A handy referance guide.......2007-04-01
I found this to be a good referace book for quick peaks at help in the bid and estimate of basic landscape construction projects.
landscaping estimating methods.......2005-08-23
It simply sucks. It does not help with estimating in a landscape company. Also it's too difficult to understand and too complex. All I wanted to know is how to estimate walkways patios, decks, tree removal, etc.... This book does not do it. [...]you will see how bad this book is..

Description:
Modern technology makes it easy to show how forested landscapes might change with time but it remains difficult to estimate how sampling error affects landscape simulation results. To address this problem we used two methods to project the area in late-seral forest (LSF) structure for the same 6070 hectare (ha) study site over 30 years. The site was stratified into patches by using aerial photos and data were collected on sample plots within the stratum. Our two methods differed in how the initial forest conditions in unsampled patches were attributed. Using method 1, we randomly assigned empirical plot data from sampled patches to unsampled patches within the same stratum; with method 2 we bootstrapped the plot data to identify a probability distribution of LSF structure for a sampled patch and then randomly assigned these probabilities to unsampled patches within the same stratum. Both methods used an individual tree growth model to project changes in forest structure. In the first decade, the 'assignment' method produced an estimate of 2489ha of LSF structure, an amount lying at the upper tail of the projection interval created by using the bootstrapped or 'probabilistic' method. The probabilistic method identified the variation in LSF structure within landscape stratum, the strata most likely to contribute to LSF structure, the projected mean area in LSF structure each decade, and the variation in hectares associated with the projections. Data maps from both methods, together with projection intervals from the probabilistic method, offer enhanced ways to communicate the potential variation in landscape simulation.

Book Description
From antelopes to zebras, the A-to-Z of creatures inhabiting these lively pages are lovingly depicted by ten gifted wildlife artists who reveal their carefully developed techniques for achieving remarkably realistic animal art.
Emphasizing the all-important details of rendering wildlife, the book devotes separate sections to animals' eyes, whiskers, beaks, fur, and so on. Sketches, studies, and reference photos used by master painters show just how their bird and animal portraits evolved into magnificent finished works in watercolor, gouache, oil, pastel, or other mediums.
Customer Reviews:
very nice and inspiring artwork but not enough detail about techniques used.......2006-07-25
this book only brievly describe the techniques used and sometimes what medium was used is not even mentioned. This is a nice book for the artwork, but as a teatching tool, it is not the book to buy. There are a few useful tips and a rough explanation with visual on how a mountain lion with cubs painting was done, but all we see from that is the 3 main step of that painting. Most exemple don't even go there and only have a bit of text explanation.

Beautiful art work , alot of helpful tips on how to get the right look with hair/fur . A great gift even for children to peak their interest in art .

