I really loved the this book for trying to copy nicely decorated rooms. I also used it as a guide when selecting new furniture to buy. I didn't like the comments on the French/Italian eras but the pictures of the rooms the decorator has done are beautiful. I love it and am looking for more like this one.

Although I have a much smaller home, I am using much of the design elements by Ms. Phillips in the renovation of my home.
A Decorator's Dream.......2006-07-11
So many lovely pictures! I am using many of the design ideas in decorating my new kitchen and breakfast room in the Country French style. I would recommend this book to everyone who is a visual learner.
Not bad, but pretty much the same look throughout.......2006-03-11
This decorating book has plenty of pictures, but I was a little disappointed that the only color scheme included was monochromatic. This is a very soothing look, but after a while the pictures start to look the same. I was hoping for some different ideas, but this book showed pretty much one idea throughout.
The only other issue I had was the tiny font used for the picture captions. Yes, I have reading glasses, but I seldom need them for casual reading. Perhaps a bit larger font would have made this book more enjoyable for me.

I LOVED JUST LOOKING AT THIS BOOK. THE IMAGINATION OF THE WHIRIGIGS AT THE FRONT OF THE BOOK WAS JUST AMAZING. THEY WERE LIKE WORKS OF ART. THE DIRECTIONS FOR THE ONES YOU ACTUALLY MAKE ARE NOT THAT ELABORATE THOUGH. BUT IT GIVES YOU LOTS OF IDEAS FOR WHEN YOU GET REALLY GOOD.

I teach arts and crafts at a summer camp in the North Georgia mountains and am always looking for some fun, original folk art to do with the kids. After buying several other whirligig books on the market, I decided to buy this one, hoping it would be easier to understand. It was! Additionally, the photo gallery is phenominal. Whimsical works of art laughing in the breeze. If you are interested in building whirligigs, this would be the first book I would recommend.

This book is filled with good quality color pictures of many projects. It also explains how to make the complicated parts of wind toys. It tells what kinds of wood will hold up, and what kinds of wood will fail. It improved my whirligig designs greatly, and added many new ideas for my new ones. Well worth the money.
Woodworking experience is helpful..........2001-07-27
I've had this book for a year and am finally making my first project (How the west was lost). IMHO you need to have some woodworking experience to do the projects other than the very simple ones. Making small parts is difficult on all but a scroll saw or bandsaw with a small blade. Step-by-step specific instructions are scarce. Still, I give this book 4 stars because I really like the projects. I also like being able to come up with my own colors and painting rather than paint by the numbers. I can tell you that the materials that they tell you to use for the mechanical parts are right on. Wire is just too flimsy from my experience. Use a photocopy machine to increase or decrease your pattern sizes. Use spray adhesive to stick the patterns on the wood and you'll get the size you want.

After reading Paul Fleischman's WHIRLIGIG, I wanted my students to share the experience of the novel's protagonist, 16-year-old Brent Bishop, who must build four whirligigs. Brent finds a used book that gets him started. It's simple, clear and useful, and it provides the basic skills and knowledge Brent needs to create his own inspired inventions. I discovered WHIRLIGIGS AND WEATHERVANES while searching for a very similar title Fleischman used in his story - Make Your Own Whirligigs and Weathervanes - which just MAY be an invention inspired by Schoonmaker and Woods's text!) My husband and I are now finishing OUR first whirligig - "Soul of the Woodworker" - incorporating a profile of my husband's head and a silhouette of my left hand! Instructions are found on pp 44-5!

This book has some great things on the included cd's, I found this more usefull than just reading becouse you can here how it should be done. This book also has a great glossery of industry terms that will help negotiate the terms of the field.

For better or worse--it depends who you're talking to--Robert Crumb's comics come barreling out of his acid-drenched id. Basic desires, racial stereotypes, and blinding rage are all poured into little panels. While that form of expression's not as novel (or liberating) as it once was, Crumb is still one of the 20th century's true American originals, and Carload O' Comics is an excellent overview of his work.
This funny, grotesque book trots out all the old favories--Mr. Natural, the Snoid, Dale Steinberger Jewish Cowgirl, and of course, Crumb himself. Some strips are, um, gynecological, some are self-indulgent, and others are just plain weird. Crumb's a faithful mirror of his times: he depicts two guys smoking dope while floating down the river in a barrel--when else but the 1960s?
Crumb may not be for kids, but he is funny in a way that a lot of his underground cronies never were. In this age of market studies and focus groups, Crumb oozes authenticity; he's an unrepentant nerdy pervert, but he's just being honest. Bless him for that, at least.

