This book provides several ways of gathering and organizing information during the programming phase of design. This is not a book to sit down and read in an afternoon, but worthwhile of having in a reference library.

Beautiful.......2005-08-15
Duo is a beautiful collection of some of the work of Herb Ritts. While I have always found the models for this book, Bob Paris and Rod Jackson a bit cartoonish, the book is quite nice and presents the men is a favorable light.
pas de deux by Herb Ritts.......2000-05-20
It is a statement of how times have changed that photographic books of the male nude can now be displayed unabashedly in store front windows. That albums with male couples au naturelle should also feature is even more significant. Within the U.S., Austalia, N.Z.,or the U.K. there is hardly a gay man who has not heard of Bob Paris and Rod Jackson. This role model couple in 1994 released a bestselling detailed autobiography of their relationship and love affair. Blessed with good looks and intellectual curiosity the bestseller "Straight froom the heart" made them not only more famous but unofficial spokesmen for gay couples all over the world. Sadly it was not to last and they announced an amicable separation early in 1997. Prior to all this they willing made themselves available for a photo shoot as subjects for a portfolio by Herb Ritts, one of the most celebrated photographers of the male nude in America today. This photographic album "Duo" with its stunning photography is the outcome of that shoot and captures much of the beauty of the male form(a deux) at every conceivable angle. It must have helped the photographer that both his subjects are professional body builders. Every sinew and bicep does not go unnoticed or unpictured. I also liked that no colour frames were pictured and that the monochrome black & white seemed to give a more stark minimalist ambience to the background which placed more emphasis on the subjects in the foreground. It also appears to have been shot at a time when the two principal models were very much in love. Though most of the pictures are obviously posed there is no masking their obvious attraction to one another. This is the one main factor that has probably made this book so popular. Some human emotions you just cant fake. I recommend this album to all admirers of the male form whatever their sexual gender. There is no denying that some of us would sacrifice a lot for such perfect physiques but until that day arrives it is perhaps not inappropriate to have an olympian Adonis in ones mind to aim for.
excellent.......1998-03-10
Great photography. Very tasteful and beautifully done. It shows the beauty of the male human body, also the great tenderness between Rod & Bob. I admire their courage. They are an amazing couple. I envy their relationship & love.

