This is not for me. It is pretty good for interesting reading, but not made for freelancers like me.

This book is divided into four sections: organization, personnel, marketing, and operations. It also has four appendices. I really liked this book very much. I'm a volunteer SCORE counselor who regularly counsels SCORE clients on starting their own small businesses. I highly recommend the instant book to people similarly situated to my clients since it will help them better grasp and understand what is involved in starting a business.

If you want to put together a business plan (and you should if you want to start a business), then use this book to help you by looking at the following chapters:

2. Structure and Facilities
4. Organizing
9. Positioning
10. Promoting
12. Pricing Your Services
15. Financial Issues

After you prepare your business plan and have your business up and running, then you'll be able to:

I particularly liked the Case Study #6 in Appendix 2 (Failing to Institutionalize the Company). And Appendix 3 (A Designer's Short Course on Marketing) was very well done. Chapter 10 on "Promoting" was very well done given the amount of pages devoted to it.

I was a bit disappointed with the Sample Business Plan Form included in Appendix 4. But the book is not exactly set up to cater to people trying to write a business plan. So I can't be too critical here.

This book is packed full of content regarding the business of graphic design (and small business, in general). It will be well worth your time in reading it if you have any interest in small business. 5 stars!

Culture A.D. is an advertising and design agency (hence the A. D.) we write our reviews to be quick and straight to the point. The Creative Business Guide to Running a Graphic Design Business has become a vital tool for us. I wish I could say I've read the book cover to cover, but that's just not real. The truth is we use it for precise issues and targeted advice. Mr. Foote makes it plain and draws from real world experience and that's what we need. It's text book, well, non-text book information and well worth having. It's like have a "canned mentor".

Practical Methods for Success.......2004-08-25

Foote gives well-researched advice and organizes it into easy-to-follow sections; perfect for anyone who has only twenty minutes to spare at any time. Model documents, role playing, case studies, questionaires and financial formulas will help you take the action needed to make your busines healthy. I look forward to other editions where corporate law and insurance in other countries is aknowleged. An appendix for Canada would be nice. It is still a must-have book no matter where you live.

Paris Match is the Life magazine of France, but the je ne sais quoi that separates English-language journalism from French never seemed stronger than in Encounters with Great Painters, lavishly illustrated tributes (interviews isn't quite the word) to 10 famous artists, including Georges Braque, Joan Miró, Henri Matisse, Balthus, Francis Bacon, and Salvador Dalí. The 95 photographs dating from the '30s through the '90s are the main reason to buy the book. Here is Matisse at 80, lying in bed as he calmly manipulates a long stick with a piece of charcoal clamped at one end to produce the elegantly simple face of Mary Magdalen, part of a commission for St. Paul de Vence. Here is Picasso, cutting up an owlish photograph of his eyes by David Douglas Duncan and inserting them into a whimsical animal drawing. Here is the apocalyptic mess of Bacon's studio, where layers of plates and trash turn a table to rubble, and even the walls offer evidence of painterly struggle.

The tributes, however, are big on the sort of existential quotes that once seemed appropriate for the Artist to utter. ("I've never wanted anything in life and I've never made any decisions," says Braque. "Everything came together on its own.") In keeping with the pervasive tone of high-flown vagueness, the two Balthus essays never even mention the artist's much-debated imagery of young girls dreamily flaunting their sexuality. The amorphous quality of the book extends to its curious treatment of photo captions. It took this reader quite a while to figure out that the scattered remarks on the first page devoted to each artist actually match up (more or less) with the photos that follow. --Cathy Curtis

This book has some heartbreakingly beautiful photos and I love the title, but watch out, especially if you're buying a gift for a sensitive dog lover. There is a page where a yard-dog, the kind who lives his life chained outside, is wondering why he's always chained up. It is too painful for a lot of people to see this.

Many of you have recently seen the re-run episode of Charlie Brown's testimonial dinner. It sounds like his dream come true, especially since Charlie Brown's hero, Joe Shlabotnik is scheduled to be there. Thanks in part to Marcy's tactlessness, the evening doesn't exactly go as Charlie Brown had hoped.

Speaking of reruns, new character Rerun Van Pelt (Lucy and Linus' baby brother) makes his debut. Lucy unintentionally comes up with the name and Linus thinks it's a great idea!

This book has IMHO one of the most brilliant Peanuts episodes the late Charles Schultz ever wrote. Charlie Brown puts a brown bag on his head to cover a rash and goes to the summer camp with his head and face covered. Guess what! Baptized as Mr Sack by the other kids, he becomes camp president and a hero. A mask is enough to turn a loser into a hero, Schultz seems to say in this story, but also, that people will believe anything they need to believe. If everybody says Mr. Sack is the best camp president ever, they will accept that. And then Charlie Brown takes off the bag...

An easy to read and interesting account of Gretzky's career. He is truly a hero and this book really tries to capture his spirit. This book is appropriate for hockey lovers of all ages - I bought it for my 11 year old son and found myself enjoying it immensely. The photos are fantastic and there are many of them. This book is great for any hockey player or coach and ours is kept on our coffee table.

I admire everything about Wayne Gretzky and everything he has done. But i also think Andrew did a poor job reflecting how much wayne gretzky has really accomplished. He is not just a great player , he is a great person. The book lacked certain detail and as the other reviewer said. It probably is only meant for a 3rd grade level =)

I bought this book for my 3rd grade son to write a paper with, and found myself completly engaged in it. For someone who didn't know much about "The Great One", I am now as big a fan as my son! Tells a lot about his younger years and doesn't just focus on the goals. AWESOME

I'm writing about the book I read in Social Studies. This book was farly good. This book talked about Wayne's life. It said that when he was a little kid he moved to Toronto to get away from all the paretens who's kids were mad that he was always scoring. At a young age Wayne played hockey with his grandmother. Wayne was also great as a young boy. Wayne was 18 years old when he started to play hockey in the NHL. Wayne has 40 Reular season records. Wayne played for 4 different teams. Wayne Gretzky is the greats or one of the greats. I think that if you like sports you should read this book.

As a fan, you don't need this book. The pictures lack quality, the stories don't feature any news. If you buy one of the authentic biographies or the official DVD you'll enjoy it a lot more.
