I was a little disappointed by this one. The photos are often not sharp enough to really bring out details. Also, most of the Americal colonial and early 19th c. details pictured are in New York so you get a good look at styles from the region, but not a broad overview. My biggest complaint though is that so much space is devoted to reproduction or historic-inspired details rather than the real thing.
If you're looking for an idea book for adding historic-inspired touches to a home, this is a good choice. As a source for restoration, I think it falls short

All my congratulations to John Morley - he has provided an enormous volume - full of lush illustrations, good background information and a great browsing volume of Regency Design
Following what is popularly known as teh extended regency, or late Georgian period John Morley uses the period of 1790-1840 which covers the end of George III's reign (and the regency period of 1811-1820), the reign of King George IV, William IV and first few years of Victoria. This early part of the century is the start of the great industrial years, the increasing population in Britain, and increasing wealth.
What I loved best about this book is its easy reference. It is divded into four sections, Parks and Gardens, Exterior Architecture, interior decoration, and Furniture. Within each section looking at the formative incluences, styles, and how they manifested.
Each chapter has good explanatory commentary, and is well illustrated. The only other book I can really compare this to is one I have read by Steven Parrisen which also done excellent works on Regency architecture. This book covers a great deal more in one volume which I felt allowed a broader depth of understanding of the style. It would be really nice to include two other sections (I think) one of food, and one of clothing. I daresay to do that there would be a great deal more to have to add as well and this book would need to double in size.
Nice reference book, good for browsing through too.
Regency Design.......2000-09-26
John Morley's Regency Design offers a wealth of information for anyone seeking an indepth resource on the Regency Style. The organization of the information makes it easy for the reader to follow and locate specific areas of interests. Parks, Gardens, Exterior Architecture, Interior Design and Furniture are all included with generous amount of illustrations. Morley's Regency Style is now in my company's design library as the recommended sourch for Regency Style research. I highly recommend this book for design professionals, instructors and anyone interested in the study of classical styles.

The famous Sons of Texas series. This is the first book in that series and it was good. Cole Callaway is completely stressed out by life. As head of the family and Callaway enterprises, cole has a lot on his shoulders. It all gets to be to much and he takes off out of an important meeting and winds up on the beach. The last thing that Cole expects to find is a son that he never knew existed. Cole discovers that his one and only love who he believed walked out on him fifteen years ago had his child and never told him. Now Cole must deal with the past and the woman he never got over. He must deal with the present-his new found son Tony. There is also someone out to hurt his family and Cole must step up as head of the family and be there when tragedy strikes. Cole wants to start thinking about the future, but it is not going to be easy. Nothing in Cole's life seems easy.
Annette Broadrick presents us not only with a story about love, but also a strong story about family. I felt for all the characters-not just the main ones. I can not wait to read about all of the Callaway's.

The third Callaway brother in the series is Cody. Cody is the mysterious younger brother of Cole and Cameron. No one knows what it is that keeps Cody away for long periods of time, but for their protection Cody can not tell them. Cody insists he is not the marrying type. He was more than suprised when Carina Ramirez shows up in his Mexican hotel room to warn him that someone is going to kill him. Before they can escape they are kidnapped, and if things were not bad already, they are rescued by Carina's older brother. Alfonso believes that his sisters innocence and reputation are ruined by her time "together" with Cody. Now the man that claimed to never marry was about to be forced to marry Carina. Cody has always been an honorable guy, so for Carina's sake, they marry. The question is can Cody and Carina make a forced marriage work. Also, there is still the matter of Cody's job that keeps him away for long periods of time and forces him to keep secrets from his wife.
This story in the Sons of Texas series is yet another terrific love story, but it also wraps up the mystery surrounding the problems and accidents that have troubled the Callaways.

This is the first Sons of Texas book that I have read. I know that there are several that come before this and there are several that come after it and I plan to get them all. I really enjoyed this book.
Tony Callaway is a plain old rodeo cowboy destined to make it on his own. His fathers family is rich, but Tony refuses there money and because he never knew his father growing up he refuses his father as well.
Christina O'Reilly comes along hoping to learn more about her family history. Because she was an orphan herself she is interested in genealogy. Christina is very different to say the least. She has a van of 'odd' animals that she carts with her and she is very inexperienced. Here she is in her twenties and has never been kissed.
Tony at first thinks that Christina is odd, but soon finds himself falling for her. Christina has a lot to learn and Tony is very interested in teaching her.
This story has intrigue, romance, and comedy. There are several laugh out loud moments in this book. It is a quick and fun read that I am sure lots of people will enjoy.

Michman and Mazze present five key variables that retailing executives in nine specialty businesses must understand and work with, to gain and sustain competitive advantage in their competitive environments. Innovation, target market segmentation, image development, physical store decor, and human resource managementf are identified and examined. Michman and Mazze find that successful specialty retailers are not all things to all customers, and do not try to be. They are, however, the first to apply new technologies. Authors analyze the development of specialty stores in the U.S. and tie their variables together in an epilogue.
