Book Description
A stunning tribute to Detroit's architectural heritage, this book features ninety full-color photographs of the city's most impressive buildings.
Customer Reviews:
Nice pictures and essays.......2006-02-22
My only complaint is that these are obviously digital photos. They just can't match the crispness of film.
Great Book! Great Architects!.......2005-12-13
"American City: Detroit Architecture 1845-2005" is an excellent photography book. Not only is it a wonderful "coffee- table" book, but one that depicts the architectural history of Detroit that is now, sadly, being overlooked. Sharoff and Zbaren selected 50 buildings that they fell represent the "best" of Detroit over the past 160 years. Some of the architects represented are Albert Kahn, Isamu Noguchi, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Minoru Yamasaki, Philip Johnson, and many more. It's time to take a "new" look at Detroit.

Inspiring, beautiful and full of good tips.......1996-12-30
As a beginning pastelist, I found this book to be quite an
inspirational journey. It showed me possibilities and beauty
in a medium unfamiliar to most. I had a sense of being
educated almost unconciuosly because I was so engrossed in
the information and drawn into the beauty of this book. I
highly recommend it as a reference tool and as a treat for
the eyes.
Customer Reviews:
Good book for learning the many kinds of pastels.......2001-05-20
I found this book to be full of information about the different kinds of pastels that are available and the best paper to use when using pastels. It touched on the use of techniques in achieving whatever look you want. The pictures are beautiful! But as to whether by following the instructions you can get the same result is questionable. All and all a wonderful book to have but I think difficult for begginners who are just trying Pastels to follow.
Great for Beginners.......2000-06-17
I found this book provides a lot of information on the fundamental techniques that artists use when creating pastel works. It also covers quite a varying range of styles and subjects using all colour images. There are quite a few detailed breakdowns of how pastels are created from underpainting (or not) following right through a work to completion.
As someone new to using pastels I found this book to be most informative and interesting and a great addition to my technical library.

Widely respected for his stunningly astute observations of dogs (more specifically, of the majestic Weimaraner), William Wegman once again dazzles with Puppies. Here Wegman chronicles three generations of Weimaraners with his insightful commentary and exceptional photography. Wegman's love for his dogs is expressed in every photograph and in every line of his awe-filled text. Speaking about his second Weimaraner, Fay, the author says, "She looked like she had wandered out of a Rousseau painting. Those luminous yellow eyes."
Fay's radiance inspired Wegman to greater creative depths: he began dressing her up to appear almost human, a common theme in his photographs. Fay starred in many Wegman titles, including ABC and Cinderella. It is Fay's children, and later her grandchildren, who take the center stage in William Wegman's Puppies. Wegman's photographs are, as always, astonishing, capturing the beauty and individualism of each puppy. He labels his photographs with humorous bylines: a puppy sitting in a planter is labeled "Pup Pot." The exceptional physique of the Weimaraner becomes more pronounced as the puppies grow; at two weeks, the puppies are almost extraterrestrial in appearance, with large ears and wrinkled skins. But they are still exquisite, and the photos capture every expression and posture. Wegman has the utmost respect for his dogs, and his subjects are in turn fully content and relaxed in the presence of their photographer. Wegman has the ability to draw us exceptionally close to his dogs, and this wonderful collection captures the true spirit and beauty of the Weimaraner.

Devotees of William Wegman's artful canine photographs will be delighted by this new wall calendar of weimaraner puppies, who are as adventurous and photogenic as their parents. Wegman's puppy photographs are beautiful, inventive, and "inescapably" cute. 12 x 12"
Customer Reviews:
a little disappointed.......2007-03-27
I wish this book had more pages - more written pages as well as more photos. The story about how it all started was great, but it seemed to end prematurely. One can read this book in 5 minutes. And I really wish there were more photos like the ones we associate with william wegman's work (like in calendars, for example) instead of only the few at the end. It seemed like there were just more artsy photos of the dogs and puppies. But still a delightful little book.
Adorable Calendar!!.......2006-03-16
I am a huge Weimaraner fan, and so when I saw this I was so excited. The puppies in the calendar are just so cute! The pictures are great, with two pictures per month. William Wegman is an incredible photographer! I have seen other pictures of his, and the ones in this calander are fantastic.
Always good for a giggle!.......2006-02-25
As always, the William Wegman Puppies Calendar is adorable! If you love Weimaraner puppies - this calendar is a must!
Wegman and Weimerainer Fans .......2005-12-02
Have enjoyed Wegman's photography for 15 years. Loved Man Ray shots, loved Fay Ray shots, have followed Batty, Chundo, and the rest of the pack, including human boy Atlas. I was afraid the puppies calendars were going to be too cute, but they are not. Just sweet and absurd and beautifully strange.
Wegman Puppies - a little disturbing.......2005-10-11
Every year I buy my dad the Wegman puppies calender, and I bought this to go with it, thinking it would have some loveley photos in it, which it does. However it has some very disturbing photos in it also of situations puppies of that age should not be put into, and now I don't think I will be purchasing any more wegman products.

Looking at Wegman's clever photos gives me a smile every day. I always take pleasure in the innate dignity of the Weimeraner pups....nothing he does to them interferes with that!

