Exactly What I Was Hoping For.......2005-10-20
I purchased this book to give me ideas on which type of pattern/material I should use to reupholster a Victorian settee frame I recently bought. After looking through the breathtaking photos on these glossy pages, I know exactly which material to go with. And of course, from viewing this book I have a desire to purchase other victorian pieces to accompany the settee. It's a step back in time that must be seen.
This is a wonderful book. Also, this book was like brand new although it is used. Just wish there were more pages.

Fantastic!.......2007-01-15
My son received this book for Christmas and LOVES it. It's a great book for anyone that loves to draw - it breaks everything down for you and has a step by step illustration for every picture in the book.

How to draw simple.......2007-01-10
This is a great book for the kids who are horse lovers at heart
Good Book.......2005-07-28
My Daughter loves to draw and she loves this book!!! She is 8 and this was perfect would recommend again!!!
Very poor book.......2005-03-11
Since I ordered this for a young budding artist, I was willing to wait awhile until it shipped. What a disappointment - this book is not at all what I expected - I imagine I should have been warned by the price. There is almost no instruction about drawing horses - the pictures are pretty but they will not help in actually learning to draw horses. One star is almost overly generous for a "learning" book.
This is supposed to teach you how to draw?!.......2004-09-07
This book is pathetic. It has almost no instructions, only not-very-realistic horse drawings on each page. If you want a great horse drawing book, check out "Anyone Can Draw Horses." This book uses non-conventional methods, such as sketching the basic skeleton to get the horse's shape correct. It never ONCE tries to make you use circles and other geometric shapes. (I don't know about you, but this never works for me! The drawing just gets disproportionate!) However, if you like the circle method, try "Draw 50 Horses."
A good way to go..........2004-06-18
It's an ok book. The drawings are a bit hard but if you just try, the results are great!

I'm Not From Germany And Yet Still, I Enjoyed This Guidebook.......2005-09-28
I always had trouble drawing Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron, until I found this guidebook sitting on top of a pile at a recent garage sale of a troubled family who had moved away from our neighborhood. The boy and girl who lives there grew up too fast, leaving behind their children's books and simple toys, and becoming crack addicts-or, to use the language of the animated feature SPIRIT, addicts of the crack. Thus their abandoned toys seemed to speak of a childhood pushed away too quickly, like a spoiled child will push away the food on the table he secretly craves, in order to illustrate some point of self-esteem! Sad the way we starve ourselves of the things that matter.
But happily for me, little Benji had not done much coloring in this how-to guidebook. Like I say, I always had trouble sketching in the faces and bodies of the CIMARRON crew-Spirit, Rain, Little Creek, the eagle. Nothing worked, and I couldn't find anyone skilled enough at Dreamworks Animation Technique to help me at my office. The faces of Rain, Spirit, Little Creek and others would haunt my dreams at night, and when the shadows of morning crawled in across the windowpane I would struggle for a pencil, trying to trace their faces on a pad of paper. But the faces I loved grew misshapen, and the eraser at the end of the pencil was in for a beating.
Now along comes a book which shows you exactly how to get the results you desire. From the slightly square, trim face of plucky little Spirit, to the bold human planes of brave Little Creek, the whole range of anatomy is stripped bare. I said to my dog, "You'd be able to make your own tattoo of these guys if you wanted to," for as all animators know, once you know the secrets, a few brisk strokes in the right direction will bring recognizable faces to life, just as though we see them in our hearts. I went through the whole course in a little under ten weeks, turning this into the "Summer of Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron, and Friends."
A very great book!.......2003-08-05
You can't buy the book "How to draw Spirit and Friends" in Germany, but you can order it! I'm come from Germany and I've order this book! I hope, it is a great book. You sad it's great and the booktitle sounds very good!