This is the book that turned me onto the brilliant - albeit ideologically controversial - work of underground cartoonist R. Crumb. This compilation first appeared in the mid-seventies and is loaded with Crumb's unique brand of social criticism. Many of the great Crumb characters are featured here (including Mr. Natural, Flakey Foont, and the delightfully impish Mr. Snoid), making this book an ideal choice for the novice Crumb reader as well as the hard-core Crumb enthusiast.

this is a great collection of crumb work from his best art period. classics such as 'my first LSD trip','R.Crumb vs the sisterhood','honeybunch kominsky','dale steinberger the jewish cowgirl' and much more are in this book. it contains 4 mr. natural stories including the 'on the bum again' adventure (adults only) and some of his most disgusting and contreversial comics. if you like R. crumb's early work i suggest this is the book for you.

The cover says it's the Creme de la Crumb.
I disagree.
When Crumb is at his best, as in Fritz the Cat,
the Mr. Natural/Flakey Foont tales, or in
_Plunge_Into_The_Depths_Of_Despair_, he's alternately
angry, funny, thought-provoking, and Zen.
If I were emperor of the universe,
his "A Short History of America"
would be given to every kid in school.
This collection misses most of what made Crumb
a sometimes delight, and includes much mediocre
material (pages of tiny panels that don't tell
a story -- of interest to amhphetamine freaks,
I guess).

reading this book you're gonna be dipping into some heavy nostalgia. get into the twisted mind and world of robert crumb and you'll probably never forget the disturbing impression it left on you. this is weirdness at it's peak.

Stuffed with classic drawings. If buying only one book on Crumb, this is it. It provides an overview of some of his best work. If buying a collection of Crumb, this volume is also a good addition. Will not be a disappointment.

An easy to read and interesting account of Gretzky's career. He is truly a hero and this book really tries to capture his spirit. This book is appropriate for hockey lovers of all ages - I bought it for my 11 year old son and found myself enjoying it immensely. The photos are fantastic and there are many of them. This book is great for any hockey player or coach and ours is kept on our coffee table.

Mark Messier (Ice Hockey Legends) is a suprisingly informative book that takes an in-depth look at the career of one of sports must decorated champions. From his days in Edmonton, were Messier won 5 Stanley Cups, to his Stanley Cup season as a New York Ranger this book is a wonderful read!
One of the must exciting aspects of the book, are the actually quotes from Messier himself. It really adds to the diversity of the book and shows the type of character & leadership that Messier is so famous for. As for the pictures themselfs, I very impressed! They are black & white, but that does not diminish the book in anyway and there are some great shots of Messier from his earlier days as an Oiler.
Bottom line. Get the the book, it truely is a great read! Messier is without question one of the all time great leaders and champions of any sport!

THIS IS ABOUT MARK MESSIER FORMER NHL GREAT. THE BOOK COVERS THE CAREER OF MESSIER AND A BIT OF HIS PRIVATE LIFE. MOST OF THE BOOK IS ABOUT HIS CAREER WITH THE NEW YORK RANGERS AND HIS LEADERSHIP THAT HELP THEM FINALLY WIN A STANLEY CUP. THE BOOK IS NOT WRITTEN GREAT DETAIL BUT STILL IS INTERESTING AND MOVES ALONG. I FOUND SOME OF HIGHLIGHTS WERE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GRETZKY, HIS BURNING DESIRE TO WIN AND THE BIG EGO AND THE HIGH MAINTENANCE HE REQUIRES TO KEEP HIM HAPPY AND TO PLAY HARD. IT IS A NICE EASY READ AND IS ENTERTAINING. RECOMMENDED.

Mark Messier is and always will be my favorite hockey player but this book provides no original insight into his character whatsoever. The book offers the same repetitve praise over and over about what great leader he is without ever touching upon the other sides of his personality, particularly the darker and more personal aspects that we don't get to read about in the paper. This book could have been written in a week.
