How can the content of this book be described. Is it a mixture of thoughts gleaned from various parts of the Bible? Is it a hodge podge of information that the author tries to convey to the reader? Is it nothing more than a scrapbook that contains ideas and experiences? Perhaps it is a collection of mistaken perceptions that has no real place in the world today! Perhaps this book amounts to nothing and deserves to be filed in the trash can immediately. Whatever may be the reader's thoughts about this book and previous books that I've written, I offer no apologies. If the reader has been offended, I want you to know that was not my intention, but I do offer blunt assessments of the religious community as I perceive it to be. Realize that I write from my own perspective, my own personal experiences, and my own personal beliefs, however right of wrong they may be in someone else's eyes. I do not encourage anyone to believe as I do. Everyone is at liberty to arrive at their own conclusions. My intentions is provide information for consideration.

I consider it a challenge to thumb through Scripture and draw attention to various parables, episodes and verses that are contained in the Bible, and then write about that material by commenting and asking questions. Asking questions is the most basic means of communicating with other people and it was what Jesus desired form those whom he taught. Many questions that I ask I have no idea as to the answer, but the questions are asked to provoke thought and create discussion. Once can only imagine where thoughts may lead, and that, to me, is exciting!

I would like to emphasize an important expression that I have written below and also written again later in their book. Albert Einstein is considered by many as a highly intelligent and knowledgeable person in the field of physics and mathematics; in fact, when he discovered the theory of relativity E=MC, he was declared a genius, and rightly so! For me, though, I delight not in his scientific equation, but in his simple statement:

Imagination is better than knowledge!

A charming, clear guide. In less than a week, I have set up my work space, had my supplies shipped and completed my first painting session. Very instructive and readable "how-to" book........2001-03-21

Mess painting, a component of the Creativity Mobilization Technique, was developed almost half a century ago by M.D. and authority on autogenic training, Wolfgang Luthe. A student of Luthe's, Virginia Barclay Goldstein has written an extremely clear and instructive how-to manual for prospective mess painters. Everything you need to know to get started painting is in this book, including a recommendation of where to get your paint. I am halfway through a 6-week mess painting class and have found it to have subtle yet profound effects. I routinely remember my dreams after a mess painting session and am enjoying a practice where no effort is required. If you enjoy colors, you will probably like mess painting. (An interest in flower (vs. vegetable) gardening is often an indicator that you will like mess painting.) While participating in a mess painting class is helpful and interesting, Goldstein's book is precise enough in its instructions that you could easily paint on your own and experience many of the beneficial effects of mess painting. One word? Awesome.

If someone want to see colors then he better look for pictures of parrots, rainbows, snakes, bugs, peacock, children etc etc.

The books is best example of photo journalism. In photo-journalism, no one look for colors or sharpness or distractions in pictures or cropping or placement of subject in picture. Definitely they are nice to have but if picture is telling some story then it conveyed its message it completed its job. Period.

I really believe this book fell way short of the mark.Other than taking a few snapshots with a point and shoot camera,I am not a photographer.You don't need to be an artist to enjoy art,a musician for music,a writer for literature;but when arts are well done, they should enthrall the public.While there are some of the more famous photos of the past 150 years,there are many that are just run of the mill.The book gives a history of photojournalism,it does not give the impression that the photographers have really anvanced the art.One even gets the feeling that the introduction of color has made the photographers lazy,trying to let color do the work for them rather than using it as an artistic tool.I don't really believe that is the case;it's just that the auhors haven't done that great of a job,in my estimation.With the writers access to the photos that Time must have,I get the feeling that very little effort or ability went into this book.Let's hope someone else will give it a try and do a better job of it.

For decades economists have assumed that poor countries can't support capital markets. This book puts the lie to that. Its wide-ranging exploration of twentieth-century financial institutions reveals that poor countries can't develop without capital markets.

From currency management in Russia in 1918 to financial liberalization in modern-day New Zealand and Chile. The case studies of this wide-ranging exploration of financial institutions show that bridging the abyss between barter and a fully convertible currency is no less essential to economic prosperity today than it was eighty years ago. Sound and stable currencies have been easily eroded by government interventions; repressed, fragmented financial systems have been their corollary. Undoing this damage and reestablishing the strength of a currency is far more difficult, as the recent experiences of Argentina and Chile can attest.