Customer Reviews:
hilarious & funny.......2006-11-05
This book was a random choice. The title was intrigue, so I order it. To my surprise the story was hilarious and funny, with a serious touch.
Unique and Insightful!.......2006-09-13
Most American manga these days lacks alot of storytelling and character development, plus, the art is well---not very appealing, kinda stagnant and 'doll-like'. But this book, is a different matter.
All the characters are interesting, but I relate the most to Judas--so introverted, lacking self-esteem,not use to affection at all--but who could not recognise having a crush now and then as silly and out of proportion as Judas has for his professor?
I generally don't enjoy yaoi because most of it lacks substance and meaning, but INCUBUS actually projects the type of character insight and psychological drama that one, looking for more than excuses for sex, will appreciate.
All I hope for, is that this series keeps going, and teaches other yaoi manga (Japanese and American) that sometimes an intriging story can be just as inticing as the erotic scenes themselves.
Too expensive for its shortness.......2006-08-11
The art was so-so and the story nothing that exciting either. This manga is also really short (only 128 pages) and thus rather expensive. It does seem that I didn't like it much, doesn't it? So, why I'm writing about it here?
Well, I didn't fall in love with the main pairing (Judas and Lenniel) but with the supporting couple: Kent and his young master (nope, it's not D/s, what are you thinking about! sheesh! XP). Kent is a butler in this "young master's" family. The young man (younger than Kent! woohoo!) falls in love with Kent and starts a relationship with him. But then something happens...
They are much more interesting than Judas and Lenniel. What I minded the most was Judas' obsession with his professor. That one was rather overdone. But there were some really cute scenes like: Judas to Lenniel: "More explaining, less touching, please..." XP
Still, I would give it only 3 stars and I'm not all that bouncy about the second volume. It's not on the top of my "to buy" list.
A solid, plot focused Yaoi with adventure to spare!.......2006-05-16
The tale involves a sweet college student (who moons over his professor) and the Incubus who haunts his dreams. Of course, most people wouldn't mind being haunted by a creature like this. ;) Unfortunately for the Incubus, the main character (Judas) is a bit of a prude.
I was pulled into this manga: partly because it was well laid out, with a good storyline, but mainly because I became very interested in learning more about the relationship between Judas and Lenniel. There is a lot more to this couple than originally thought and I know book two will contain more surprises for us.
Also, this book contains action (and not just the usual 'action between the sheets' which we expect from a yaoi manga), as other creatures want Judas' soul and Lenniel must fight to protect him. The action was very well done, with unique view points and well planned fight scenes, which added to the pull of the plot. I almost felt that this manga was choreographed like a movie, the scene with Lenniel watching from on top a wall with his coat blowing in the breeze was especially moving for me.
All in all, I give this a 4.5 - this is a very solid manga which is enjoyable, interesting and exciting.
Warning: both main characters are very, very masculine, which I found unusual at first but soon was able to adapt to.
A wonderful surprise..........2006-02-10
I bought this volume at Yaoi-con, one of the very few titles I bought this year that wasn't part of the sudden glut of translated Japanese yaoi titles that have been brought over by American companies. Now, normally I view original comics done in Japanese style with a great deal of trepidation, since they never seem to actually live up to the standards of their Japanese counterparts, but this one surprised me.
The story was GOOD, very gripping. I honestly can't wait for the next volume to come out, whenever that might be, considered that it's by an artist I've never heard of and put out by a publisher that seems to be off the beaten track. I'd never heard of the publisher, either, and I haunt informational sites and mailing lists for yaoi titles quite religiously.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting read and woman.......2005-02-26
Regardless of how you feel about fashion or Vogue, it is an interesting character study of a woman of that time, bucking the expectations of her family, her chosen industry, and of society in general as she married very late in life and never had children.
I admire Mirabella for refusing to allow cigarette ads in Mirabella and for being so independant. No, she didn't try to please anyone but herself, but what an amazing feat that was considering that Oprah has built her dynasty on teaching women how to do just that.
Not the greatest book in the world, but worth reading for the viewpoint. I would also recommend reading Katharine Graham's autobiography. That will roll your socks up and down.
Disclaimer: I worked for Mirabella magazine's Chicago office for the last nine months before it was sold to the publisher's of Elle magazine and was then hired by said company to work for another recent acquistion, Premiere. I met her "Grace" once and only to shake her hand and stand aside. She was pleasant, though.
Mirabella blows hot air!.......2003-08-22
Mirabella's scathing account of her time at Vogue reads like a bleeding heart story of how she was wronged. What her one-sided account leaves out intentionally is what an amazing fashion editor Diana Vreeland was; at Harper's Bazaar, fashion editor at Vogue and finally, editor-in-chief at Vogue. Vreeland is the quintessential fashion editor which is why she's studied in fashion schools, has had exhibits of her work at the Met, countless books written on her. Mirabella tries to claim she made fashion more democratic, but Vreeland was the true originator; her use of ethnic models, the photographers she chose to work with( Avedon, Bailey), the content of the magazine took it from being a society-rag, to a more modern take of the world of fashion and style. Mirabella turns her acid tongue not just on Vreeland but on the wonderful photographer Helmut Lang, Avedon, fashion editor Polly Mellen and of course, Anna Wintour. Mirabella doesn't take credit for her own downfall; she was an editor at fashion magazine-they show fashion in all its outrageous, banal or causal air-what ever way the winds of fashion fall, the magazine has to reflect that. Her decade was the seventies. She reflected what was happening in fashion and the world at the time; she showcased American designers like Halston, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, Geoffrey Beene. She favored the tall, blued-eyed blondes Patti Hansen, Roseanne Vela, Lauren Hutton, Karen Graham with their "tiny noses and big white teeth...exotic, `interesting'-looking girls weren't for me. The word of the day was pretty." She admits her book. But the eighties was the complete opposite of the seventies, but she chose to stay firmly planted in the past instead of showing the fashions of the eighties; she despised Christian Lacroix's clothes choosing to ignore one of the hottest designers at the time while other fashion outlets(Bazaar, Women's Wear Daily, Elle, etc) where showing his popular designs. Is it no wonder than that Alex Liberman had to overrule her? Her ego is so over the top, she felt she was "saving" women from fashions she didn't care for. The irony of the situation is she was fired for the exact same reason Vreeland was: being out of touch with fashion.
Her book is an interesting read in a person so detached from reality and how they ruined their own career. What of Mirabella's own magazine, the magazine for real women? It folded like a stack of cards. It goes to show you what women really want.
Inside the world of FASHION.......1999-10-01
Grace Mirabella not only lets you in on her life and her rise throught the fashion world, but she also takes us you on a wonderful ride and adventure. She truly made VOGUE a wonderful magazine and when she was 'let go' she didn't pout instead she started her own successful magazine, MIRABELLA. Thank you Grace for writing your memoir and sharing your life with us all.

Crepe Recipes.......2007-06-28
There are many fine crepes in this book, but the best is still my Grandmother's.
Pretty Good.......2007-03-30
The book was smaller in size then what I expected, but has a lot of recipes. It also has large font so it makes it easy to read. The recipes are wonderful and simple. There are a lot of basic instruction for simple crepes and different ways to make a basic crepe. Then they give you more diverse recipes to embellish on the simple styles.
You get what you pay for.......2007-03-05
I found this book good for the money. It lacks pictures & I prefer illustrated cookbooks, but if you simply want to make crepes then I found the basic Crepe recipe was right on. I used a blender to process my mixture & used a low heat on my range. I would guess there are better books around but this one won't let you down.
Good but not flashy.......2007-01-15
Lots of wonderful recipes are contained in this tiny crepe book. I might have appreciated a few more photographs IE any, but that's alright. Definitely worth the price!
a great little book!.......2006-07-01
I love this little recipe book! It is very simply written, but informative -- everything from what a crepe is and how to turn them, stack them, freeze them, and thaw them, to diagrams on folding crepes and blintzes, and, of course, the recipes: the basic crepe recipe followed by all the variations, as well as dessert crepes and blintzes. Haven't tried very many yet, but am looking forward to it -- especially the orange dessert crepes.
