Customer Reviews:
An excellent resource for conducting citizen consultation & engagement into neighbourhood development........2007-04-28
This book is the A-Z of community lead local planning. It includes 200 pages of concise and clearly explained principles, methods, example scenarios, forms, check lists, a glossary, contacts and other incredibly useful how-to resources. This manual is very useful for urban planning consultants, progressive municipal authorities and communities leaders that want to ensure the voice of the people who will be affected by local construction are part of the decision making process. Nick Wates writes from a perspective of real world experience with lots of practical tips for situations that vary from ideal community owned projects to last minute public consultation in a traditional city planing process.
"The Community Planning Handbook" is designed to be easily searched for ideas and practical direction in planning and organizing events, managing processes and establishing organizations to involve and empower citizens to give informed direction to the designs and implementation of changes to the architecture in their communities. The text is written from a UK perspective although there is considerable effort made to include photos and context from other nations, especially from rural villages in places like China, India, Fiji, Kenya and the Philippines. Jeremy Brook's graphical design is very user friendly with hundreds of illustrative photos, diagrams, time lines and information boxes.
Although "The Community Planning Handbook" is written within a limited scope of physical planning and design for villages, towns and cities, many of the principles, methods and suggestions are still applicable to other situations of participatory planning, such as public policy and organizational change. If you want to help manage organization and community efforts that are bottom-up, buy this book and keep it on your desk.
easy to follow.......2001-04-20
This book offers lots of general principles, methods and scenarios to help people who are interested in community planning as soon as possible to get involved. It also makes links between those principles, methods and scenarios with each other in order to make them more useful and easy to apply. The last part-appendices can combine all those above mention to a practice situation. This is a very useful handbook, in my personal opinion.

Book Description
Beautifully illustrating a path of self-discovery, Kaleidoscope~Artistic Techniques for the Creative Soul, awakens the body, mind, and spirit to the joy and wonder of the intuitive painting process.
The ability to create beauty is a birthright--an enduring gift of the creative spirit that resides within us all. Simply by honoring the wisdom of the intuitive self, anyone--artist or non-artist--can discover that wellspring of creativity to draw from, reflecting one's inner beauty in its expressive form.
Beginning with the very simple tools of paper, paint, and water, one is instantly encouraged to color outside the lines, to do what comes naturally from within. Intuitive art is not concerned with any specific technique, rather, it invokes the painter to become a part of the whole, to be at one with nature, in the process of discovery and exploration.

Book Description
With compassionate intensity and great heart, Brian Shawver, in his powerful debut novel, tells the story of Dennis Birch, a 34-year old failed major league ball player turned minor league scout whose field of dreams has always been baseball. No longer a candidate for baseball greatness himself-if he ever was-Dennis accepts the challenge of smuggling a hot right-handed pitcher out of Cuba in the hope that promoting the greatness of another will somehow confer a small, manageable portion of it on himself.
Birch's innocent belief in the rightness of his mission blinds him to some of the realities of it, and what seems at first to be a straight road to glory and his name on a plaque in Cooperstown, leads him into dangerous, sordid, and morally complex waters. As becomes excruciatingly clear, Fidel Castro's Cuba is much further from the Florida Keys than the miles marked on a map.
A novel of last-ditch hopes, destiny's curve balls, and quiet redemption, The Cuban Prospect gloriously projects a harrowing, yet affirming vision.
Customer Reviews:
Genius first effort by Shawver.......2003-07-08
You don't have to be a baseball lover to appreciate this brilliant novel. The game merely serves as a vehicle for the self-realization and adventure experienced by two men. The character development and descriptive style employed by the writer made the book a joy to read. Like most readers, I can't wait for Brian Shawver's next novel!
Thanks For A Great Read!.......2003-04-04
Thanks Brian Shawver for writing an excellent first novel. I would recommend to anyone interested in baseball, diverse personalities, moral dillemas, and communism.
Fantatistic storyline and believable characters.......2003-03-18
Wow! That is my first impression after reading the Cuban Prospect. I picked it up thinking it would probably be a humorous tale about baseball (kinda of a "Bull Durham" in Cuba), but it was so much more that!
It is the story of a washed up minor league ballplayer, turned scout who gets the assignment of sneaking a hot new prospect, Ramon Diego Sagasta, out of Communist Cuba. Along the way, the duo encounters everything from flying fruit to inept Cuban cops. However, while the story is entertaining, the true magic lies in the meaning of each man's journey (the end has a twist).
I found the main characters very real and very engaging. The prose the author uses is amazing and the smart recollection of baseball's past only adds to the enjoyment of the book.
For anyone who ever wanted so bad to be a part of something, but wasn't good enough to do it, read this book. As Ramon Sagasta will tell you, some people will do anything just for the chance to be a part of history.
Wonderful--savor every moment!.......2003-03-15
What a great book. Everybody should read the Cuban Prospect to come to an understand of the depths people will go to to live vicariously through the success of others. If you can't be a great baseball player, at least you can be remembered for your association with one - or at least that's what the narrator of this fine first novel thinks. His final realization that there is more to life than fame is poignant, as is the ease with which Shawver brings this brief book to its superb conclusion.
What a great book!!.......2003-03-12
I didn't know what to expect when I picked up "The Cuban Prospect" but from page one I could not put it down. This is a gripping story about one man's struggle to escape communist Cuba, and another man's desire to find redemption in someone else's talents. I highly recommend this remarkable first novel by Brian Shawver.

