This book is filled full of great home plans. Lots of them.
Most (perhaps 80%) are typical suburban homes... ranches, Jeffersonians, nice, well designed suburban houses.
Maybe -- maybe -- 20% are what one typically thinks of as "retreat" or "getaway". Perhaps it's subjective... a cookie cutter house can be a retreat or getaway if that's what one uses it for. A good book with good plans, but most of them are more traditional than vacation (e.g., three or four bedrooms, formal living rooms, formal dining rooms, multi car garages, in-home offices, etc. are included in many plans)

Judith Joy Ross has been called one of the three greatest living female photographers in the world today. Her photographs in Portraits of the Hazleton Public Schools are exquisite. Absolutely exquisite. This book is a living testament to Ross's unique skills and her rare insight into the human soul.
Ross takes us into a backward journey into the schools of her youth in the impoverished area of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. There, she delves into the gritty environment of a poor public school system which provides the avenue of hope for a better life through learning. Her carefully crafted photos capture toughness with tenderness, mirth with steadfastness, friendship with alienation, but most quintessentially, rugged beauty. Exquisite. Underachievers of America.......2000-05-28
The three stars, however, are not in response to the work, which I would give a solid four, maybe even four and a half, but rather the shoddy editing job. The book gives a vauge sense of the range of Ross's work, including pieces from her Vietnam memorial, Allenown city parks, and public schools projects. The prints are well reproduced in tri or duotone but, the organizatin is akward and doesn't flow well. I think too, that in tyingto produce a small afordable volume, there was much left out and the piece as a whole suffers. Personally, I'd rather spend a bit more money for a more complete representtion of the work. It' worth it. Ross's photos are intriguing. They capture something of the clumsy, well-meaning, destructive, sad thing it is to be an American today. I had Judith for a photo class my third year of college and though I was perpetually late and presented wet ill-washed prints, she put up wth me with an air of amused and sardonic disgust that was almost parental. I can't decide wther she reminds me of her work, orif her work reminds me of her. Either way, she gave me a B in her class and I've been a fan ever since.

This books title reveals exactly what it says- Bookkeeping Made Simple. I understand accounting principles more easily now than I did during my unedgraduate degree, which I majored in International Business Administration-Accounting. I sit with my 4 year old daughter and she can comprehend the terms and principles throughout the book. I think I just created another generation of CPA's because of this book. He has great examples and nothing is confusing. If you purchase this book, read it cover to cover and then attend an accounting meeting you will know exactly what they are discussing. You will also know if your bookkeeper actually knows bookkeeping or has been leading you on. This book has definitely assisted me with becoming a more proficent bookkeeper!

Excellent basic bookkeeping book........2006-06-27
This book was puchased to teach a teenager the basic principles of bookkeeping prior to learning a computerized bookkeeping system. I have been "keeping the books" for businesses for 30+ years and feel it is important to know what the computer is doing behind the scenes. This book will help you to understand that. Both the teenager and I are very pleased with the logical and simple to understand explanations of bookkeeping. We especially like the worksheets which accompany the lessons. These give the student a feeling of accomplishment and help to reinforce the lessons.

I was a little intimidated by the topic. I used this book to help me get ready to take an accounting class in college. Wow! It really helped me. I took a accounting class in high school but did not do very good. I used this book and started to understand it. I could answer my professors questions in class. I got an A for the class! This book also showed me how to set up a excel spreadsheet which helped with my computer class. Cool book!

Dry, really dry and computer based? forget it.......2006-02-24
OK, I admit that bookkeeping and accounting are generally perceived as dry subjects, but this was a Really boring read (-1 star)
I don't find fault with the content, although some examples weren't very clear, it was straightforward and explained a lot of concepts and covered a full accounting cycle (+4 stars).
The book's claim to introduce computer-based accounting is a total handwave. They basically mention it and spend two pages explaining computer concepts in general, nothing specific to accounting with a computer. That was really disappointing (-2 stars).

This book only has a few business forms. Considering its low cost, it's not a bad book overall. I thought it would teach me how to do bookkeeping, but it basically just gives you a few business forms. I would not pay more than five dollars for it. The word "simplified" in the book's title is really what the book is all about entirely.
Only a workbook.......2004-06-15
This document (it is not a book) contains 4 pages of bullet point information regarding how to track receipts and disbursements, but in no other way provides information as to the hows and whys of bookkeeping.
The remaining 124 pages of the document are blank forms to be filled out.
The publisher should consider offering this document as a PDF for a per-fee download, and allow buyers to print their own blank forms as necessary.

It is designed to ease the burden of filing taxes by using balance sheets and profit and loss statements which are provided in this easy to use workbook. The balance sheet tracks what the business owes, such as debts, in addition to what the business owns, such as property and other assets. The profit and loss statement is used to keep track of money received as well as money paid out.
With detailed instructions for filling out the weekly expense and income record forms, employee payroll records, and other annual reports, this workbook is a must have for any small business. Though it is simply a workbook, small businesses could use this in place of creating their own documents for maintaining information necessary to run their business and also to prepare taxes.

I was just beginning my accounting principles class when I ordered this book, hoping to get a basic overview of bookkeeping. I have to say, I got more than I bargained for: the book explained everything I needed to know about bookkeeping, plus included exercise sheets to practice on, and it made everything simple for me. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn bookkeeping. I would definitely purchase more books in the Made Simple series because this book was a convincer.

I am an accountant and an instructor for our local college and adult education consortium. I use this book in my Basic Bookkeeping course. I find it to be very good in teaching the students the basics of bookkeeping and helping them understand what is happening in the background of an integrated accounting software program such as Accpac's Simply Accounting! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn the basics of bookkeeping.
