The wonderful molding and modeling qualities of polymer clay celebrated inspirational designs and practical projects.
Customer Reviews:
Arty Polymer Clay.......2003-03-26
The projects in this book are more of a modern artistic
way to use polymer clay.
I really enjoyed reading about the history of "clay".
I find the projects interesting and different.
I do plan to make the Cactus Candleabra though. It
intrigues me.
We have an art district in my area..I plan to make it and
place it in one of the stores. I think it would fit right in.
Its ok, but not the best.......2002-10-14
A lot of the projects in this book are very different. It doesnt go into great detail in describing how to make the project. I wouldn't recommend the book for beginners.
A Pretty Project-Based Book with Excellent Front Matter.......2000-08-21
Polymer Claywork is a project-based book, but what is most interesting about it is its front matter. The projects themselves range from fun to a bit dull.
The book includes both a section I've not seen in another PC book - a short history of PC - and a lovely gallery. The history was fascinating for me, since I'm rather new to PC, and answered one of my long-standing questions (what does Fimo mean?). And the gallery was, sadly, too short, but inclusive and inspiring. Those two items alone were worth the lower-end price of the book.
The projects themselves, while attractive, don't always include new techniques or new ideas. They range from extremely basic to somewhat complex. Most of them are of the home decorating or knickknack variety, with a few basic jewelry or bead ideas. One interesting facet of these lessons is the mixed-media aspect; there's rather more of this in Polymer Claywork than in most books - projects like tassels and hand mirrors, for example, with both PC and non-PC components (other than findings).
This book is hardcover and stitch-bound, which is really nice. I haven't had it very long, but I suspect it will hold up to standard use better than many of the PC books available. It's also attractively priced; many of the softcover project-based PC books are more than this one.
A nice, attractive book, and one I'm happy to have, though perhaps not essential in a PC library.
If you love polymer clay...you'll love this book!.......2000-05-01
This new addition to my library is a real winner. It's colorful pictures, step-by-step instructions, and inspiring ideas really inspire the new polymer clay artist...and the experienced alike. It's range of projects from bronzed jewelry to an awesome magnetic theater lend instructions which can be applied to the clay enthusiasts imagination for other projects. A real keeper!
Book Description
Walker Evans (1903-1975) ranks with Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen, and Paul Strand as one of America's greatest photographers. When originally published in 1994, Walker Evans: The Hungry Eye was the first book to survey every significant aspect of the artist's oeuvre. This reduced-format version, identical in content to the previous volume, includes 300 beautiful duotone photographs.
Evans was largely self-educated and began photographing regularly in 1927, using a small hand-held camera. He specialized in the life of the street-carefully observed views of American architecture, the roadside, and the people who lived in the nation's cities, towns, and villages. Beginning with Evans's early abstractions, continuing through his three-year involvement with the Farm Security Administration and his breakthrough exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and concluding with the artist's experimentation with color late in his life, Walker Evans: The Hungry Eye remains the most complete and authoritative view of this American photographic master. AUTHOR BIO: Gilles Mora has been editor-in-chief of Cahiers de la Photographie since 1981. He has written essays for two collections of Walker Evans material. John T. Hill, a friend and colleague of Evans and the executor of his estate, has coedited three book collections of the photographer's work.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2005-08-18
This book is very informative of Walker Evans. It shows a wide variety of his work form portraiture to architecture, from the streets of New York to exotic places. It not only shows the works of art but also shows short blurbs about the place he was at and what was happening in his life; like why he was there and what he wanted out of the photo shoot.
The part I like best about this book is that it references whose work he was admiring at the time. It also references his feelings, whether it was something he hated or something that was inspiring him. The print of the book is also very representational. It shows in great detail the contrast and depth of the works of art. I give the book 5 stars. I really enjoyed reading the book.

The best book on this important issue........1998-04-25
This is a must read for anyone interested in getting prices right. The debate over prices concerns both public policy and pure economic research. The Boskin Commission claimed that the CPI overstates inflation and recommended that measures of inflation be ajdusted to correct for this. This recommendation was quickly embraced by many in the economics profession. It has also had an impact on public policy debate, particularly as regards indexation of social security. The first half of the book presents the Boskin Commission's findings verbatim, and supporters of overstatement are able to speak for themselves. The second half presents Dr. Baker's deconstruction of the Commission's findings. One part of his criticism involves the presentation of technical arguments and instances of CPI understatement. However, the most compelling part is Dr. Baker's reconstruction of recent U.S. economic history using Boskin's implied measure of prices. He shows that 50% of families were apparently living below the 1994 poverty level in 1960. This is implausible. Protagonists of the debate will no doubt continue slinging instances of over- and understatement of prices at each other. However, until supporters of CPI overstatement can explain away Dr. Baker's findings about implied poverty levels, their arguments will ring hollow.

