      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent choice for landscape sketchers.......2002-05-19

First, I must say I enjoy the physical dimensions of the book. It is tall; it is wide; it is thin. This makes a good sketching instruction book almost from the beginning.

I like to doodle, and I like pencils. I like trees, and I like scenery. What better than a pencil-drawing-book-about-trees-and-scenery? What can I say.

The techniques used in this book are extremely helpful, even for no-skill Joe like myself. I bought it probably three years ago, and it is still helpful. I've even learned to draw things I never thought woudld really make much of an interesting sketch idea--rocks! Rocks on the ground. Boulders, pebbles, hunks of volcano spew.

My favorite section is trees, which I love to pieces. Incredibly tall, majestic trees, been around for ages past since I was a wee munchkin, and standing proud for my appreciative eye. The bark detail, the leaf patters, the height, the large variety.

Draw desert canyons. Sketch drifts of clouds. Compose your own tree of might. Create a majestic oak or a finely detailed rotting log. Swoosh your pencil to form trees in the distance, and vegetation nearby. Perhaps a dainty little cottage or country church nestled in the pine slopes of a towering rock formation. With the instruction that will bless you herein, what limit can there be?

It`s a pleasure know more about Dr. Taylor. and his new work. In his book. "Telecommunications Demand", Dr. Taylor show in a very interesting way the link between theory and practice in applied econometrics and the demand theory.

This new book "the Future of the Telecommunications Industry..." contains a great contribution to the scientific progress about Demand Theory in Telecommmunications,I Think was developed for researchers, students and managers that have a medium knowledge about the telecom market. Whatever the skill of the book isn`t to hard, specially to the practice.

2 out of 5 stars Time for a New Editor.......2005-09-19

I made it through the first 50 pages of this book, after which I returned it because of the mistakes in its text and at times poorly worded review questions. For example, this book lists Washington state as a state that allows tenancy by the entireties, which is a method of property ownership by a married couple that is legal in some states (see pg. 48, 7th ed., copyright 2005). Washington state does NOT allow tenancy by the entireties as evidenced by my Washington state specific text book I received from the pre-licensing course I am taking here in Washington, "Tenancy by the entireties is not recognized in community property states such as Washington, and it has been abolished in a number of other states as well." (Washington Real Estate Fundamentals, pg. 31; 12th Edition, Copyright 2005; Rockwell Publishing). Dearborn Publishing also puts out a book entitled "Washington Real Estate Basics" which also indicates that Washington does not allow tenancy by the entireties, "Because Washington is a community property state, tenancy by the entirety is not recognized." (pg. 62, Copyright 2002; Dearborn Financial Publishing, Inc.). I believe this is a clear example of poor editing. It is one of many examples I could provide from this book. Pre-license books have a lot to say about real estate law and general facts about the business. It is imperative that the books are accurate for obvious reasons. While I'm sure much of this book is accurate, I have lost trust in the accuracy of the book which causes me to question every assertion it makes. In my opinion this book needs a better editor and perhaps more responsible authors, and then it would likely be quite helpful. Until then, you should be prepared to be at least partially misinformed if you rely on it for your pre-license education.

If you need books similar to this, Dearborn Publishing seems to have good books on the subject. For example, "Modern Real Estate Practice" is a great start. They also put out a study guide (lots of practice questions to test your retention) and an audio CD set both of which accompany this title and help one review the information (by the way, this is the only audio CD set I've been able to find on the basics of Real Estate; it is just a review of the material as opposed to indepth lectures, but that's better than nothing). They also have many pre-license books specific to given states. Amazon carries many of their products, but if you want a full list of their Real Estate books/materials, (...)visit their book store, then come back to Amazon to buy'm as chances are you can get them here for cheaper! Also, check the schools in your state that provide pre-licensing education (make sure to find a good school!), as chances are they will provide you with a text book that is accurate. Good luck.

2 out of 5 stars Do Not Expect to Pass the California Brokers Exam By Reading This Book Alone!.......2006-07-15

I just passed the California Brokers Examination on my first try. I am an attorney and have no real estate background and I do not have a real estate sales license. (In fact I hated Real Property in law school and avoid practicing in this area.) I read a few primer books including this one to see what would be on the exam. I read this Barron's book all the way through and answered all of the test questions. I the took the Real Estate Trainers Course in Santa Ana, on the advise of a girlfriend who is a broker and who took their course. They offer a crash courses in LA, Orange County and in Northern Cal. I took the course, read the big book they give you; did all of the exam questions (Over 1500); attended the crash course seminar twice and took the test. The courses and practice exams Real Estate Trainers gave, made the test easy.

