stephen (though browbeaten to do it) takes Diana on a few adventures, teaching her to drive a rig, talking about taking her on a boat, bringing her to lectures about the Amazon and ascending with her in a hot air balloon. All of these "adventures" lead her to decide risking life and limb was not all that enjoyable after all.

An ok read but other "brother stand-in" Regencies (which is a rather common theme) have been handled better.

3 out of 5 stars heroine's behavior halfway through the novel made no sense.......2002-03-08

As a rule, I usually like Regency novels by Patricia Bray because of the care she takes to develop the both the primary and secondary characters in her novels, the budding romance/relationship between the hero and the heroine, and because she almost never reverts to 21st century language colloquialisms. True, her plots are usually a rather straightforward read, with very few twists in plot-lines. However, her books are also so well written, that this small lack is seldom really felt by the reader. "The Wrong Mr. Wright" falls into the usual mold of a Patricia Bray Regency romance; and it is a well written, engrossing (when it deals with the relationship between Diana and Stephen) and enjoyable read. However, I was surprised to find that Bray had Diana behaving in a manner, in the latter half of the book anyway, that was not at all consistent with her character!

Stephen Wright, Viscount of Endicott, is beginning to enjoy the peace and quiet of life without his troublesome younger half-brother, George, when he receives some rather unwelcome news. It seems that just before George left England, he had found time to seriously compromise a young lady, who has since left London in disgrace. Stephen is appalled. He has spent much of his adulthood pulling George out of scrapes and paying his bills and debts. But this latest stunt beats all. Being an honourable man, Stephen immediately makes for the young lady's home in Kent in order to offer her his hand in marriage. He is quite surprised then when Diana Somerville (the young lady in question) refuses his offer of marriage. Diana has no desire to be married at this point, and certainly not to the brother of the man who had so seriously compromised her reputation. However, both Stephen and her parents convince her to agree to a sham engagement, if only to restore her reputation (and that of her family's), with the stipulation that Diana be allowed to cry off the engagement after a suitable period of time. And so in no time at all, Diana finds herself back in London, this time as the fiance of the Viscount of Endicott. And while she never expected to find herself engaged to so cautious and reserved a gentleman as Stephen Wright, Diana begins to appreciate his many sterling qualities -- his dependability and his honour in particular. And then George returns to London. Will George's return mean trouble for Stephen and Diana? Stephen cannot help but worry about what George's next move will be even as he faces the fact that he has fallen in love with the spirited Diana and would like very much to make their sham betrothal real.

And all in all, "The Wrong Mr. Wright" was a really enjoyable read -- especially when it the novel was dwelling on the developing relationship between Stephen and Diana. Bray does a really good job of allowing us to see that these two are meant for each other, and bringing their 'real' characters to the fore. The thing I didn't get however, was why after having presented Diana as an extremely intelligent and astute young woman, Patricia Bray would make her heroine suddenly susceptible to George's machinations? It is difficult to be more explicit in my criticism without giving too much of the plot away. However, take my word for it, Diana's decision to listen to George would not at all be keeping with her character, esp given what she had previously suffered at his hands earlier in the book. And this incongruity niggled at me so much that it quite distracted me from totally enjoying the novel. Which was a shame, because incongruity aside, this was an enjoyable read.
