Page xiv states, "A copy of the Uniform Building Code is required to use this book," and that is the truth. I wish that information had been available in the reviews before I bought it. This book does not summarize the code requirements.

To the above reviewer who claims this tome contains no more than a checklist and was not useful to him, my response can only be that even Hamlet, tossed into the ape's den, will eventually become so much banana toppings.
Truly, it would take one of little imagination not to find application within these pages. I offer, as proof, this quote from page 79, "In structures having spiral or sloping floor, the horizontal projection of structure at any cross section shall not exceed allowable area per parking tier."
Ho! Could the Greeks have offered up truth any clearer? Could the poets in their infernal contortions of language have landed on surer footing than the UBC finds in those solid syllables above?
Here I offer you a work of man's pride and his humility, his ambition and his concern. Yes, your tribe may tempt God himself with your Tower of Babel, but by these pages I swear the foundation shall be laid symmetrical and unto a 3 or 4:1 ratio of density to units high depending on area soil composition and proximity to residential dwellings!
Fundamentally, a Check List.......2002-01-17
This book is a big check-list. Do not buy it if you are actually looking for building code information. However, it would probably be useful to contractors who want to be sure they have covered all bases. (I gave it two stars because it was not useful for me.)
A Must Companion for the UBC Code.......1999-06-02
This book makes an excellent Companion for the 1997 UBC Code. It is broken into section like the UBC code, each section has check list that can be used to insure compliance with the code.
The CD Rom in the back of the book allows you to print out check list that can be used in project files for documentation. An excelent tool for any design Engineer.

Stimulating analysis for intermediate watercolourists.......2000-06-06
This book gives analyses of dozens of the artist's luminous watercolours. Each painting is given a full page, with a facing page of details on the painting of the picture. The book is organized by type of subject. Unfortunately for beginners, this book doesn't have a guiding thread, and so I would recommend it for slightly more advanced painters. Fans of Ron Ranson should like this book.

This book was a terrible disappointment. Although it is clear that he knows something of painting in watercolors, the samples given were bland. Spread across the entire page that blandness became stifling. This book would work for a true novice but any one else should steer clear.

A Special Place in Texas History.......2000-12-25
Billy Porterfield either had the good sense to take great notes growing up or has a fantastic memory. Regardless, the result is a fascinating account of growing up in the oil patch of West Texas. Billy and his family moved twenty two times with his dad chasing those wild cat wilds of the past. Most of their travels were in a big Hudson Terraplane and whenever anyone asked where they were headed the standard reply was "Diddy Waw Diddy". Which a substitute word for whatever one wanted it to be...similar to Seinfeld's now famous yada, yada, yada.
This book is filled with belly laughs that will keep you turning the pages for more but the best for me was the story about the woman who left her husband until he built her a dream home. After a few months it's finished and she returns to the find beautiful three story home awaiting her. It wasn't until she walked into the front door did she realize that it was only 12 feet wide and the back was a drive-in movie screen.
This book is out of print but if you can run across a copy you'll find a very amusing look at the authentic life of families involved with helping to lubricate this country's industry toward the end of the Great Depression.

A (almost) total dud.......2006-07-17
i bought this book for my boss who is a very wealthy individual looking to establish a global real estate portfolio.
The description of this book made it sound like it would offer country specific real estate information on a wide range of countries. What is does offer is basically a bunch of readily available general country information (population, land, economy, etc) that once can find in any encyclopedia or the (free) CIA county guides, from which most of this book seems to have been copied. Only sporadically is concrete information of any use offered, such as restrictions on real estate purchase by foreigners, contract details, commissions, etc.
The real property secion of Australia is not even a half of a page in lenght! The real estate trends section (section being a gross overstatement) is one lousy paragraph!
In essence this book is one big disappointment.

The fluidity of transboundary waters perfectly represents contemporary challenges to modern governance. This book offers conceptual and empirical support for the idea that the human relationship with water must move beyond rationalist definitions of water as product, property, and commodity. Depending on context, water may be a security issue, a gift of nature, a product of imagination, or an integral part of the natural or cultural ecology.