Customer Reviews:
Great resource for beginning grantwriters.......2004-05-26
When I first became interested in grantwriting, I bought this book and committed it to memory. The book gave me a base of knowledge that I used to get my first fundraising job a few months later. I've now been doing grantwriting for five years, and I recommend this book all the time to newbies. The language is clear and straightforward -- and easy to grasp.
waste of money.......2000-02-25
This book was nothing but a dissapointment..Did not get me any closer to a grant than I was before I read the book..
A Great Primer for How To Obtain Free Money.......1999-02-25
A great beginning resource for finding the sources behind all the "free" money that is out there. Blum has taken a great idea and invented a whole category. You'll have to do the heavy lifting, but she takes you through the steps and points you in the right direction. Smart person. Great source.
Very good reference for a the beginer looking for grants.......1998-10-18
This book helped me understand how to go about looking for grants. Also, moderatly helpful when learning how to approach proposals.

Customer Reviews:
Good book.......2007-04-22
I teach a class in fundraising and I use this book as my text. Great book, good examples. It's a comprehensive introduction to development for non-profits.
I'm Excited About This Guide to Fundraising Management.......2006-02-27
Even though I have not been able to read the Guide in full or use the CD Rom, all the special topics I have checked out thus far have been highly informative. I especially like the detailed charts and exhibits which provide an "at-a-glance" guide.
Having been a management consultant for 15 years, although not in the Arts Funding Area where I now toil as a volunteer, I have a good eye for serious data. And, having read several other books on the subject of nonprofit organizations, I can honestly say this book by Stanley Weinstein provides the kind of nuts and bolts data that is essential to fundraising.
Finally, since I had to pay for this Guide out of pocket, I can honestly say that I feel I got my money's worth even at this early stage of the fundraising process. It's a winner.
Please give me an opportunity in the future to provide another review...after our fledgling group...The Westlake Arts Center in Westlake, OH...implements some of the suggestions.
Thorough, well-researched.......2004-12-30
Weinstein does a good job representing the many facets of fundraising development today. The CD-ROM is a helpful addition. Highly recommended.
Excellent overview for novice fundraisers.......2004-08-04
I'm new to the fundraising/development field. I found this book very readable and informative. The subject is presented in a style that is intelligent and no-nonsense, unlike a lot of the "XXX for Dummies" and "Idiots Guide to XXX" series.
There is a nice little CD-ROM in the back with sample Word doc files on it. I wish there had been a few Excel spreadsheets too. I come from a sales background and found some of the advice for what to say to potential donors to be a bit ham-handed.
But, overall a great intro to fundraising with a lot of good advice that nonprofits should follow.

Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive Resource- Excellent Book!.......2007-10-05
I ordered this book because it was required for a graduate class that I was taking, but I found it to be an excellent resource. The author provides numerous examples for how to apply the material, but also provides additional internet resources to access other information in the field of nonprofit management and fundraising.
I would definitely purchase additional resources from this author again.
Great resource.......2007-04-22
I also use this book as a textbook in a fundraising class and the students consistently rank this as a great learning tool and resource that they will use in their careers. Excellent real-life examples and practical knowledge on every aspect of non-profit fund development.
Text Book for Fundraising Newbies to Experienced Professionals.......2005-10-24
Using this book as "the" textbook for a UCSD Extension class on Fundraising Introduction and Processes; The course is the first required course for a Certificate Program in Fundraising and this is the text book selected. Very in depth, overview of fundraising, annual giving campaigns, special fundraising events, planned giving, grant-writing etc. Covers it all in depth and simple to understand. Great book! Plus its way cheaper thru Amazon than in the UC bookstore ;-)
Good fundraising resource.......2004-12-30
Ciconte's book is insightful and thorough. This new edition is especially helpful, especially for the purposes of this reviewer, when it comes to Internet applications and computer programs. A well-written and fairly current fundraising resource guide.
Excellent and A Solid Complete Guide.......2001-07-15
Having read and used fund raising books and materials for over twenty (20) years, I am very impressed with this book. It is excellent, very thorough, and covers all major areas for an organization's fund raising program. I highly recommend that every non profit organization own a copy and use as a reference guide on a regular basis. Its truly solid and complete.

This book was great!.......1998-12-31
The book had wonderfully simple, step by step directions on how to raise a lot of money through events, including how to create a budget, how to recruit participants, and how to make your cause compelling. The information in the book could apply to almost any event. Very practical, yet powerful information.