As explained in this volume, capital markets were not always critical to development. Through the nineteenth century, when the United States and other developed countries were getting that way, central banks were the exception and appreciating currencies were the rule. Today, central banks are the rule and appreciating currencies are nonexistent. So it is that capital market institutions and instruments that did not exist before the twentieth century are now required for development. Hence this book's attention to the development of securities markets and the promise of equity finance in poor countries: in a study of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, as well as in a comprehensive "how to" and "how not to" guide for establishing new equity markets.

From the author: China's deflation was caused not just by demand-side factors like the Asian financial crisis but also by supply-side factors like inefficiency and excess capacity in the enterprise sector. The situation of enterprises covering their losses by taking on more debts on the one hand, and banks accumulating non-performing loans on the other hand is unsustainable. Short-run macroeconomic stabilization policy should be used to support enterprise reform. The government should shift the focus of its expenditures from public works to the establishment of much better social safety nets to enable enterprises to restructure their operations. For some countries, the IMF's rescue packages came too late and too little, and the conditionalities were too harsh. Asian economies need to strengthen their regional co-operation: they should set up regular consultations, establish a research institute that would issue evaluations on the economic situation in member countries, and explore the possibility of a regional monetary fund.

Highly Recommended for Bosses and Workers.......2002-08-01

This book was a delightful surprise. I expected to read yet another business book directed solely toward owners, executives, and managers. This specialized audience will gain quite a lot from this book, but so will "ordinary employees." 22 Keys is an Everyman's book, written in a tone that encourages focused initiative by all sorts of readers. Not only does this approach add value to the book, it makes it much more salable in bulk to companies interested in changing their work environment.

Corporate culture has been defined as "what it feels like to work here." Terez has captured what people are looking for in today's work environment in his exploration of what it takes to create a meaningful workplace. Before going any further, it's important to list the 22 Keys. As you read this list, pause at each one and think about how it relates to your personal situation. Purpose, Direction, Relevance, Validation, Respect, Equality, Informality, Flexibility, Ownership, Challenge, Invention, Support, Personal Development, Dialogue, Relationship Building, Service, Acknowledgement, Oneness, Self-Identity, Fit, Balance, and Worth.

Each key is presented in a chapter heavily seasoned with vignettes that hold the reader's attention. Not all the stories have happy endings, making this book even more valuable. It's not a quick-and-easy-guide-to-Nirvana, but is a realistic presentation. Questions challenge the reader's thinking and, hopefully, stimulate behavior. Actions by others are described to build a sense of confidence that the reader can also do these things and make a difference.

The book has a number of features that increase its readability and usefulness. Reality checks at the end of each chapter focus the reader's attention. Did you get the message? Quotations, liberally sprinkled throughout the book, stimulate thought. I felt the author could have done with a few less quotes, but that's a very minor issue. One of the pages I turned down (there were many) marks a quote by Albert Einstein: "Not everything that can be counted counts, but not everything that counts can be counted." When we're all looking to measure our performance, yet at the same time achieve life-work balance, the quote is meaningful. Ah! Meaningful. The objective of the book: well-achieved. The action plans will help you get started to make a difference in your organization.

This book will be around for a while. It fits comfortably with what needs to be done in the world of work-in the private sector, in government, in non-profits, in education. If it isn't on your shelf yet, now is the time to get a copy, read it, and share it. I read the hardcover edition.

High Fiber Content.......2002-03-18

22 Keys is much more than an interesting book about building a meaningful workplace. It is a practical guide for creating the kind of environment we all wish for. While many books talk about how "nice" it is to have meaning at work, this book has practical excercises for transforming the workforce to one that both improves productivity and retains the best employees. You don't just read the book and put it away, but actually use it to make tangible improvements. Tom's research was fascinating, and he writes in in a style everyone will appreciate. Thanks for all the actual ideas that have made a difference Tom!