Kazan.......2004-11-30
Kazan, I first read it at my friends house, she had books 1-3 on her desk. They are seriously good, and keep you wondering about Kazan and what happened to his friend. Read it, you wont regret it.
Kazan.......2003-04-13
This book is so cool. Kinda nasty when Kazan kills a whole bunch of people but besides that it was cool. Fawna can make water from her hands...i wish i could do that...
MY NAME IS KAZAN YO AND NOT BE A LITTLE BOY!.......2001-12-30
Really, really, good. One of the best stories I have read, better then every movie i've seen, every book I've read. You'll love how questions develop in your head like "if kazan is 8, and that happened 10 years ago, what the?", you'll love it even more when your questions get answered. Buy this series now, who cares about the price, this series is priceless.
WONDERFUL!.......2001-12-21
Kazan is a truly beautiful manga. The art in this is some I've never seen, and I'm an avid manga reader. The plot and character devolpment are extreamly good. My friend bought this and me and my other bestfriend all fell in love with the series. It's something different the majority mangas (the shading is very dark is some places). The story is so good, and there isn't enough things I could say about it. I promise you, you'll like this manga if you take the time to read it! It leaves you asking questiongs specially as the story moves along and gets into the later volumes. I hope you really do enjoy "Kazan".
Kazan by Gaku Miyao.......2001-11-25
This series is incredable. The plot is amazing, when you think you have it figured out, it changes!!! You get into the story and can't put it down.
The art work is amazing as well. Very detailed.
The only bummer is it has been flopped,(since it is from Japan) so there are some translation errors in some spots. (I noticed this in volume 1)
If you like action and an awesome plot at the same time these books are for you.

A treasure!.......2007-03-19
I first saw this book at the public library and fell in love. The photos are wonderful and illustrate the process of creating beautiful gift baskets. Extensive directions are given and supply lists. I think that I could even replicate some of the gift baskets, and I am not that creative.
Jazzy Gift Baskets: Making & Decorating Glorious Presents.......2007-02-08
Great Ideas for outstanding gifts. This book has wonderful gift presentations. Thanks
Like this book, wish the products were available in the U.S........2006-11-10
I would have to say this book, unlike so many others, offers great ideas for modifying ordinary containers to create beautiful, unique receptacles for gift items. The author seems to be a jack-of-all-trades as she takes gifting to a whole new level. She not only enhances the baskets with paint, embellishments, weaving, floral design...etc., but she makes some of the gift products herself. The reader is offered a plethora of information from whitewashing baskets to manufacturing homemade soaps to be used as basket fillers. Her baskets are lovely and inspiring. My disappointment lies in the roadblocks I encountered in my attempt to purchase some of the items needed to re-create her baskets. I searched far and wide for a product she calls "floral foam," which will serve as an adhesive for the application of dried or silk flowers to a basket without that messy glue-gun string effect. I believe the author resides in the UK and her resource list suggests that her products originate there. My web resources came up short and I have yet to put her directions to the test.
All in all, this book is a great purchase if you are looking for basket ideas. She certainly motivates the reader to take basket design one step further.