Didn't Live Up.......2007-07-03
I absolutely love "The James Bond Lifestyle Seminar," but this audiobook fell short. The plot was decent, but nothing better than you'd expect based on the synopsis. The main character is supposed to be 33 years old, yet his voice sounds like an old man. He sounds very unsure of himself. Also, a lot more could have been done with the sound effects. They did not immerse me in the scenes, as another reviewer claimed.
I never wanted it to end!! Fabulous!.......2007-01-16
Mr Kyriazi's production of Hard Rock Lovers was just fantastic! I was on the edge of my seat on a daily basis! I put the audio book on my iPod and listened while I jogged. I gotta say it motivated me to get out there and I am so sad it is over! I cannot wait for his next Audio production!
The story is fantastic, gripping and sexy. I absolutely loved it!
Bravo!!!!
An all-star cast of my generation! I swooned over Rod Taylor and Robert Culp!.......2006-05-22
Wow! My sister pointed me to this audio book and I couldn't believe my ears. I just relaxed on my bed to listen and was absolutely delighted with the movie-quality of the sound effects. Not only is this a masterful, well-written plot, it's also a quality production. The best I've heard.
And those stars that the magnificent author/director Paul Kyriazi lined up for this special version of his book!!! Well, all I can say is that I remember swooning each time I saw any of them on the big screen. (I hope my hubby doesn't read this.) But when I saw Rod Taylor--who narrates this story, with such a come-hither voice--starring in The Birds with that gorgeous Tippi Hedren, I almost fainted. Yes, he was that much of a hunk ... and still is, according to my sister!
Incidentally, people used to say I looked like Tippi. Ah-hhh, memories ... But getting back to this audio book, I loved it to pieces.
Keep up the excellent work, Mr. K. You're terrific, and almost as handsome as the great Rod! Ciao, baby ...
WONDERFUL cast, beautifully performed, an EXCITING thrilling journey you won't forget!.......2006-03-15
From the moment Hard Rock Lovers comes on ... it takes you by the hand and mind, and immediately draws you into this intriquing story, narrated by the imcomparable Rod Taylor, of revenge, love, lust, cold reality and spiritual enlightenment.
Robert Culp kept me laughing with his perfect low-life agent performance, always the best! James Darren was the perfect rock star, mean, talented but sad, his performance was # 1. Ishtar Uhvana was great as Medusa, she added the sweetness to keep some reality in the rock world and her ending dialoque brought tears to my eyes. Loved Russ Tamblyn, George Chakiris was brilliant as the evil Reynaldo, and Nefta Perry as Connie played the perfect Rosie Perez.
The ending gives you hope and leaves you with happy feelings. You will want to play it again and again; it only gets better each time you listen.
Paul Kyriazi is my hero. I am his BIGGEST fan.
Thank you Paul for the fun and exciting adventure!
"Hard Rock Lovers".....Beautifully done!!.......2006-03-14
The "Hard Rock Lovers" audio book was not at all what I expected, but what a wonderful surprise! It's a twisted, tangled web of events played out by a handful of multi-leveled, intertwined characters. The story is well written, beautifully told and convincingly enacted centering on the heights of a successful rock star and the terrible costs that are paid when that success is abused. People and events are manipulated by all the characters to satisfy their own needs and agenda.
"Good" and "evil" are blurred. "Life" and "death" are blurred. Relationships are blurred, but the irony of fate is boldly presented and it's made abundantly clear that our "next" existence offers another chance to hopefully do better. The inevitability of change, the subtle and sometimes dramatic interrelationships between cause and effect as well as the ever-present, ever-looming scales of divine and poetic justice are persistent threads. A beautiful blending of drama and melodrama are used to develop both the story and the characters. The audio presentation is top-notch entertainment, particularly when you consider that all acting is accomplished solely through vocal artistry. The actors do a fantastic job of inviting the listener into their world and moving you effortlessly through the story.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. It is wonderful from start to finish and my congratulations go out to all involved. It's a winner on all levels.

Anthology of poems and songs about loneliness. Some of the poets & songwriters featured are: Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Phil Ochs, Robert Frost, e. e. cummings and many more.
Customer Reviews:
The many types of loneliness are described.......2007-03-15
Despite all of the people we encounter during the day, most of us are fundamentally lonely. Few of the people we encounter are little more than serious acquaintances and after our conversations, we all go our separate ways. Many houses now have privacy fences so that we don't even have to see each other at our leisure in our back yards. This book is a collection of verse and songs about that fundamental loneliness. There are songs by Lennon and McCartney, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Joe South. Some of the verse is by T. S. Eliot, W. H. Auden, W. B. Yeats, Emily Dickenson and Ezra Pound. All entries capture part of the essence of being human and a part of a community without being a fundamental cog. It is a sad reminder that even though we encounter more and more people each day, it is quality and not quantity that really has meaning in our lives.

Inspiring and Ground-Breaking.......2006-01-04
"This collection of inspiring and ground-breaking photographs by Tom Bianchi eloquently captures the love and joy shared by two men married to each other, portraying the relationship between former Mr. Universe, Bob Paris, and his mate, Rod Jackson."--© ZEBRAZ
unnatural.......1998-08-09
What does Bianchi's glorification of genetically "perfect" beings say to the rest of us who don't - and can never - match the looks of such sculptured, preening idols? Yes, I have a few Bianchi books, which I muse over as I would photo albums of Michelangelo Davids. Yet, I must wonder if the message given by Bianchi is a gift or a putdown to the readers who will, naturally, lack in themselves the exacting physical standards and fairy-tale love lives of Bianchi's worshipped man-gods. (Some "fairy tale," since Bob and Rod apparently split up. Perhaps reality DID intrude itself on those clones.) Is Bianchi saying, Look at these gorgeous men with their wonderful lives, you can never come close to this grand existence because your genes didn't work out. By the way, what happens when Bianchi-quality models grow (gasp!) OLD, or reach middle age? Do they simply disappear from the visual landscape like so many discarded wares? Are they dropped in the bargain! basement bin? Perhaps they all jump off a cliff when they reach 40 years of age...
High-class camp porn "art".......1998-07-30
This book, like all of Tom Bianchi's books, celebrates the perfect "beauty" of one, two, or several musclebound, narcissistic "hunks" - usually male models, but, in this case, two professional body builders, Rod (what a name!) and Bob Jackson-Paris. The loving couple have certainly pulled off one of the camp extravaganzas of the century with the help of Bianchi's technically flawless photography. It is hard to describe exactly what makes this book so ridiculous - it could be the cliched settings, the needlessly cloying and coy poses, the "Silhouette Desire"-paperback conception of love and romance, or maybe it's just the colossal hubris of the three men responsible for this exercise in total self-involvement. Bianchi's fascist adoration of Arno Breker-like bodies is embarrassing in its slavish, drooling lust, while Bob & Rod's antics will certainly provide inspiration for drag kings everywhere. Buy this book only if you want a reall! y good laugh, along with a product testifying to the sheer vapidity of fin-de-siecle gay "culture." Particularly ludicrous because its adolescent true-love-forever-fantasy has been completely invalidated, alas, by the couple's recent "divorce."