Customer Reviews:
They are inexpensive for a reason!.......2005-10-10
If you like blurry photos of cute puppies, then these are the cards for you.I think they used the rejected photos to make these cards. They may not be expensive but don't waste your money.
Adorable Wonderful Notecards!.......2000-07-23
These are great notecards with beautiful classis Wegman pictures. They are a bit small which can be either good or bad depending on the size of the note you want to write. The box itself is cute and I plan to keep. I love them to write with and I think they make a nice gift for an animal lover.
You won't be able to use them!.......2000-05-11
At least, I couldn't. I bought it and stuck to it. I can't even think of using one out of 16 cards! They are absolutely beautiful and adorable. If you are thinking of getting this book to use the cards for real, well, save it. Get some other card books instead. Cause once you lay youe eyes on this book, you just can't bear to use them at all!

No one can resist the charms of a puppy. In photographer William Wegman's wordless ode to young Weimaraners, kids will see puppies in baskets, in planters, on the rocks, in the air, on blocks, and even in the doghouse. Babies love to look at faces (even the baby blues of other species), and Wegman's adorable, high-contrast photos are easy on the youngest of eyes. Arf! (Baby to preschool)
Customer Reviews:
So "Dog Garn" Cute.......2003-07-16
My one year old daughter loves this book. She constantly points to each dog and says "doggie". And now she is starting to point out their noses, etc. She loves this book so much it is about to fall apart and I plan to buy a new one to replace it. I have a degree in photography and was introduced to William Wegman in my photo classes.I have other coffee table books by him and am thrilled he has books and videos for children so my daughter can enjoy his dogs for years! A must have for kids and dog lovers!
SO CUTE........2003-01-27
I have the longer version of this book also, the one for adults ("Puppies"). There isn't much to say about these loving photo albums except that the photos are wonderful and peaceful. I like to have the Wegman books near my bed for when I am wound up and unable to sleep. They are very calming and sweet.
Love it.......2000-03-30
This is a good book, my wife and daughter love all the illustrations and pictures in it. This is a definate must buy for families who love dogs, my daughter looks at this book every night before she goes to bed and uses it to try to convince us to get another puppy.

Customer Reviews:
Classy!.......2006-12-10
The usual first rate and upscale publications that William Wegman always does. Lots of photos of adorable Weimaraner puppies playing, posing, and misbehaving. Photos are printed well, too, of course.
But what you can't see is that the covers are a kind of kid cloth, exceptionally soft and sensual, and probably similar to the coats of the dogs themselves! The title of the address book is also printed on the spine, and each letter of the alphabet has expensive thumb indentations in soft muted greens and neutrals. Out of print and hard to find now. Beautifully designed, highly recommended.

A Must For Researchers.......2007-05-17
As Continental forces and Virginia militia units were engaged in winning independence, American quartermasters and provisioners struggled to provide these units with all the necessities of life, from meals and guns to meat, fodder for horses, the horses themselves, firewood, and every other type of material. Much of this was requisitioned from the civilian population and certificates were issued payable in either continental or state funds, depending on the units supplied, upon presentation to court authorities. Thousands of these certificates issued to Virginians were duly entered by the courts, and they provide a fascinating insight into the period of the Revolution. These "Publick" Claims booklets contain interesting and useful information about the contributions of ordinary people to the Revolutionary War. They provide some details of people's service in the militia or as guards for prisoners of war; they indicate where some bodies of troops were at particular times; and they identify providers of horses, wagons, cattle, grain, or other supplies. Much of the information in these booklets cannot be found anywhere else, which makes the surviving records particularly valuable. Also remarkable is the fact that records survived from virtually every county in the state at that time with the exception of the newly formed Kentucky counties. This makes the collection even more valuable in covering areas which heretofore in this time period have suffered from a lack of personal data. The "Virginia Publick Claims" are published by counties. In addition to a faithful transcription by Janice Luck Abercrombie and the late Richard Slatten, a complete index is provided for each county booklet. This series is an extremely important genealogical tool for searchers in Revolutionary-era materials.

Book Description
For the first time, these two essential books on George Orwell have been brought together under one cover. The Unknown Orwell
describes the first thirty years of Orwell’s life—his childhood, the years at Eton and in Burma, and the struggles to become a writer. Orwell: The Transformation
carries us forward into the crucial years 1933 to 1937 in which Eric Blair, minor novelist, became George Orwell, a powerful writer with a view, a mission, and a message.

Book Description
It was the trip of a lifetime: we'd sail the Aegean on a 44-foot cutter, visiting turquoise Turkish coves and serene Greek islands that have escaped tourist hordes. But when terrorists struck at our homeland just three weeks before our departure, traveling halfway around the world; and closer to the impending war; seemed foolish to some. Could a group of Americans still enjoy a holiday at the edge of the Muslim world? Should we? Aegean Escape follows the voyage of four Californians aboard the T.G. Ellyson as it sails from the Greek island of Kos along the Turkish coast to Rhodes. What they found was a blessed respite from the anxiety gripping the U.S. As sun and waves leached the fear from their American consciousness, a welcome Aegean peace took root. From Turkey's Kalaboshi Cove and Loryma Bay, to the quiet Greek harbors of Tilos and Halki, the local people taught these foreigners a lesson in the essential human spirit: beneath it all, we are one.
