The Best Book on This Subject!.......2006-05-02
Though this book was written in 1987, it still remains one of the best (and only) books on this subject. Not just a collection of pretty cards, this actually goes into methods of making them, and why certain designs work and others don't. My only wish is that Eva would write a more updated version of this subject, as the market for it is very lacking.
great illustrations!.......1997-04-08
Gives any aspiring home greeting card maker the tools to spark your own creativity. Not written for those of us making our own greeting cards with our computers, but leads you along the way to writing your own verses and picking appropriate graphics to match. I read this from cover to cover the first night and will keep it close to refer back to whenever I need an inspiration! Great instructions and illustrations. Shows how to design any type of greeting card from humorous to sypathetic, from birthday to holiday, to any occassion you can name!
Thanks Eva!

it's selling something.......2005-08-05
Contrary to it's title this book is in no way a practical handbook. At first glance when you read through the introduction and part one, the instructions it gives sound easy to follow and it makes it seem as though all this requires is a grid and some mindless drawing of lines. But it turns out that it is the exact opposite. There are numerous rules to remember and different combinations that aren't allowed to be near eachother and the border area is where he really loses you, the structure of the border changes the rules for the entire knot all of which must be memorized unless you want to end up with a jumble of loose ends. It would be enough to say that it sounds quite viable in theory but is completely inviable in practice. I believe the main goal of this book was to sell the computer program that was developed by the author

Just got this book. Looks to be avery good manual, with lots of technical detail.
However, the 191 page book has about 100 pages in the middle devoted to somewhat superfluous examples of line intersections.
I wanted to let everyone know that the software is available for purchase at the author's home page: http://www.net-shopper.co.uk/creative/celtic/index.htm
A simple method to describe how Celtic knotwork is drawn........1998-10-19
This book helped me create my own program for creating PostScript knotwork designs, presenting the structure of the knotwork in a simple, regular manner. END
A good and interesting book........1997-10-09
I have had this book for about two years. It explains celtic knotwork construction in an easy to understand and enlightening manner. Two points subtracted for too much padding in the middle made up of not particularly useful graphs. WHERE'S THE SOFTWARE!! I WANT IT.
Book Description
"Striking images of a land renowned for its contradictions and variety as viewed by one of the great artists of our century."Houston Post
Henri Cartier-Bresson's record of his fascination with India over half a lifetime contains the very best of his photographs of that country. Beginning in 1947 at the time of Independence and produced during six extended visits over a twenty-year period, these beautiful, dramatic images are shaped by an eye and a mind legendary for their intelligent empathy and for going to the heart of the matter.
Cartier-Bresson's extraordinary gifts of observation and his famous "mantle of invisibility," as well as his good connections with Jawaharlal Nehru and others, allowed him to capture the quintessence of India. His pictures of Hindus in refugee camps after the Partition or beggars in Calcutta speak with the same passion and authority as those of the Maharaja of Baroda's sumptuous birthday celebrations or of the Mountbattens on the steps of Government House. Ample space is given to his famous reportages, such as the astonishing sequence on the death and cremation of Gandhi. But above all, it is the apparently ordinary faces and scenes from market, temple, or countryside that have the power to put us in direct touch with the spirit of a country and its people. 105 duotone illustrations.

Henri Cartier-Bresson in India.......2007-08-27
What a great book. Mr. Bresson is one of the great photographers of our time. The Images are emotional and brilliant.
I wish it was available in hard cover.
henri in india.......2003-06-21
the cover photo is a classic and the ghandi images just before his assasination are truly an historical treasure but the rest of the book should have been edited better by the publisher
Superb photographs but...........2003-05-02
Again this is a set of beautiful photographs by Cartier-Bresson. There are some superb pictures. My favorite is number 64 titled, "The Maharaja of Baroda distributing sugar balls to the poor...". What a contrast of emotions on the faces! Specially the look on the young boy who albeit begging still has a somnolent remnant of pride and defiance.
I was hoping to see more from the 1947 through 1956 era which was the beginning of free India. A beautiful book.
Will make an interesting addition to any collection.......2002-10-28
This book is the photographic record of Henri Cartier-Bresson's six extended visits to India. In addition to some rare pictures of difficult moments of Indian history, important personalities who defined the political scene, he also captures the quintessence of everyday Indian life. His lens conveys his understanding and deep regard for this country.
This book also includes a very interesting article on Hinduism by Yves Vequaud because, as the author says, "...many tourists who visit India today are still hidebound by the monotheism of their own religions and are apparently unreceptive to the philosophy which underlies a world very different from our own..."
This book would an interesting addition to any collection. But to think that you would understand India or become an armchair traveler by buying this book would be a mistake, since most pictures are from 1948, 1966 and 1950 (There are a few from 1947, 1980 and 1986). India has undergone significant changes in the past 15 years. A more appropriate book for armchair travelers would be "Spectacular India".
a worthy addition to your library.......2002-06-27
I recently purchased this book, as well as Cartier-Bresson's books about Paris and Mexico, and as much as I like the other two books, I think that this is definitely the best of the three books. Whereas the subjects of the other two books are of more of an artistic or sociological nature, the subjects of this book are primarily political in nature. Cartier-Bresson was in India in 1947 (as well as numerous other occasions) to photograph the turbulent times of the country. Some pictures are of Gandhi the day before his death, others are of his body on the funeral pyre. These images are spectacular. There are plenty of images of day to day life in India ( the most current being circa 1966) and these are quite nice - I especially like the photograph of the saris (which are about 5 yards long) drying in the sun. This is such a beautiful book- and it is much cheaper than a trip to India!

