Customer Reviews:
For architecture buffs.......2007-08-08
This book is a must have for those who are interested in historic houses. We plan to visit every house over the next 10 years.
Gilded Age Grandeur.......2005-09-22
This is wonderful book on a most deserving subject. American is blessed with amazing houses, built mostly during the Gilded Age by business barons. This book does a great job illustrating the different styles and discussing the houses that best embody these styles. The color photos are vivid and crisp and the houses chosen are spectacular. The text is highly informative and very interesting. It is so refreshing that so many of these mansions have survived for so long and thankfully these examples have been well cared for. It must have been difficult for the author to choose just one house to illustrate a style, but it's hard to argue with the ones she ultimatly chose. Nice read.
Well done all around........2000-09-19
You could think of this as a coffee-table version of the McAlester's Field Guide to American Houses (which I also recommend.) In this case each house is an historical landmark as well as an exemplar of an architectural style, and the photos are suitably sumptuous. I like coffee-table books that also give you solid information as well as pretty pictures, and this one succeeds admirably on both counts. It may not have every artist's or magnate's house you can think of, but it has a lot of them. A modern classic.
Beautiful photos and excellent information.......1999-01-18
My wife and I love this book. It explains architectural styles by profiling oustanding examples found throughout the United States. The McAlesters not only explain the architectural elements that make a house extraordinary, they also give the fascinating history of the homes and their owners, which include Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, and Thomas Edison. In each profile, they also include simple line drawings that clearly identify the features of the style. Since buying this book, we have visited eight of the 25 houses and plan on seeing them all. This book will not gather dust on your coffee table.
A beautiful Architectual and Interior Design Book.......1998-06-11
The book has beautiful pictures of historical homes through out the United States. It also includes details about the architecture designs and a listing about how you can visit these house museums.

Product Description
This new 2006 revised edition is the most complete guide to marks on Mexican silver. There are over 1500 cross-referenced marks! Eagle numbers from 1 through 219. Extensive reference bibliography. First edition was mostly line drawings - this new edition has b&w photos of most marks!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Resource of Mexican Marks.......2007-05-24
Over 200 pages of Mexican silver marks. The pictures are clear of the actual mark on the silver. Has a brief history under the makers name when available. Would buy this book again.
Mexican Silver trademark reference.......2007-03-27
A great reference book for collectors of Mexican silver jewelry. There are lots of pictures of marks as well as a long list of initials of Mexican designers including artists signatures with two initials and three initials. The Mexican eagle stamp is noted in all of its various forms through the decades. There is also a reference of the designers in the various Eagle numbered shops.

Book Description
Mexico's streams give forth cool green jade and rich gold; her shores provide coral and dainty pearls. Her brown hills yield silver and copper and gems whose colors form a dazzling palette for the jeweler. And Mexico has never lacked the artists to mold her abundant jewels into finished pieces of beauty. In this enjoyable volume, Mary L. Davis and Greta Pack introduce us to the splendors of Mexican jewelry. First published over two decades ago, Mexican Jewelry has become a classic introduction to the richness and variety of this Mexican folk art.
Customer Reviews:
History of Mexican Jewelry.......2005-08-28
This is a great book if you're looking to read up on the history of Mexican jewelry. But if you're looking for photos of Mexican jewelry or their markings, this is not the book you're looking for.
A good intro or addition to any library on Mexican silver.......2003-01-08
Though this book is slightly dated and lacks the lavish illustrations of some newer coffee-table treatises, it provides a good, basic overview of Taxco silverwork and traditional Mexican jewelry. (It is interesting to note that these authors are often quoted and cited in the newer works.) The book was written in the early '60's, just at the apogee of Taxco's productivity.
As a youngster, I spent many hours in Taxco, particularly in the talleres (workshops) of Hector Aguilar (Taller Borda) and the Castillo family, and have always been attracted to the diverse traditions of Mexican silver jewelry- from Michoacan, Oaxaca and elsewhere, including Taxco, which was extremely important in the renaissance of contemporary Mexican silver jewelry. The era of large talleres is largely over, with a very few still in existence. Much jewelry in Taxco today is made in tiny home workshops on contract, resulting in a decline of design and variety, not to mention the average workmanship.
This book is an excellent introduction, readable and intelligently written and illustrated, if limited in its scope and size due to the lack of supporting audience when it was written. I highly recommend it to those with an interest in Mexican jewelry and its traditions...
This is a primer; a supplement to a Taxco library.......1999-09-04
The authors wrote this before the move to collect became as advanced as at present. There photos are b & w and they are plentiful for this reprint - i have not seen the original; and the text is short and to the point about a few artists. The preamble about Mexican silver antedating the Taxco movment is enlightening and very nicely done. Once can never have enough photos to have an appreciation and this little book adds to one's library of Taller and Taxco and is most welcome even if not a giant or in color.

