I just got this book from Amazon.com and I'm already enjoying it. It discusses very well many details on the Jewish Museum Berlin by Daniel Libeskind. Great photos and floor plans are provided as great visual aids. You can really gain an appreciation for this unique building by getting this book.

      The photographs reminicent of Richard Avedon are excellent -- infact all photos are often framed like those of Avedon -- with the negative holders shown (albeit, they are digitally overlaid). The book also includes a collection of essays and diptychs of men and women (who happen to be porn stars). Each subject consists of a clothed portrait, followed by a nude photo (full frontals to 1/2 upper body shots). The concept of a pair of portraits, one clothed and one nude is facinating regardless of whether or not they are porn stars.

      The book also includes essays on the subject of porngraphy -- some written by [...], mainstream actors, porns star themselves etc on the subject of pornography. Most of the writings are uninteresting and I believe are included in the book to "legitimize" the portfolio so that this coffee table book can be taken as a collection of "serious" photography.

      I wish the photographer, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders had (ahem) "the balls" to simply captioned his work with a brief title rather than boring pseudo-intellectual babble in order to substatiate his work.

      More interesting than the essays are the short concise bios written by the pornstar themselves at the end of the book.

      Pornstars as people thats a first. Instead of erotic shots Timothy Greenfield Sanders chooses to show the inner beauty of both male and female straight and gay adult performers. I also recommend the dvd and cd soundtrack as both are excellent

      Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' book is more an art than a true 'Bare all' book. I say that due to the quality lighting and camera work -which is impeccable.

      Shooting nudes is the photography world is difficult - at best. The problem is everyone is different; Not to mention everyone wants to see the proofs before they are published. Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' taste is beyond quality. The prints are easy on the eyes; simple, digestible, and makes no mockery of the patient. It seems the doctor took good time to both adjust and arrange the patients. The end result is both incredible and very impressive. The photographed look as easy, open, and inviting as we've never seen them before; and that is the seller!

      This book is a winner - not to mention some interesting coffee table conversation! You'll be in charge of that one...

      Full disclosure: I know Timothy.

      That said, though, I was honestly astonished at the difference between this series and the photographer's previous essays -- especially in the color. There's a blushy or even feverish tone running through every picture, and it's definitely not just the printing. People here really look the way they do at the shows -- flushed, pumped-up, and raring to rock, or shop, or put clothes on or off, or whatever.

      Form aside, the content should make this book essential for anyone in or interested in the high-end garment trade. There are a few especially fashion-literate actors and other ante-camera celebrities here, but the emphasis is on people like, say, Kim Hastreiter or Stan Herman, who are immensely powerful in the industry but not often photographed, and then not usually very well. With all of these people together you get a vivid cross-section of what's really going on under the tents. Five stars.

      Mr. Greenfield-Sanders has done it again. After such an insightful 'look' into the world of adult film with XXX, I was so pleased to see he was able to do the same with the fashion industry. The portraits are beautiful and the essays certainly add to the experience.

      This is a well done, highly informative, interesting and at time humorous DVD. The production is excellent, it is fast paced, does have a documentary drag feel...it is snappy.

      Highly recommend this to photographers who aspire to produce highly quality nude photographs. Also people interested in how nude models and the photographer production team interact will be rewarded with a wonderful example of the craft at its best.

      "Face to Face" is a gorgeous collection of (mostly) color portaits of mainly artists and movie stars. Stylistically they are quite formal and traditional yet the minimalist neutral backdrop and the subdued/pensive look of the subjects gives the portraits a kind of modern quality.

      A kind of a hybrid of the colorful portraits by Annie Liebowitz combined with the craft and precision of Yusef Karsh and the simplicity of portraits by Richard Avedon.

      It is refreshing to see a photographer who does not need to resort to gimmicks to produce beautiful sober portraits.

      5 out of 5 stars One Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words.......2007-03-01

      There must be-- I didn't actually count them-- at least 200 portraits in Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' FACE TO FACE: SELECTED PORTRAITS 19977-2005 with about an equal number in color and black and white. While he shot at least one of them (Andy Warhol) with a 35 mm camera, most of the photographs were taken with a large format camera. Most of the models sat on a simple stool, were simply lit with one lamp to imitate natural lighting, and there was no emphasis on what the artist in his interview with Ida Parlavecchio ("Truth and Illusion Are the Same") calls narration and reportage. The subjects usually look straight into the camera and are completely relaxed. The viewer has no idea, unless he recognizes a model, what the subject's profession is. They are all "talented" people: artists, poets, writers, musicians, opera singers, art historians, architects and, yes, four adult film models (XXX: 30 PORN STAR PORTRAITS) are included here as well.

      In addition to the interview with the photographer, four other essays are included. While there is nothing essentially wrong with the articles-- and I read them all-- if any collection of photographs ever supported the cliche that one picture is worth a thousand words, this book will do it. You should certainly read the thoughful words of Mr. Greenfield-Sanders; then spend the rest of the time gazing at and admiring these portraits. When asked who was his favorite photographer, the artist said he only half-jokingly replied "Rembrandt. Certainly many of these fine works harken back to Rembrandt and the works of other portrait painters. There are no gimmicks here, no Diane Arbusesque tricks played on the subjects, no one photographed in an unpleasant, unkind manner.

      Some of my favorite photographs-- although the list usually changes each time I revisit the book and I do not always know why I like them-- are Steven Spielberg (p. 201) because he looks so relaxed with just the hint of a smile; the writer Toni Morrison (p. 195), because she looks so naturally regal; the film director Mike Nichols (p. 139); the actress Kathleen Chalfont (p. 179) and Sarah Ferguson, (p. 78) who is simply labeled "British Royalty" and looks almost as regal as Ms. Morrison.