From the Author.......2005-04-26
I'm pleased to see my book for sale on Amazon.com! It was a wonderful experience to create the paintings and text for this book, and I'm happy to say that it is very easy to follow and gives a good deal of insight into how I create my work. I reviewed the production at every step, and Walter Foster was wonderful on all counts!
I have been teaching for over 20 years, and have instructional videos out on both oil and acrylic painting available, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching. I continue to paint full-time, and I'm working on my next book and more video instructional tapes this year.
When you purchase the book, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about it.
More Than Just Good Art.......2005-04-26
Although this latest in the series Walter Foster books will provide anyone who might be interested in how to paint horses with excellent information and examples, there is really quite a bit more here than just that. The art is superb and the narrative provides unique insight into the whole artistic process. Elin is not only a gifted painter but a very talented writer as well. Anyone not already familiar with Elin's work can easily find more information by simply using Google to look for Elin Pendleton.
Customer Reviews:
Good for Starters.......2005-06-11
This book's cover has [seemingly] nothing to do with what is inside. There are no other colored pencil illustrations.
All steps are in black and white, beginning with an explanitory drawing of the basic shapes a horse has. There are only a few pages on definition/detail of heads, ears, fetlocks, pasterns and hooves. The rest of the book is dedicated to certain breeds. On one page the author has the finished work, showing the rough drawing and cleaned up line art on the other page for each breed. There are the Arabian, Morgan, Clydesdale, Quarter Horse, Shetland Pony, American Saddlebred and others.
As far as instructing someone on how to create a horse on their own, this book is lacking. However, it does help someone with some artistic talent already to see how a horse is drawn and shaded. By trying to copy the drawings in this book, I was able to get an understanding for drawing horses. It really got me interested in drawing horses, and in horses in general.
never looked at it, but listen to me people.......2004-12-08
For those of you who have never really been around a horse, I'd like to point something out. The horses ears are incorrectly placed, and I wouldn't go buying this book and open it to find a bunch of donkey like horses. I'm just warning you, becuse that's probably what you're going to find. And as for the people who HAVE been around horses for awhile, you should know about a horses anatomy and see that this is incorrect. Again, just a warning, I've never tried this book, but I've been around and ridden horses for 3 years, so I'd think I'd know where a horses ears go, and that's not where they go. Another thing; the horses eyes are too small, and the neck is way too short. Also, the horses upper lip looks like a chunk was cut out of it. Their upper lips are not that pronounced. Just warnin' ya...

Book Description
The early 1990s, considered the golden age of hip hop, saw the release of the Beastie Boys' ground-breaking albums Check Your Head and Ill Communication. From 1991 to 1996 photographer Ari Marcopoulos whose work has been compared to that of the controversial Larry Clark witnessed the legendary band firsthand. For five years he had fly-on-the-wall access to Mike D, MCA, and King AD Rock in the arenas and in the recording studio; in the fun and dopey moments in between; and in such diversions as playing hoops at G-son, the famed birthplace of Grand Royal. In these never-before-published photographs as well as in rare video grabs Marcopoulos's masterful yet understated perspective taps into the punk/rock/rap/funk vibe that has made the Beastie Boys the longest-standing, most consistently evolving group in hip hop.

the best beastie boys book ever.......2004-07-12
this is a must have for any beastie boys fan, this book shows all and has amazing photo's of the band and ofcourse it's a photo album of the greatest band of all time. i give this book a ten out of ten
NOT ART - NO GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY.......2002-05-19
This book was not good. Less than a few good shots out 144 pages makes it the biggest waste of paper I've seen in a while.
I would never reccomend this to even the biggest beastie boys fan (and I am one myself.) It's just plain whack photos of the band from their least influential period made me return the book.
An appreciated piece of work depicting true hip hop artists!.......2002-02-05
Oh my goodness.....What a tasteful collection of candid Beastie black and whites in the peak of their "still evolving Bboy career" This book defines what the Beasties are all about: Truth, Friendship, art, creativity, style, attitude, and of course, what goes without saying....Hip Hop. ARi Marcopoulos (the man responsible for these dope-[...] shots) is comin off on the friendship tip, not from some buster Rolling Stone outsider style. These pix are raw, the texture and style are timeless. I can't wait for the day I pull this book out 20 years from now and look through it with my kids, utilizing it as a pure description of what I was about at their age and what a true band should be about.
Beastie Boys are one of few artists who have earned the rights and respect to have such a book published, and if you don't know this, these pix will prove it, no words or reviews, just the black and whites. This collection defines "keepin' it real". Mad props to Ari, Adam;Mike:Adam for impacting my life; and any true Bboy who has this layin on their coffee table. Bboys, Bgirls, and true hip hoppers PICK THIS BOOK UP! All I gotta do now is meet these cats! Matt; age 23 [...]
