The increasing interest in Islam and Islamic culture during the last century and the early part of this century created a demand for an encyclopaedic work on Islam. For the first time in history a truly international team of scholars began working on one single project. This resulted in The Encyclopaedia of Islam, published in three editions in English, German and French. The Encyclopaedia of Islam remains to this day the only complete encyclopaedic work on Islam. Due to its tremendous success these editions soon went out of print and became valuable collectors' items. Some years later, the publisher decided to start a New Edition, which is now well over halfway to completion. In view of the broad scope of the New Edition and the years needed to complete it, E.J. Brill's First Edition is now available in paperback to meet the immediate needs of scholars, students of Islam, librarians, and even government institutions, in fact, anyone interested in Islam and its rich culture. The paperback First Edition is intended to fill a gap at a very low price. The First Edition is a true mine of information, much of which is not yet available in the New Edition. The value of the First Edition (as well as the New Edition) is recognized worldwide and remains undisputed. In more than 9,000 alphabetically arranged articles, varying in length from 50 to 50,000 words, the whole range of Islamic culture, from religion and literature to the lives of famous Muslims, is treated by some of the world's most famous scholars of the twentieth century. The First Encyclopaedia of Islam was originally published between 1913 and 1936 as The Encyclopaedia of Islam: A Dictionary of the Geography, Ethnography and Biography of the Muhammadan Peoples in four volumes and one supplement volume.

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ISLAM is by far the most exhaustivereligious encyclopeda ever developed. Only about two thirds completedthe work is already generally recognized as one of the greatest collective achievements of History of Religions scholarship. With the CD-ROM edition now available for instutions and scholars the availablity of this masterful reference work will have an even greater diffusion and influence than it already has. Also Brill is dedicated to providing timely updates to all registered owners as they become available. The result of decades of research and work, Brill's THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ISLAM is generally considered as one of the major scholarly enterprises of this century. Its sheer size and scope are enormous. Its millions of words and thousands of articles contain a true mine of information of immense value for any student and researcher of the Islamic world. This renowned reference work is now available on CD-ROM. We tested the individual edition in English and found the work useful. We did have some problems with installation but Brill has provided quite clear online help. As a research tool THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ISLAM CD-ROM has all the advantages of electronic searchability with a number of unique advantages that unlocks its great wealth of detail in this reference work and thereby enhances research. It facilitates easy and efficient searching throughout this huge body of information. THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ISLAM CD-ROM (EI CD) contains the volumes 1 to 9 (out of the prospective 13 volumes) and includes a large amount of figures, line drawings, genealogical tables and maps. THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ISLAM CD-ROM makes use of cross-referencing hyperlinks in a way that has never before been offered in electronic publishing. Furthermore it contains indexes with hyperlinks to the main text. It allows for extensive, fully searchable bibliographies in English, and also offers advanced searching possibilities in Arabic transcription. This book is a must if you dont remember much from your classes. The refresher course is straight to the point, and the tests on the computer really help out ALOT. If you can pass the tests on the cd, passing the exam is easy.

I found this book to be very helpful. I especially liked the glossary of terms and the condensed review in the middle of the book. I used the CD exams as practice for my test to get used to the computer format. I passed both parts on my first try and I think this book helped me do that.
REAL ESTATE EXAM.......2007-01-21
This is more helpful than the college courses I had. The college courses are required, but this is a definite "must have" before taking the test.

Preparation for Texas Real Estate Exam.......2006-03-11
While this book and several others I read helped me pass the Texas Real Estate Exam, I found several minor and at least one glaring error in this book. Also, the CD that accompanied the book did not load on my Dell Dimension 8250 computer. I tried it on my Dell Inspiron laptop computer and it loaded, but it was very sensitive/unstable, advancing through questions I had not answered.
Good Start -Common sense approach, but you need ALOT more.......2005-06-24
If you think this book is the answer to get you through the Salesperson exam, you're wrong. It will help with studying and the practice exams on the CD were worth while. But, you will still need your TREC text books and LOTS of time to read and study. I set aside a few hours a day for 2 weeks solid and I barely passed. I don't give the credit to the book, but to the time I spent on studying my other texts in addition to this text. Good Luck!
I Passed On The First Try.......2005-02-22
This book was recommended by a friend whom I was taking RE Classes with. I truely feel had I not bought this book, I may of had to take it a 2nd time. 3 Days before the Exam, each day I took the full State & National Trial Test on the CD Rom that is included. I then reviewed each question whether I had missed it or passed it...this took about 2 1/2 hours a day. I feel this built up my tolerance for taking a long test. I rate this 5 Lucky Stars.