      The book is impeccably printed and bound in Italy with the care that these photographs richly deserve.

      What a beautiful and fascinating book! For anyone at all connected with the art world or with an interest in portraiture, this book is required reading. Greenfield-Sanders is a master of his genre, and presents a true and engrossing cross section of the people who shape and have shaped our culture over the past twenty-five or so years. His vision is direct and brilliant in its simplicity, and this group of photographs will be one of the most important of its kind for the twentieth century and beyond. In short: get this book!

      I'm in one of the group shots in this book, so I'm an interested party, but even if I weren't I'd have to say that these are the definitive portraits of so many of my contemporaries (both famous and not or not yet famous) that a collection of them is long overdue. The printing and binding quality of this book, and its "bonus material" (essays, chronology, etc.), also help make it a necessary addition to any self-respecting art library. Five stars.

      Timothy Greenfield-Sanders is one of the great photographers of our age, and this extraordinary book of portraits places him among the true geniuses of the medium. These are more than great pictures; they expose the vibrant truth of their subjects. The portrait of William Burroughs, for example, is possibly the most brilliantly revealing study of a writer ever made. It is a shocking, even terrifying, achievement, because it reveals more of a man than one would have thought possible. This profound book is a journey in the deep forest of the human soul.

      Timothy Greenfield-Sanders is a skilled portrait photographer, and we've seen his work in magazines as well as museums everywhere. A monograph of his work has been long overdue.

      Unfortunately, we are still waiting for a GOOD book of his work.

      This book denies us the opportunity to see the pictures presented to their best advantage. "Art World" is jam-packed with hundreds of good portraits, but they are printed very small, six to a page, forcing the viewer fantasize about the precise detail and deliciously long tonal range that surely exists in the originals. The publisher is either clueless or cruel -- I'm not sure which.

      Greenfield-Sanders' first book should have been a monumental publishing event -- instead it's just an unimaginative catalog sure to frustrate those of us who admire his work.

                              This book is the premise for an excellent training provided by the author's company, The Brooks Group. Our organization has employed this company to further develop our Sales Managers, and use this book for 'homework' assignments. Applying the recommendations in this book, we have already seen improvement in sales results as Sales Managers are given tried and true tools to manage their sales teams.

                              My gosh...I have to say I am surprised at the decent reviews for this book. I am in sales, and have been an editor in the past. Not only did this book cry out for a good editor (compare Myth 11 and Myth 20 in the first chapter for only the most egregious of examples), I felt that the "New" Science was full of basic-level material that was, in addition, 97% completely misguided. I was really surprised to see that the author has "expert" qualifications, because this book did NO justice to my expectations. What a *serious* disappointment after what was promised in the confident-sounding Preface.

                              I don't think there's much of value in this book at all. I don't think it offers much to sales managers either. If you have been hired as a sales manager, either you are WAY beyond what this offers already, or you shouldn't have been.

                              Do you need to buy this book to find out that good salespeople don't automatically make good managers? Do you need to be told that the blockbuster secret to sales management is "coaching" and *gasp* "TEACHING?" And oh gosh oh my, our salespeople have to get along with others in the company! No, REALLY?

                              Wowwww. Truths for the ages. I'll just stop here, because I have to go on and spend my time on more deserving pursuits.

                              Sorry...I am just dumbfounded that this volume ever got published at all, let alone received the rating it has here. There are FAR better books on sales out there. Eeesh.

                              I have been in sales and sales management for over a decade and managed a division of 150 people. Never have I found a single resource like this book by Mr. Brooks that so concisely provides every bit of wisdom a sales manager MUST have to be successful.

                              If you are in sales management OR IF YOU OWN A COMPANY, you simply must purchase this book, study it and implement every last word of it. Your staff will thank you, your clients will thank you, and your healthy bottom line will be more than enough reward.

                              This book is not so much about the act of selling as understanding and setting the context for sales performance.

                              I've managed a force of 40 salespeople without prior experience as a salesperson. I didn't have the baggage of many myths (notable exception of people buy from people they like). It would have been great to have this this book. As it was, I didn't have answers, but knew enough to ask the right questions and was stubborn enough to drive past the rote asnwers.

                              This book is a validation of most of what we discovered in terms of managing sales people. It isn't brilliant, but it is very sound. Expect a lot of validation and some things that will be obvious after you see them.

                              We're in process of launching a CRM Sales Force Automation project. We're on track in terms of scope - delivering simplicity - but we're making some modifications to the qualification guidelines and the change readiness assessment based on what was in the book. Our bias in qualification was toward deal size. We'll be providing much better balance with decision making authority, time frame for purchase, urgency to resolve the need, and other factors (see Myth 5 - create a need and people will buy).

                              Sales performance is always in a context. We had 4 principles - speed and simplicity, the job of sales people is to sell, make decisions as close to the action as possible and we win as a team. We're adding more on accountability. This book helps avoid errors of omission because it is broad in scope.

                              Most companies do not have a systematic approach to hiring, training and retaining salespeople.
                              This book provides an approach that is tested to help sales managers implement this approach.

                              7 Steps to successful selling is a quick read, I was able to get through it in one evening.

                              I found the emphasis placed on activity rather than time spent to be useful, as well as the process for conducting sales appointments.

                              I was slightly disappointed in the reliance on referrals to provide prospects, while numerous authors discuss the importance of referral marketing-- it is clearly the optimal method; the method for gathering referrals given here is nothing new.

                              I do believe this is a worthwhile book to read, as you will get some useful pointers in it, it does leave something to be desired.

                              This book is perfect if you are in a situation where you can use a telephone to generate leads- any direct sales professional would benefit by reading this book. I would not strongly recommend it for a home based party business but it definitely teaches you how to successfully get a yes out of potential customers. This book is perfect for insurance sales, telemarketers, etc.