Book Description
This is the true story of a savvy, tell-it-like-it-is New York columnist who takes on society's most powerful and most glamorous every day-but is ultimately redeemed by the love of a tiny dog who teaches her more about joy and survival than any human ever could. After The New York Post's Cindy Adams lost her beloved husband Joey, the last thing on her mind was finding a new companion. But that's exactly what she got when an unannounced visitor arrived with an unexpected gift-a Yorkshire terrier named Jazzy. Never having been a 'dog person,' Cindy was decidedly skeptical about whether this relationship was ever going to work. But that's the gift of Jazzy. The story of how this dog became her closest family member is told with the famous wit, the sharp observation, and the flair for celebrity dish that has made her column a must-read for years. By opening up her personal life in this revealing way, Cindy Adams has written a gift for anyone who's lost someone dear.
Customer Reviews:
It Is What It Is.....A Very Good Book .......2007-06-09
I found that this book was very entertaining and heart-warming. Cindy Adams wrote this story from her personal experiences. The funny antics of Jazzy, all the way to the celebrities mentioned, is her story. It is, what it is. If you like it, it's because it's a good re-telling of life going on after a loved-one passes, and how a little dog helped in the healing process. If you didn't like it, at least give Cindy Adams the respect and acknowledgement that she has the ambition to write a book, of which many people wouldn't even know where to begin with. At the very least, it doesn't deserve the nasty negative comments.
The Gift of Jazzy.......2007-01-04
I'am sorry I bought this book, it is not a good read
The Gift of Jazzy.......2006-11-04
Great book for dog lovers. Cindy Adams tells the story of losing a loved one and how a very small dog came into her life and captured her heart forever.
I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.......2006-04-17
Gift of Jazzy is really two books in one. The first one talks, with startling tenderness (which you wouldn't expect from Cindy Adams) about the cruelty of old age and sickness and the thoughtless stupidity of bystanders to it. After 40 years of marriage Adams's husband, Joey was physically breaking down and dying piece by piece it was incredibly sad. When her husband finally is gone the void was huge and friends decided to cheer her up by handing her a tiny Yorkie puppy-- Jazzy.
It shouldn't have worked out. Adams was depressed and cranky and brand new puppies need lots of attention but somehow it did and page by page the old Cindy Adams comes roaring back to life. I really enjoyed this book. The stories about Jazzy, life and work in New York and the foibles of celebrities are fun. If you love dog stories this one should be on your bookshelf.
Okay.......2006-01-25
Although I only gave the book 2 stars, I also have the audio CD and rate it higher because of the author's excellent narration. Since the author is a gossip columnist I enjoyed the celebrity tidbits. I also appreciated her sharing the ordeal of coping with her ailing husband and mother. This was touching as well as useful since most of us may have to deal with these situations at some time. Although she was sensitive regarding other people's conduct toward her husband, she does not appear sympathetic to others. Her general attitude is condescending. The theme of the book is about adjusting to her husband's death with the distraction of a new puppy. This provided some humorous episodes. However, she seems oblivious to the fact that her dog has similar behavior to that of other people's children that she dislikes and she herself has become like those parents that force their child (dog) on everyone assuming it is adorable. Because her love and energy was focused on a dog that didn't seem especially likeable it was: Much Ado About Nothing....
Book Description
“More than 45 one-page patterns, complete with color photographs and directions....Of inordinate help, even more so than the jars, are the ideas for filling the packaged jar....A good source.” —Booklist. “Turn a humble glass container into a great gift with dozens of recipes for instant-mixes and an inspiring array of embellishing techniques.”—Crafts’n Things.

Jazzy Jars by Browning.......2003-09-01
This is an excellent work for replicating decorative,
recycled, plastic and other types of jars. The author describes
how to utilize air-dry enamel paints, the surface preparation,
basecoats and lid decoration. In addition, the use of
acryllic paints is demonstrated for decorating lids.
A strength of this work is that it is easy to read. In addition,
the many diagrams depict the process of preparing jars in
accordance with various decorating techniques of preparation
and conditioning.
Fabulous!.......2003-01-20
Photos are terrific. The directions are detailed and easy to follow. Wonderfully, fabulous jars to create!!

"Julie Foudy knows what it's lie to wear gold: She has first place medals from the Women's World Cup 1991, the 1996 Olympic Games, and the Women's World Cup 1999. And she knows what it's like to play a grueling soccer match in front of thousands of screaming fans and to sign autographs for hours after the match is done. But that wasn't always the case, for only in recent years has women's soccer become a widely played and watched event. Julie Foudy's story is not just about great soccer games; it's about how one woman's determination helped change an obscure sport into one with millions of fans."
Customer Reviews:
Foudy is the best!!!.......2001-07-12
This book takes a look at one of the greatest female soccer players in the world. It gives an over-view of her life as she grew up and when she joined the Women's National Team. The book also has some very nice photos of Foudy in action. This is a good book for any fan of women's soccer and Julie Foudy.