Customer Reviews:
A Definitive Reference.......2007-01-10
Mexican Silver by Penny Morrill and Carole Berk is the definitive reference for anyone interested in 20th Century Mexican silver jewelry. Not only is it brimming with information on the jewelry, the background biographies of the working life of Spratling, Davis, Aguilar, Margot and many other giants of this industry are well written and a darn good read. After spending several hours reading the book I the expertise that I would have gained had I taken a 3 credit college course. There is a general price guide in the back of the book which, from my experience, accurate and reasonable. The only observation I might make is that there is not as much information on silver hollow ware and decorative pieces. For myself, my main interest is in the jewelry so I was not disappointed.
The Amazon price can't be beat. Before I bought the book through Amazon I had not seen it for less than $60, its list price. I paid less than $40 on Amazon!
A Wonderful Book that Doesn't Pertain to Me.......2007-01-10
You have to admire the research that went into this sumptuous volume, also the photos. As a (very) amateur collector, this work, I'm sorry to say, doesn't pertain much to me. Still, I'm happy to have it on my shelf.
Great overview for collectors.......2007-01-09
I recommend this book to anyone interested in Mexican Silver jewelry of the 1930's - 50's. It gives a wonderful overview of the history of this unique craft. It also provides knowledgeable information about which pieces and designers are most collectible, with high-quality photos of many of the best pieces. I started collecting Mexican Silver jewelry 10 years ago out of sentiment, because my mother and grandmother used to wear it. Learning the history of this type of jewelry has made me even more fond of the genre, and has given me the knowledge to collect more valuable pieces.
Mexican Silver.......2007-01-09
I was disapointed in the book personally.. It's just a great big heavy picture book. (eye candy)
I believe a collector would appreciate a non vague value guides as well which this book does not have. The value guides are exp: Margot necklaces - 600.00-2500.00+ huh? What is my blue enamel circle necklace worth?? 600.00 or 2500.00?!
This is a book about a select few mexican silver makers and their life stories. (few pages on unknowns)
Perhaps a good book to have on a coffee table but that is not what I needed.
I had hoped this book would help to identify mexican marks I have that can't be found on the internet, all of the silversmiths listed in the book can be and are well documented online. There are personal accounts as well but for the most part this is a coffee table book.
It is very expensive so I hope I can help anyone looking for exact value guides from buying the wrong book.
If you like to collect Mexican jewelry you probably should eventually get this book, but as far as a good value guide line for Mexican non-well known Jewelry go else where.
A superb guide for Mexican silver collectors .......2006-09-21
An antique dealer turned me on to this book and I finally bought it this past summer at an antique expo here in Portland, Oregon. The price tag is a bit spendy, but the information within, along with the masterful photogrpahy, makes this book well worth the money. Any serious collector of Mexican silver needs to have this book in their library. The authors give readers an inside look at the artists that have made mid-century to contemporary silversmithing in Taxco what it is today.

Book Description
Everything she ever cared about - everything she ever loved - was taken from her in a blinding moment of pain. Ita Otami, the youngest captain ever to serve the Tokyo Police Department, is on a quest to hunt down the murderer of her fiance when she suddenly finds herself thrust into a conspiracy of epic depths. Her path of righteous vengeance quickly unfolds into a millennium-aged war against mythological creatures, which until now have remained patiently hidden among us. Racing against time, Ita must now uncover the truth, before this hidden war destroys what's left of her family, and consumes the entire world.
Customer Reviews:
Wow, an American doing Anime, and not too shabby..........2006-04-26
When I was talked into reading this, my hopes were not too high seeing that there were no Japanese names in the credits, however disappointment was not the case. It looks like Samuel Bohon actually puts his heart and soul into drawing these characters and bringing the story to life. I would not be suprised if one day this manga comes to the screen in the form of a series, the story is original and well executed. I don't want to spoil too much, but the dragons are awesome and the character depth is better than most modern comics. Anyhow, I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for something new and original.
My first manga..and a great one at that!.......2006-01-20
I read this the day it came out, was anticipating it's realease for a while...I was pleased with the artwork, gorgeous ink work! The story starts off without any hesitation, and you go right into the depth of the main character, Ita. I at first got lost on certain portions of the story, but going over it one more time actually helped me better understand it. This book is well worth getting, especially if your into samurai/ninja assassins, dragons, and of course butt-kicking women. You should totally pick it up, you want regret it!

Customer Reviews:
Excellent comics, Don't be fooled by Amazon's By-line.......2004-10-22
Ctrl Alt Del is a wonderful comic, I should know, I've been reading since the beginning and I know Tim Buckley, I worked with him, I reviewed games and movies for the site. However the peculiar thing about this page is that Jim Starlin, credited as the author of this book, is NOT the author of this book, the author is Tim Buckley, who goes by Absath online. And, as far as I know, he does not offer the book through Amazon. My advice to potential buyers is to visit www.cad-comic.com and watch the newsposts until Absath says otherwise. If anyone has ordered this through Amazon and recieved a copy, please let me know at andre.galan@gmail.com .
(Edit) On further investigation, I have discovered some things. The publisher is Starline Media, this may have something to do with the Jim Starlin error. Jim Starlin, as far as I can tell, has nothing to do with Starline Media, which has more to do with Real Life Comics than anything else. A simple google search will reveal that Ctrl Alt Del has had dealings with Starline Media before, if only being seated at their convention table. A search at the Starline Media site for Jim Starlin yields no results. Furthermore, the Ctrl Alt Del official store, Gamer Warez, has no mention of the book as of 10/20/04. Buyer Beware. I'll update/remove this review as I deem necessary.
Will wonders never cease?!.......2004-10-14
I love this book. Watching it be made and put together via updates by Tim on his website (http://www.cad-comic.com) was amazing! The book has the first 150 comics from the archive. Now, I know you're thinking, why not just read the archives for free? Well, you could do that, but the extra content is absolutely worth it. Tim put commentary on every page, not just from him, but from the characters (Ethan, Lucas, Chef Brian, Lilah, Ted, Scott, etc...). He also included an original story that is endlessly amusing and fun. The comic itself is a gaming comic, but it also is just plain funny. I'm not a hardcore gamer and I find it amusing.
I highly recommend this book to any CAD fan or anyone who just wants to get into webcomics.