From the ancient to the modern, from the squalid to the wealthy, this is India.......2007-01-26
In the United States, diversity is now loudly and emphatically promoted. It is an integral part of the educational, business and political landscapes, worn as a badge of achievement and regularly mentioned in press releases. At times, it seems that people in the United States are acting as if they invented the concept.
Which is no doubt surprising to people in the ancient state of India. Not only are there an enormous number of different ethnic, linguistic and religious groups, but they are also extremely intermingled. It is the point of origin of several major world religions and is the world's largest democracy. This diversity has not been all positive, when India gained her independence from Britain in 1947; the sectarian riots were ghastly. Millions were displaced and it is believed that hundreds of thousands of people were killed by their fellow Indians.
This book is largely a photographic record of the years since India's independence. You see the squalor, wealth, diversity and optimism that is the essence of the Indian people. Modernity coexists with the ancient ways; there are pictures of oxcarts and nuclear reactors. Mothers in traditional dress stand next to daughters dressed in modern Western attire in upscale apartments. People are performing physical work in deserts and there are slums that look so squalid you can almost smell the stench exuding from the pages.
The term economic miracle is one that can be applied to India. Despite all of the difficulties since independence: wars, famine and civil strife, India has risen to the status of strong economic power. In these images you can see how difficult that struggle has been and appreciate the size of the accomplishments of the Indian nation.

Through the ages human beings have strived to record moments for posterity. This book is one in that chain and records brilliantly the beauty of the fleeting moment. Enjoy it is worth every cent of its price.

Savage Dragon is brought back to life in one of the most talked about storylines in this series' lengthy run!
Customer Reviews:
More Jonson, please.......2007-10-04
i thought this trade was very good. The reason i only gave it 3 stars actually had nothing to do with the quality, but the rather the quantity. Quantity of what? Well of the William Jonson/Dragon hybrid. The idea is admittedly similiar to other characters, but i thought it was cool, and i liked the costume design. Would've liked to see the idea/concept carry over to at least one more trade. Still, it was very well done. Also, if you've never read SD you'd probably need to read at least Vol.10 before reading this one, but i'd really suggest just getting them all.

Lucky Author.......2004-03-12
Andrew S. Targowski's book
This book is talking about the future vision of the IT universe and the global citizens (both are my words). It is a cool strategic architecture that perhaps will convince Zuckerman and Dewey fellowship du tactical architecture to accept and welcome the WS, XML and Java OO 32 holy patterns architecture. I mean by lucky author that most of his vision is almost materalized. One more thing I wished he addressed how to Jack Welsh of the future will red of errors. Book Description
The Gulf coast of Florida and Alabama is a fragile combination of barrier islands, low-lying marshes, and highly erodable mainland shores. In addition to sea-level rise, winter storms, and altered sediment supplies, hurricanes frequently damage or destroy the human developments and infrastructures that line this coast. Indeed, a single storm can cause billions of dollars in losses. Memories of such hurricanes as Camille, Frederic, Opal, and Andrew cause great concern for residents and property owners alike; events of equal magnitude are always just beyond the horizon and the uninformed have much to lose.
The authors of Living on the Edge of the Gulf seek to counteract potential loss by providing an illustrated introduction to coastal processes, a history of hazards for the region, and risk-reduction guidance in the form of site evaluations, community mitigation techniques, and storm-resistant construction practices. Risk maps that focus on individual coastal beaches are designed to assist property owners, community planners, and officials in prudent decision making, while a review of coastal regulations helps owners to understand and navigate various permit requirements.
This latest book in the Living with the Shore series replaces the earlier guide Living with the West Florida Shore and supplements the Alabama portion of Living with the Alabama/Mississippi Shore.