How Their Marriage Catapulted Them.......2006-01-07
"Former Mr. Universe Bob Paris and topflight model Rod Jackson tell how their marriage catapulted them from physique icons to international spokesmen for gay rights."--© zebraz
Wonderful love story which should be read by all.......2004-10-12
Yes, it is true that Bob Paris and Rod Jackson are no longer together, but their love story was still beautiful. This book captures the thoughts of two men falling in love, and as such it should help heterosexuals to understand that our love is the same as theirs. Our marriages are the same as theirs. We have about a THOUSAND obstacles to overcome which heterosexuals do NOT have to confront, so it is a miracle that any of our love stories have happy endings. Some do, this one didn't. But it still shows two beautiful and wonderful people who fearlessly plunged into the treacherous waters of love. Love is always difficult, but when you have the entire world against your love, it is at once more magnificent and far more difficult to maintain. This book should be read by EVERYONE.
A young (...)man interviewed recently by the Washington Post said he wished he could be straight so he could marry and have a long-lasting love like straight couples do. This poor kid had never seen a loving (...)couple on television or in a book. What does this say about our representation of (...)men in the media? They are not showing the true, full story. This book shows a bit of the untold story. (...)men DO have love stories just like straight couples. And some have marriages that last more than 50 years, just like straight couples. It is tragic that our (...)youth are never shown this by America's homophobic media, which won't even allow Will Truman of "Will & Grace" to have a date or a kiss on TV. Every public library needs this book to show these kids that love knows no sexual orientation.
I only give this book two stars only because...........2003-01-13
I only give this book two stars only because Rod and I grew up in the same hometown ( Windsor, Colo.), we are both orginally from Nebraska and went to the same church in Windsor ( with the same minister that was mentioned in this book, only this minister wasn't so accepting of my homosexuality as he was mentioned with Rod's homosexaulity in the book). It brought back the same strugles that I had with aceptance of my homosexuality that I had in Windsor 10 years later ( Rod in the late 70s. Myself in the late 80s).
I respect them both individually but as a gay couple on parade I don't subcribe to this approch ( when it comes to marriage ) that is stated in this book. It has been my experience that if you have to broadcast something this personal and this loud some thing is wrong with the situation.
My advice, If you are looking for a gay couples guide for a better marrige you won't find it here. This book is like a supermarket trade romance book that you see in the checkout line. If you want to work on your marrige work on your self first.
Oh man...What a story............2002-11-14
I have always admired Bob Paris for his health and fitness and was equally amazed at his coming out. It was a great testimony of rising above the homophobia of his industry.
This book was his and former partner Rod's on-going chronicle of the development of their relationship. It would have been great...had it been another couple. I mean no disrespect but this was the most co-dependent couple that has ever written a book about relationships. You may have to read it to believe it.
I was not surprised when they later announced their public "divorce." The formula for their relationship was a disaster waiting to happen. Perhaps Mr. Paris should write a follow-up book about what lessons he's learned from that experience. This would help others who have thought that his last relationship was something to be modeled after to learn that there is a much better way for relationships to run.
The book is an easy read. The content however is a little hard to swallow but it's a real memoir. It would be an interesting study on co-dependent relationships. Read this book for what it is--a memoir, not a how-to book.
Interesting Account of How Love Knows No Boundaries.......2000-09-21
Being one of the first gay couples in the national spotlight, Bob Paris and Rod Jackson were pioneers who paved the way for other well-known, and prominent celebrities to come out of the closet in order to gain great greater acceptance in today's society. While many gay celebrity couples such as Ellen DeGeneres & Anne Heche and Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher have come out together with little or no opposition from both the media and society. The story of how these two men came out is an inspiration to all seeking acceptance, regardless of your sexual orientation.
Bob Paris, who was one of professional bodybuilding's top stars and Rod Jackson, a former Playgirl Man of the Year, met, fell in love, and later went on to stage a ceremonial wedding where they exchange vows. "Straight From the Heart," is mostly an autobiographical account of their lives, from their childhoods to their present-day lives. Although Paris and Jackson broke off their relationship in 1997, their story is still an excellent account of what it is to be gay and famous in today's society.
The book can be a tad bit too lame when it comes to both authors giving each other accolades or affection. However, I was intrigued by both Bob and Rod's touring the country and speaking at universities, colleges, and at events about their struggle for acceptance and their advocacy for gay & lesbian rights. The tour opened up in my alma mater, Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where the authors faced a crowd that was both rude and anxious to hear them speak. I found that interesting because their appearance came a few years before I enrolled there.
"Straight From the Heart," is an interesting account of how love knows no boundaries. While Jackson hasn't been so visible in the spotlight lately, Bob Paris continues to be a best-selling author or fitness and gay studies books. He is an excellent author, as well as a fascinating individual. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to know what it feels like to risk everything in your life in order to pursue happiness with the one you love.

