Book Description
In Nothing Less than Literal, Mark Linder shows how minimalist art of the 1960s was infiltrated by architecture, resulting in a reconfiguration of the disciplines of both art and architecture. Linder traces the exchange of concepts and techniques between architecture and art through a reading of the work of critics Clement Greenberg, Colin Rowe, Michael Fried, and the artist-writer Robert Smithson, and then locates a recuperation of "the architecture of minimalism" in the contemporary work of John Hejduk and Frank Gehry.
"Literal" was not only a term used by Fried to attack minimalism; it was a key term for Greenberg as well, and in both cases their use of that term coincides with discussions of the architectural qualities of art. Linder gives us the first thorough examination of the role that architectural concepts, techniques of representation, and practices played in the emergence of minimalism. Beginning with a comparison of the "postcubist" writings of Clement Greenberg and Colin Rowe, he reveals surprising affinities in their critical formulations of pictorialism -- including the use by both of an analogy between cubist collage and architectural space. This is followed by an account of the sharp differences between Michael Fried and Robert Smithson; Linder contrasts the sublimation of space and refusal of architecture in Fried's concept of the "radically abstract" with Smithson's explicit embrace of architectural thinking and his complex concepts of space. Finally, Linder looks at particular instances in the work of two architects who, through collaboration with artists, engaged the legacy of literalism -- John Hejduk's Wall House and Frank Gehry's decade-long fascination with the figure of the fish. Linder shows how the "productive impropriety" of transdisciplinary borrowing in the discourses surrounding minimalism serves as a counterexample to the prevalent perception of "disciplines" as conservative and institutionalizing.

Very nicely done!.......2003-03-26
This book serves as a very good introduction to the oriental methods and philosophy behind the art of landscape painting. The target audience is Western people. Wucius Wong did a great job in explaining the ideas with concise texts and nice illstrations. You can also find some very nice Chinese calligraphy used for the original Chinese terms he is explaining. Highly recommended!!

Book Description
Swiss photographer Bruno Bisang has been on a life-long artistic quest to document the unending, multi-faceted varieties of the feminine mystique. His photographs are more than mere idealizations of the female form. They are expressions of Bisang's desire to record the independent spirit of his subjects - international models and celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Tyra Banks, and Monica Bellucci. This collection of exquisitely observed nude studies is a luminous distillation of essence and form, "a record of women's radiance" that expresses Bisang's belief that "Every woman possesses a fount of femininity and unique sensuality".
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Work.......2007-03-25
This is my first Bisang Book, and I must say that I'm definitely impressed. I would recommend for anyone's collection who is looking for tasteful nude photography that can be left on your coffee table and not be ashamed for anyone to look through...
Fantastic Nude photography.......2007-02-20
I've got an entire shelf of books on nude photography, but this is certainly one of the best. No "average people are beautiful too" here -- all the models are gorgeous and well developed. The pics are in both color and black & white, and usually take up the full page. Heavy paper, large size, tasteful clear photos, and gorgeous women. Fantastic.
And he does it again!.......2006-03-31
Bruno Bisang must be considered as one of the greatest photographers of the nude, ever. I'd already owned and gushingly reviewed his earlier book "Photographs", and called it one of the best black and white art nude books ever. Then this baby comes along and demonstrates that he's as good in color as he is in monochrome.
The book is big, bold, and it's production quality is fantastic. Well worth the price. So many wonderful, and even challenging, shots here, Even the cover, when I first saw it (from the just the front) I thought, "Wow. Such great composition", and then I picked up the book and saw the image continued to the back and is a remarkable full nude showing the model's delightful body presently in a pose that dances on the edge of erotica while keeping itself in the realm of soft art nude. His lighting technique, his unique vision of composition, and his obvious sensibility of what is "sexy" without going over the edge is astounding.
I thought he was great when I saw the previous book. This one raises him yet further in my list of favorites. I cannot wait for the next one!
Definitely, one of the best!

Nice and Artisitic Photos..........2006-02-01
I liked the book. Plenty of nice pictures very artisitically done but still clear and pleasing to look at. Big size book with lots of photos that take up most of page.
Bravo to Bisang and Teneues!.......2005-02-19
Sensitively rendered yet erotically charged images of the female form, made all the more sublime by stunningly high production values. Oversize format, exquisite printing, and superlative content combine to make this a monograph instant classic.

Book Description
The black and white cinema of the 1950s served as an inspiration for photographer Bruno Bisang, whou found the lush, open sexuality of Italian film stars both liberating and intriguing. Now an internationally renowned fashion photographer, Bisang creates images that are alluring and provocative. This collection of portraits of the world's most beautiful women - including Claudia Schiffer, Iman, Monica Belluci, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks - conveys the magical essence of Bisang's beloved cinema.
Customer Reviews:
Near Perfection........2005-09-01
How any fan of black & white nude photography could give this a less than 5 star ranking I don't understand. From cover to cover, this book ROCKS. Mr. Bisang is an absolute world class talent and his images just relentlessly pound you with varying perceptions from subtle to blatant and everything in between. Without ever being even close to explicit, his images are infused with sexual energy, and his ability to pull this out of even some of the biggest name models & actresses alive is astounding.
Really a fantastic book. Hats off to Mr. Bisang and the publisher.