When I took the Real Estate Trainer's Course I realized that this Barrons book is only good to lay out the general areas that are on the actual test. However, you can not use this book alone to the pass the test. The questions in this book are too easy and don't reflect how hard the questions actually are. You can use it for general information purposes only but some of the areas in the Barron's book overemphasis areas that the actual test spends little or no time on.

In that the pass rate for the exam is between 30 and 38%, I would prepare the best you can. Save your money and find this book in the local library and check it out. (Many libraries have it.) Read and take a brokers exam course.

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Book.......2006-03-17

Like the previous reviewer I studied this book in detail, took all the exams which totaled over 1000 questions, scoring over 90% on each exam and still flunked the Broker's Exam. This after having passed the State Bar exam for attorneys on the first try. This book did not cover even 10% of what was on the exam. I emailed the authors and they never responded. This book is a complete piece of garbage. You cannot count on it for anything.

2 out of 5 stars Basic Fundamentals, but not sufficient exam prep .......2006-02-14

The questions in the theoretical exams do not reflect what you will find on the actual test. If you use this book alone to prepare, there is a good chance you will fail the exam. In general, the questions will help you to grasp some fundamentals, but you will need to go over some more realistic test questions to prepare.

1 out of 5 stars Not for the exam.......2005-12-20

I studied this book for my first broker's exam on December 14, 2005 at the Pasadena Center and failed. I solved and reviewed twice all the chapter problems and all of the exam sets in the book. I was very confident that I could answer correctly on all the questions in the book. But the questions on the actual exam were nothing like the ones in the book. The questions on the actual exam were much longer and harder. They required much deeper knowledge than what the book presented. It was like the authors never have seen the actual exam. This is a real estate knowledge book, not an exam prep book. I have wasted my time and money because of this book. What could an exam prep book do worse if a book not only does not help, but also misleads about the actual exam? Please do not buy this book to study for the exam. This is a shame on the famous name 'Barron's'. Do not be a victim like me. Hope my and my family's suffer would do some good by letting other people know not to buy this book.

1 out of 5 stars No Help for AMP exam.......2005-09-02

I bought this book to study for the Illinois exam, which is administered by AMP. I am a licensed attorney with a background in real estate law, so I figured the exam would be a breeze as long as I read this book carefully. While I passed the exam, I was not happy to see the breadth of topics that turned up on the exam that were not even mentioned in this book, and also chapters of this book that were irrelevant. A lot of the uncovered material was general Real Estate law, and was totally ignored by this book. I would spend your money on something that focuses on your specific exam, Borders had several books that focus specifically on the AMP test and looked much more in line with what I saw on the exam. Also note these books don't cover state law at all, you have to buy another book for that, or try printing out all the statutes and using them.

The most treacherous part of the appraisal exams is the calculations and no book other than the Tirone book does the field in a manne rthat you can easily understand. The Tirone book lays things out truly in a step by step manner. and, add to it that Tirone can be called with questions on the calculations in the book, etc, it is pretty much a must for all of us who are taking the appraisal and brokers exams.

1 out of 5 stars Hard time using this to study.......2003-03-14

I had a hard time using this book to study for the appraisal exam and didn't find it useful to me. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

      4 out of 5 stars PASSED BROKER'S W/88%(LAW) AND 83%(GENERAL)1st time.......2000-11-19

One example of this book's superiority is its section on mortgages, financing residential properties, and on possible forms of ownership. I have been in the real estate industry in one capacity or another since the early 70's and this is the best book presentation I've seen. It is concise, easily understood, but contains a lot of information. My only frustration with the book was that as it was not state specific, I had to rely on a local publication for that which was full of errors and inadequacies so I had to constantly also go to my law dictionary and business law book and text books from my paralegal courses to refresh my memory on details specific to my state. Granted, I may not be 'usual' as I am also a paralegal etc. but on the other hand, I only reviewed for parts of 2 1/2 days, so was relatively satisfied with my exam scores.
