As an illustrator, Jessie Willcox Smith ranks right at the top along side Norman Rockwell. Smith gives the reader a glimpse into the whimsical world of childhood innocence. The reflection of childhood emotions illustrated by this artist allows the reader to look backward into his own childhood experience. I am a teacher who really likes to draw cartoons on my board but honestly I don't know how. I used to memorise a face or two to use but now with this kit, things are much easier. There are 50 retooner boards in which you can learn about drawing faces, features, bodies, and everything you need. You can create so many drawings and even retooner cards from th accompanying book or even Blitz Big Book of Cartooning. My poor 8, 6, 3-year old kids just opened their mouths with excitement and just looked at the cartoons i created. By the way the kit is for me not them and so they have to earn their kits by being really nice kids. I am sure I can't wait to buy each one of them the tool to be great cartoonists.

It pertains a good assortment of garden flowers and the drawing is graceful. Yet, the interpretation of the shading by scatter dots sometimes make the design look too busy.

This book of black and white line drawings has a wealth of flower designs in several sizes and shows those flowers from several different angles. Most common American flowers are represented and the index makes a particular flower easy to locate. I have used it for pen and ink drawing, china painting, and embroidery designs but it would be equally useful to woodworkers or oil painters. The renditions are detailed enough to get a firm understanding of the flowers structure and the shading, while subtle, would be helpful to a new student who might have problems with light and shadow. It is one of the most used source books in my collection.

This book is divided into 5 categories: florals, paisleys, geometrics, conversationals (which includes fruits, veges, animals, landscape), and folk designs. I've enjoyed the folk design chapter as it inclues scandinavian, slavic, mexican, african, and oriental designs. There are 725 motifs in this book which are helpful in a huge variety of artistic endeavors

I thought it was a collection of original Japanese designs. The editor apparently took it upon herself to redraw them, and that is what's contained herein. The designs end up diminished, weaker than the traditional crisp oriental linework. I would return it if possible. Very disappointed.
a decent reference for tattooing.......2003-03-22
If quanity and quick reference for tattooing is what you're looking for, look no further. Be warned though the illustrations are pretty weak in a lot of areas, so be ready to redraw! But there are tons of floral designs (especially lotus) and simple designs that are invaluable for a tattooer. So as far as an excellent source on traditional japanese art it is not, but it could be handy in the shop.

I thought this would be a BORING book. I had to find a book for my L.A. project and chose this randomly. I just finished reading it-and to my surprise-it was so exciting! It was very suspenseful, deep, and kept me on the edge of my chair! I couldn't help but turn the page continuously and read for hours. I am unusually like this unless I am reading a REALLY good book. And that's what this is--a REALLY good book and more!

This story is filled with unbelievable twist. It will keep you at the edge of your sit, and the ending was amazing. You won't believe what happens and you really will not guess who the killer is! I give this story five stars, a great job by Elizabeth Chandler.

Jenny's sister, Liza, was murdered while she was at drama camp and Jenny went there to find out if it really was a serial killer who did it. While she's there, Jenny keeps having these visions that are like memories of what Liza saw near to the time when she was murdered. Jenny is finding more and more clues and has many suspects. She doesnt think it was a serial killer, she thinks it was someone that knew Liza, and she needs to find out because they might try to kill her next. Jenny keeps touching things that give her chills and suggest that they had to do with the murder, like a hammer that she had a vision of being the murder weapon, and sometimes she has visions when she stands in a place that Liza was. Jenny doesnt tell the people there that she is Liza's sister and subtly asks around to find out more. Will she find out who the murderer is before they get her too? Read it to find out!!

This is a phenominal book, full of friendship and betrayal. It has captivating characters, even those who have "passed on" are intriguing and lead to a smooth flowing novel. Every detail helps pull the plot together in a superb ending.

When she died in 1999, Liz Tilberis was only 51 years old and had battled ovarian cancer for several years. Her influence over the fashion world in the UK and USA was considerable and at the height of success she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Liz was able to chronicle her efforts fighting the disease before it claimed her and in the years since ... one thing is clear ... take time to live ... because as glamorous as life can be ... it is not immunity against a sudden illness.

Interesting and also scary...........2003-11-01
I don't think this book was promoted very well when it was published. I just happened upon it in a used book store and picked it up because my stepmother had recently died of ovarian cancer-- and also because I'm always interested in reading about the fashion world. Tilberis sometimes came across as a bit shallow; she apparently took the whole fashion world VERY seriously, instead of viewing it with the detachment and "Well, it's a living" attitude of some fashionistas I know. Also, after describing her very long struggle to have children, which ultimately resulted in her adopting two sons, she seemed to have taken little interest in raising them; her husband pretty much was a single parent, while she lived and breathed Harper's Bazaar 24/7.
But on the whole, I really enjoyed the book, especially the insider stuff about the fashion business. I also appreciated the thorough information that Tilberis gives about detection and treatment of ovarian cancer. By the end of the book she seems resigned to dying fairly soon, but is just trying to enjoy every day that is left to her. She died within two years of the book's publication.

In the 3rd Mali Anderson books, the author goes for the suspense route instead of the mystery. We know who the killer is, now we just have to figure out why and when will he strike again and who will be his next victim. The author did a great job with the transistion from mystery to suspense, A serial killer in Harlem. As always, the reader is treated to Harlem history, landscape and nightlife. If you have never been to Harlem, you will feel like you just visited there after reading one of Grace's books. THis was an intriguing novel. I look forward to the next one.
"No Time To Die".......2000-09-22
After reading "No Time to Die" I was not too impressed because I found the story line pretty predictable. Although, over all it was a good book. I enjoyed reading it even though it was predictable because it was interesting, the way the writer wrote the book and the way one thing led to another kept me interested. There was a loose killer in the Harlem streets and Mali's best friend was the first to be murdered. So, because Mali was on this particular case she was very intent and determined to find the murderer. Although, I don't think she realized that while she had intent to find the murderer, the murderer also intended to find her.

This is the 3rd installment in the Mali Anderson mystery series.
Harlem Sleuth Mali Anderson is back and on a case that is personal to her. Mali is a brave person who knows her neighborhood and easily connects with its residents whether she is in beauty shop or a playground basketball court. Expect an in your face heroine. Abizarre and brutal killer is on the loose in Harlem and he has killed malis best friend, Claudine Hastings. It becomes clear that the killings are in Malis own neighborhood. As the bodies continue to pile higher, Mali fears for those close to her, not realizing that she is to be the next victim. This book has very colorful characters and it leaves you wondering if Mali will ever catch this guy. Ms Edward's style is free flowing and very easy to follow.
Decent but not great.......2000-03-12
I thought this was a decent read but not great. I loved the authors discussion of Harlem but found the storyline was predictable. In all fairness to the author however, this was the first Mali Anderson mystery novel that I have read. I have subsequently ordered her other novels. I think that I was at a disadvantage because I am sure that much of the stuff referenced in this book went back to her 2 previous Mali Anderson novels. I look forward to reading those novels next.
Just Delighted.......2000-02-16
Once again, Grace Edwards has delighted her readers with the intelligence and tenacity of Mali Anderson. The characters are keenly developed and the "plot thickened" with every page. Unlike the other perpertrators, in the Mali Anderson series, we are introduced to this sinister evil, early on. As a person very interested in the social sciences, I found myself wanting to help "Ache" and hoped he would find redemption before destruction.

After years of tracking him, they finally catch up with Walter in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
