Book Description
Introduces the techniques that painters must master before sky and sea can be rendered with authority.
Sky takes up much of the space in wall and ceiling murals and paintings in interiors and on canvas or paper, and the atmosphere it creates can be intensified by the representation of water. Step-by-step instructions, examples, and suggestions for design make this an ideal self-teaching manual for decorative painters and artists. Color illustrations throughout.

This book is an excellent how to for the mural artist in training. The authors explain composition as well as technique. Illustrations are to the point. It is an excellent teaching book.
Trompe L'Oeil Sky and Sea.......2007-01-31
This is an excellent book for learning techniques for painting both sky and sea. Insightful for the beginner with tips about what qualities and subject matter make a Trompe L'Oeil painting both believable and timeless.
Instructional.......2006-07-03
If you are a mural painter, you will gain a lot of knowledge from this book. It has many step by step instructions along with photos of completed work. I particularly liked the instructions on painting water.
interesting book.......2006-06-30
I'm glad I bought this book. It has beautiful artwork and gives me ideas for my house. It also explains how to bring the room into the painting so that it looks like you could walk into the painting.
The only thing that I didn't like about the book is how they refer to murals that are not illusionistic as 'naive art'. That bothered me because everyone has their own style of painting and not every mural is meant to look like you can walk into it. It was kind of a pompous remark in my opinion.
Overall, the book has beautiful paintings, a lot of information on how they did the paintings, and is very inspiring.
A wonderful beginning artist's guide.......2005-12-05
Sea and sky are the trompe l'oeil painter's favorite and best motifs for modern interiors, and here Ursula E. and Martin Benad provide artists with easily-followed introductions to painting clouds, waves and seascapes. Patterns, examples, and tips cover both large and small formats for walls and ceilings, discuss the challenge of perspective and special lighting, and gauging color intensity and effects. Packed with color photos and illustration examples, Trompe L'oeil: Sky And Sea is a wonderful beginning artist's guide.

Roy Lang's "sea and sky in oils".......2007-09-19
I have always been confused when trying to paint sand. A wonderful example of this is explained.
The waves in this book are painted and a great explaination follows.
Sea and skies made easy!.......2007-09-12
I'm a self taught weekend painter when the mood strikes, so trying to figure out some aspects of painting techniques has come after many hours of trial and error; as it should be. Self discovery in painting is one of the most rewarding of experiences a painter can have. All those "I get it experiences" when you see something come together for the first time!
I've never done a seascape before and I releasied the need for some help in the matter! This book looks as though it can do the trick and am looking forward to trying Mr. Lang's techniques!
After finding this on Amazon I looked for it locally at art stores and found it. As soon as I opened the book and leafed thru the pages I felt there is more than enough info and help for me to give it a go and try it for myself! Perhaps I'll update this review AFTER I finish a seascape!

Book Description
John Constable is arguably the most accomplished painter of English skies and weather of all time. For Constable, the sky was the keynote, the standard of scale and the chief organ of sentiment in a landscape painting. But how far did he understand the workings of the forces of nature which created his favourite cumulus clouds, portrayed in so many of his skies over the landscapes of Hampstead Heath, Salisbury and Suffolk? And were the skies he painted scientifically accurate? In this lucid and accessible study, John Thornes provides a meteorological framework for reading the skies of landscape art, compares Constable's skies to those produced by other artists from the middle ages to the nineteenth century, analyses Constable's own meteorological understanding, and examines the development of his painted skies. In so doing he provides fresh evidence to identify the year of painting of some of Constable's previously undated cloud studies.
Customer Reviews:
Essential reading for all John Constable enthusiasts.......2001-07-04
John Constable is arguably one of the finest painters in the history of British art. John Constable's Skies: A Fusion Of Art And Science is an impressive compilation of his sky and weather paintings, against which John Thornes (Reader in Applied Meteorology and Director of the Atmospheric Impacts Research Group within the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham) provides an extensive and informative meteorological framework for reading "the skies of landscape art". Thornes analyses Constable's meteorological understanding and enhances our understanding and appreciation for what Constable was able to achieve with his art. John Constable's Skies is essential reading for all John Constable enthusiasts, and an important contribution to study of British art history.

Customer Reviews:
Even Rich Daddy is better.......2003-09-23
Another shameless self-promotion with no substance. Push his newsletters on your face like a used car salesman. Even Rich Dad, Poor Dad disguise itself better than this. Don't waste your time and money.
Better books on this subject.......2001-10-17
This book was okay and it did have a few good ideas. But overall it was more of a marketing ad for the author's products then a book. I would choose another book on the subject of mail order business instead of this one.
Tyler is a class act, this is another one of his good books!.......2001-05-12
This is a good book for anyone who wishes to start a mail order home-based business. It is even very useful to someone who is already experienced in the mail order trade like myself!
Great Book and Informative.......2000-05-23
An informative book. I had to write a review because the other reviewer has a totally negative and unimportant opinion. Yes the author does advertise his products, but he gives you valuable information all the same. In fact his offers could be useful to someone getting into mail order. It is a completely legitimate book. I am in no way affiliated with the author. The book is packed with valuable info on all aspects of mail order. Packed with lots of detailed tips to help out the budding mail order business owner.
Not a book, but an advertisement for the author's business.......1999-10-05
What a disappointment to purchase a book and be left with a 315 page advertisement for the author's business. There is no thin veil to disguise the author's intentions. In fact, on page after page there are blurbs about the author's get rich quick schemes. In short, this should not be sold to people as a book. I had a great laugh at the bibliography entitled " Profit Building Tools from Tyler hicks ( the author) International Wealth Success Library. Hand picked by the author.

Prosperity Forever.......2001-07-31
This book is an easy-to-read handy how-to guide to permanent prosperity. It clearly shows you how to use debt and stock options and general public exuberance to paper over structural problems and let financial instabilities grow.
I recommend it to everyone.