Great stylish photography.......2002-02-04
If you want some beautiful, stylish, nude fashion photography, that is not too experiental and yet imaginative then, this is the right book for you. All in black & white and feature only supermodels, you have great bodies that are photographed in a fluid, very dynamic way, full of energy, not like some static conventional posts, yet still capturing the simple beauty of the human body. Fully recommended for enthusiasts of nude photography.
You can almost hear her heart beat, her breathing.......2001-06-26
"This is Carla. This is Scarlet. This is Sandra." More than 30 years after Francoise Sagan and Federico Fellini wrote that opening to "Mirror of Venus" by Wingate Paine, Bruno Bisang presents a remarkably similar work subtitled "Whoever Touches Me Is Lost", erotic studies in black and white of heroic beauties within arm's reach. The books and the photographers share a wonderful sense of intimacy with the models, watching them in auto-erotic spells, sharing their space, so close you can feel their breath and the heat from their skin. Paine's work was almost all high-key, with a lot of playful gesture, laughing, and flirtatious. Bisang is much more focused on dark sex, playing with the conventions from men's magazines with shadowy lesbian overtures and self-loving models (including flopped-negative facing pages of Tyra Banks passionately checking under her jacket). There's a heterosexual encounter -- many little pictures -- near the end of the book and it's THAT close to NC-17, but lacking the one view that would take it to X. The work is mostly conventional, erotic, and very stylish -- again, much like Paine's of the last century -- making it a daring addition to the almost-polite coffee table collection. (There are no images of the feminine naughty bit.) An unfortunate feature the two works share is preposterous text. Paolo Pietroni's essay explaining the significance of the pictures is utterly lost on me, with his confusing and persistent mixed metaphor of the "complicity" of the "Hunter and the Prey". A minor annoyance is providing page numbers only on the few pages on which text appears. The index at the back of the book helpfully points readers to specific models on specific pages, but lots of page counting is needed to get from the number on a distant text page to an un-numbered image destination. Photo reproduction and paper stock are good quality and appropriate for the price.
nothing.......2001-06-10
i think that be nice more if u can add more photo at beach that is all from me, thanx
Beautiful and erotic.......2001-03-06
I've seen many albums covering erotic photography, and this one is one of the best. It's up there with Newton's and Kern's work. It's sexy, it's erotic, it's intriguing, and it'f full of real life, not some fabricated poses and stills. I recommend it to anyone, who's fan od excellent photograpfhy, beautiful women nad erotic feelings.

Customer Reviews:
Good Book but a bit dry.......2007-10-02
This is a dry but business-like book that presents all the essentials of strategic planning for public and nonprofit organizations. The book is well organized with concepts well explained. The book provides comprehensive coverage of the practical planning techniques and processes for those working for the common good. The author correctly highlights the critical importance of the link between strategic planning and leadership. John Bryson presents a useful planning process called "the Strategy Change cycle" which is a handy model successfully used in some public and nonprofit organizations.
This is a thoughtful, useful and helpful reference and guide book for those working in government, social workers or managers in non-governmental organizations. After reading the book, you will be clear about the differences between strategic planning process in the private sector and in the public and not-for-profit organizations. You will also learn how to reduce the costs of providing services whilst improving the quality of those services.
The book is well illustrated with insightful examples which will help practitioners learn about successful strategy formulation and implementation.
Textbook Review.......2007-09-04
I was pleased with the receipt of the textbook in a very timely manner. It was received within 4 business days. Also, no shipping fee, thanks for the savings.
dry reading material.......2007-01-08
This book, although required for the course I was enrolled in, was overall a waste of money. The reading material was very dry, making it a pain to follow. I learned more by showing up for class, taking good notes and involving myself in the group discussions, than what I learned from attempting to ingest the contents of this book.
Strategic Planning for Public and Nonprofit Organizations: A Guide to Strengthening and Sustaining Organizational Achievement, 3.......2006-11-03
Excellent public sector response to what we normally see as a business model for strategic planning. Very practical and easy to follow for all managers in the public service, non-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations doing charitable work for the common good.
A college textbook that has crossed over into the nonprofit world as a treatise for "non-students" on strategic planning........2006-09-05
I certainly liked this book a lot, but I didn't love it. Ergo, it gets a 4 star rating. If you want a detailed account regarding strategic planning, then read this book. It is well documented and clearly organized. Unfortunately it is boring!
The author is a college professor whose expertise is strategic planning in the nonprofit and government sectors. It certainly is normal to see a college professor take a subject and break it down into tiny parts and then build a textbook around describing how the tiny parts all fit together. In the case of this book, the author has broken the subject of strategic planning into tiny parts and called the combination of the tiny parts the Strategic Change Cycle ("SCC"). To see his nice diagram of the SCC turn to page 33 of the text.
After letting the reader see what the SCC is, the author then takes the rest of the book to explain the diagram and how all of its parts fit together. There are three sections to the book:
1. Understanding SCC
2. Key steps to using SCC
3. Managing the SCC process
Each chapter has a summary at its end. Someone who wants to get through the book as quickly as possible will start by reading each chapter's summary and then go back and skim through each of the chapters. Much of the content is common sense, so it shouldn't take all that long to read. However, there will be sections where you will probably want to slow down and digest in depth some of the material.
Leaders must be effective strategists if nonprofits are to be successful. And leaders use strategic planning and its set of concepts, procedures and tools in order to make their nonprofits successful.
In its simplest form strategic planning is all about knowing where you stand and knowing where you want to be. Then you "strategically plan" how you are going to get to where you want to be. What action steps are you going to take to move from point A to point B? This book will help you understand that process if you are having trouble with it right now.