Amazon.com
Nineteenth-century African American businessman, activist, and educator Booker Taliaferro Washington's Up from Slavery is one of the greatest American autobiographies ever written. Its mantras of black economic empowerment, land ownership, and self-help inspired generations of black leaders, including Marcus Garvey, Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, and Louis Farrakhan. In rags-to-riches fashion, Washington recounts his ascendance from early life as a mulatto slave in Virginia to a 34-year term as president of the influential, agriculturally based Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. From that position, Washington reigned as the most important leader of his people, with slogans like "cast down your buckets," which emphasized vocational merit rather than the academic and political excellence championed by his contemporary rival W.E.B. Du Bois. Though many considered him too accommodating to segregationists, Washington, as he said in his historic "Atlanta Compromise" speech of 1895, believed that "political agitation alone would not save [the Negro]," and that "property, industry, skill, intelligence, and character" would prove necessary to black Americans' success. The potency of his philosophies are alive today in the nationalist and conservative camps that compose the complex quilt of black American society.
Book Description
Autobiography of influential spokesman and former slave who became a major figure in the struggle for equal rights.
Download Description
Vividly recounting Washington's life--his childhood as a slave, struggle for education, founding and presidency of the Tuskegee Institute, and meetings with the country's leaders, this book reveals the conviction he held that the black man's salvation lay in education, industriousness and self-reliance.

Very interesting perspective on slavery from someone who actually lived through it. All slave tales are not alike.

Well-written story of an amazing man.......2007-05-08
I knew next to nothing about Booker T. Washington prior to reading this book. Now I feel honored to have had his story shared with me. Despite the risk of sounding cliche, he has become an inspiration and hero to me. If not for his convictions and spirit, he would have been quite ordinary. Instead, he accomplished incredible goals, overcoming unimaginable feats, and has reached an inumerable amount of people, generation after generation. This book is a mainstay on my bedside table. Required reading for all.
Inspirational Autobiography.......2007-04-10
This autobiography of an African American intellectual will inspire you. See how Washington rose from nothing to hold a respectable place in American history.
Inspiring & Uplifting.......2007-03-29
The life story of Booker T. Washington was uplifting and inspiring. This shows that a person can arise from the ashes of their life, and make something worthwhile of themselves. Being born a slave was a major set back in their lives. Booker was determined to received and education at any cost, and he succeeded. Nothing was handed to him. Hard work and perserverance was the only way he could accomplish his goals.
Through turbalent times after the Civil War, Booker united the white and black race. Together they worked to build one of the finest educational institution in the south-Tuskegee, renamed Tuskegee University.
Book Description
Essential reading for students of African-American history, this collection represents three highly influential leaders. Washington and Douglass, both born into slavery, recount their rise from bondage to international recognition. Du Bois' landmark essays counsel a more aggressive approach to the civil rights movement.

