I am a Landscape Designer interested in historical architecture in the New England Area. The entire series of books by Peter Joel Harrison should be in every designer's library. They are an excellent source for restoration work, and a valuable tool when discussing ideas with clients. Anyone interested in beautiful garden details will be inspired by the wonderful drawings.
I purchase the original release of the fence and pavement books several years ago, and I now have copies of the updated issue. Updating to the newer editions is well worth it.

Peter Joel Harrison's books are full of accurate drawings of period fences, gates, gazebos, trellises, pavement and garden walls. They are tools for anyone who's restoring an 18th or 19th century home or landscape. They are perfect inspiration for anyone who hopes to infuse some of yesterday's charm into a new project. Harrison provides a valuable service to architects, designers, preservationists, landscapers and homeowners by researching, recording and presenting the details of historic homes and gardens. I've started using ideas from this book in my designs, and they are better for it.

Peter Joel Harrison provides a valuable service to architects, designers, preservationists, landscapers and homeowners by researching, recording and presenting the details of historic homes and gardens. His books, full of accurate drawings of period fences, gates, gazebos, trellises, pavement and garden walls, are tools for anyone who's restoring an 18th or 19th century home or landscape and inspiration for anyone who hopes to infuse some of yesterday's charm into a new building. I used Brick Pavement and Fence-Walls for ideas on some new garden walls in Richmond, Virginia. They look almost as elegant as Harrison's examples from James River plantations, and seem just right for their location.

Classic Manuscript of Brick Patterns.......2000-10-05

At first glance, the book resembles an ancient work by Palladio or other. The drawings are beautifully simple yet a bit coarse for today's standards. The book is made up mostly of patterns and elevations; text is limited to a 13-page index and a some explanations on tools and methods. Overall, the book is quite useful, but missing are the following: pictures, better diagrams, some data about the architect, etc.

Although the format is absolutely stunning (meant to resemble an old manuscript), this book is not for everyone. It should appeal to the designer, architect or contractor.

because this book is a SCREAM! Private Beetle Bailey and the cast of hilarious characters at Camp Swampy report to the forefront of the funnies once again! Sarge and his bull dog shadow, Otto really run Camp Swampy. Gen. Half-Track is too busy eyeing his office staff, playing golf and in general delegating duty to others. Lt. Fuzz is the company apple polisher and Lt. Flap is as unflappable as his name suggests.

The enlisted men are a delightful mix of very funny personalities. Killer Diller, with his romantic schemes, Rocky with his surly rebellion, Zero, the bunny-toothed rube and of course, Private Beetle Bailey leading the troops into laughter! You will learn the finer points in Sarge baiting, work dodging and AWOL without getting caught. There are several books on Content Management Systems (CMS). But there are only very few books on the market covering the topic of Digital asset management (DAM). Three books stands out:
"Professional Content Management System: handling Digital Media Assets", "Digitial Asset Management: how to realize value of video and image libaries" and "Expanding a Digital Content Management System: for the Growing Digital Media Enterprise".

Each book describes the subject in different perspectives. The "Digitial Asset Management: how to realize value of video and image libaries" by David Austerberry is more like introduction to DAM and related concepts and technologies. While "Expanding a Digital Content Management System: for the Growing Digital Media Enterprise" by my former collegaue and friend, Magan Authur is discussing how to plan and implement a large scale digital content management systems.

The Professional Content Management Systems by A Mathure and P. Thomas empersizes much more on (and deeper in) technical and applicaiton design aspects. Besides the basic concepts, it covers a wide range of topics on DAM from user requirements;video production use cases and workflows; media formats and standards; system architecture and integrations; hardware infrastructure and application requirements. The deepth of the discusions on systems architecture of both software and hardware are incrediable. The application modules and use cases scenarios presented for broadcasting industry are very well illustrated. The book reveals fully the authors vivid imagation, creative and industry experience.

Even though I may not completely agree with every piece of the design described in the book, some of the core concepts and use cases described are really valuable. (I have built one of succussful commercial enterprise DAM system used by by many large enterpises in broadcasting, advertising and Coorporate Marketing before this book was published).

I especially recommend this book to Product Managers and System Architect who are trying to build a DAM system; or trying to build applications on top of the DAM System. I have read ths book twice since I brought it over 1 year ago. It's still very refreshing to read it.

This book is best suited for IT managers whose jobs have removed them from the details of technology, and project managers who have high level technical backgrounds, but are given e-business projects to manager. As such, don't expect to find in-depth details or revelations that would primarily interest the technical specialists who design and implement e-business solutions. If you are among the primary audience, however, this book will get you quickly up-to-speed on the key issues of every facet of the technologies and the challenges of integrating and implementing them to achieve an e-business solution.

There are fifteen areas covered, the first two are contained in Part One and cover how to structure and resource an e-business project. While these two areas are somewhat general, they do address specific issues and challenges, which will prepare project managers for some of the realities of an e-business implementation project. In Section Two the project is broken into phases. These phases do not align to project milestones, but to technology areas covering major building blocks found in most e-business solutions.
