Great pattern book.......2005-05-07
This is one of the great pattern books of the nineteenth century. This, and others like it, were responsible for a greater proportion of excellent buildings not designed by architects than at any point since in the history of the USA.
Good historic resource.......2000-05-18
This is an early pattern book that was in circulation during the mid and late 1800's. It is good only as a historic resource for those wishing to further their studies in American architecture. It is not a practical book for a practicing architect, builder, or restoration buff. The plates are beautiful and the descriptive geometry is fascinating.

Painting Wildlife with John Seerey-Lester.......2003-08-27
The layout of this book is clear and concise making it easy to follow. However, I did feel that the author relied on some known artistic knowledge of such things as tonal values, lighting, etc. As a beginner, I found there were many words and ideas that I did not understand which I floundered on. Nevertheless, in fairness the demonstrations were excellent and some of the best that I have seen. I liked the way the colours to each painting were shown which I found a great help. If you already have some wildlife painting experience then this book is ideal for furthering technique.

Zone System simplified.......2001-12-17
I have been studying zone system off and on for over twenty years. I have read numerous!!! articles on how to perfect you own personal zone system. I have always wanted to sit down and write my own personal "guide" to that system. "Zone System", by Brian Lav has created my guide for me; at least the first half. Brian's book is consise and steps right through and simplifies the calibration process. Thank-you, Brian.
Hopefully Brian will step up to the plate and take us into an advanced guide. With his writing style I am sure it will be a hit.
Zone System simplified.......2001-12-07
I have read several books on zone system over the years, and have practiced the art as time has allowed. "The Zone System", by Brian Lav, takes all of the literature that I have read over the years, and condenses them all down into a simple and easy to follow format.
I started out several times to write my own guide on the complete zone system process, taken from all of the multitude of articles I have read, fortunately Brian has written the first half of my guide.
If I were to start out in the zone system or needing to start out again, Brian's book would be the one I would turn to first. The book from start to finish, steps you through the way of establishing your own zone system.
Great work Brian, now for the second half of my guide please.
Basic and practical - an easy read.......2001-09-06
The Zone System is a system for getting "perfect" negatives and development of black-and-white photographs. For those of you who are familiar with the work of Ansel Adams and his remarkable black-and-white photographs, they are fine examples of the use of the zone system and he was a proponent of the system.
Basically it details how to get the right lighting exposure for a photograph. By dividing the gray scale into eleven segments that are related to f-stops and shutter speeds it teaches how to place your subject in the right zone. In addition it teaches where the darkest areas should fall, how to determine where the highlights fall, how to compress or expand the zones in development, etc.
If you want to rise above the average photographer then knowing how to use the zone system is a requirement. This is an excellent book on the system and details it's use in an very user friendly manner.

Excellent book. The more honest book about psycology of women ever. I got it from a female friend, women enjoy it, but men will enjoy and learn from it.
From the book I learned and confirmed so much about being in a relationship with a woman (Mother, girlfriend, syster, daughter, wife, coworker). This book reflects in a humorous, concise and graphical way, the daily and simple adventures of modern women, while getting bottom line without offending anybody.
This book would prevent many problems between couples beforehand. Maitena goes deep into the reality of every possible serious situation from dating to parenting with the magic of creating laughs as eventually you will get yourself in it ( and hopefully safe out of it).
Maitena the argentinian female writer is a master of words and painting. I hope the english translation be ready soon.

En un mundo de comics donde las mujeres tienen poca cabida, Maitena se perfila como una de las mas fuertes exponentes del feminismo inteligente, narrando el complejo mundo de la mujer a través del humor gráfico. Como hombre me encantan sus cartones y me ha ayudado a comprender a mi pareja. Maitena muestra un feminismo refinado, intelectual y no misandro.

Maitena is an argentinian cartoonist, who delights in surprising the reader, and making him laugh. Her sense of humor is rather acerbic, but I think that is quite refreshing. Her cartoons center on women, what happens to us (at work, in relationships, etc...) and how we think. Maybe you won't identify with what happens in many of her comics, but you'll certainly feel others depict quite closely what happens to you or your friends.
After having success with her cartoons, she was asked to compile them in books. This is the first of her books in the "Mujeres Alteradas" ("Altered women") series. In a recent New York Times's article Maitena explained the reason for the title of the series. She said that "To me an altered woman is one who has all of these battlefields open at the same time". "We've got work, men, maternity, our body, our friends, our mothers, a whole bunch of things, and that's what puts us in an altered state, in which we can go from euphoria to a depressed crying jag in 15 minutes".
I really enjoyed this compilation of cartoons, and I believe you are highly likely to do the same, provided you know at least a little bit of spanish, or are well predisposed to reading it with the help of a small english-spanish/spanish-english dictionary. Having already taken the "language issue" into consideration, I think I can strongly recommend this book to you. I would like to finish this review with a quotation from the article I mentioned above. There Maitena says that "Women are not all the same, but the same things happen to us". In my opinion, that is the reason why all women (and men interested in knowing more about us) will love this book.

This book has a lot of jokes (in spanish) regarding everyday life nowadays, from a modern woman's point of view. The author, Maitena, is quite well-known in Argentina, and her work has also been published in Spain and France.
If you read it, not only will you have fun, you'll also improve your spanish. I recommend it to women, but also to men (I think that after reading this book they are highly likely to understand us better:)!!).
On the whole, I think that buying this book is a good idea if you want to laugh a lot, and practise your spanish. Maitena might be sometimes too caustic, but she is always amusing.