Book Description
Aleksandr Nikitenko, born into Russian serfdom in 1804, almost miraculously gained his freedom as a young man, thirty-seven years before serfdom was abolished in the Russian Empire. His compelling autobiography -- here translated into English for the first time -- is one of the very few ever written by a former serf. Nikitenko describes the tragedy, despair, unpredictability, and astounding luck of his youth, bringing to life as never before the experience of a serf in nineteenth-century Russia.

A fascinating look at life in early 19th century Russia.......2001-10-30
What a fun book! The author tells of his life as a serf in the Imperial Russia of the early 19th Century. Admittedly, his was not the life of a typical serf--he was well educated, eventually being emancipated by his "owner" (and the description of this process is in itself fascinating). The great part of this book is in the details--the descriptions of the people, places, and interactions of his childhood; the reader cannot help sympathizing with his poor father who tries over and over again to make the best of his situation, yet is trapped by his social standing. This work is a great addition to the current understanding of life in Russia during the period.

Product Description
One of the most inspirational and moving autobiographies ever written. It chronicles the life of Booker T. Washington from his birth as a slave to his eventual triumph against the odds as he became one of America\'s leading educators and reformers. One can not but feel for him as he describes the horrors of his early life with complete honesty. This truly motivational book is an all-time classic!
Book Description
On the ninetieth anniversary of Booker T. Washington’s death comes a passionate, provocative dialogue on his complicated legacy, including the complete text of his classic autobiography, Up from Slavery.
Booker T. Washington was born a slave in 1858, yet roughly forty years later he had established the Tuskegee Institute. Befriended by a U.S. president and corporate titans, beloved and reviled by the black community, Washington was one of the most influential voices on the postslavery scene. But Washington’s message of gradual accommodation was accepted by some and rejected by others, and, almost a century after his death, he is still one of the most controversial and misunderstood characters in American history.
Uncle Tom or New Negro? does much more than provide yet another critical edition of Washington’s memoirs. Instead, Carroll has interviewed an outstanding array of African American luminaries including Julianne Malveaux, cultural critics Debra Dickerson and John McWhorter, and Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and radio talk-show host Karen Hunter, among others. In a dazzling collection bursting with invigorating and varying perspectives, (e.g. What would Booker T. think of Sean Combs or Russell Simmons? Was Washington a “tragic buffoon” or “a giver of hope to those on the margins of the margins”?) this cutting-edge book allows you to reach your own conclusions about a controversial and perhaps ultimately enigmatic figure.

Worth your time..........2006-02-15
Whether you admire, dislike or have barely heard of Booker T. Washington, he remains an important figure in American history and one, I dare say, many of us should know more about. Carroll has put together a very thoughtful and varied collection of work about him which is also the proverbial "good read."
Uncle Tom or New Negro.......2006-02-14
UNCLE TOM OR NEW NEGRO: African Americans Reflect On Booker T. Washington and Up From Slavery 100 Years Later, edited by Rebecca Carroll takes a look back at Booker T. Washington. It was a blend of those who feel that Booker T. Washington was the man with the right ideas regarding race relations in America and those who feel that he let African Americans down in his haste to placate the white majority of the time. His defenders stressed that he worked behind the scenes to push for civil rights and those who were not so enamored of him felt his contributions were lacking in that he stressed hard work for African Americans without pushing for equality as well. Some of the contributing writers were Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Ronald Walters, Earl Ofari Hutchinson and Debra Dickerson. Each presented arguments for their position regarding Booker T. Washington. Also included was the entire text of Mr. Washington's memoir, Up From Slavery, which was extremely helpful in digesting the arguments of the various commentators.
Ms. Carroll did a commendable job of getting together those who are pro Washington and those who have issues with his handling of the race question at the end of the 19th century. The book gives a wonderful overview of the issues surrounding Washington as well as a view of the times when he was successfully attempting to establish his school at Tuskegee. Whether you are for Washington's accomodationist position or against it, it is a book well worth reading for its historical value.
