This fantastic book is almost impossible to put down. It follows the tale of the Bank from initial studies, through the invited international competition, design development, bidding, and construction. The challenges of building the "most expensive building ever built" in the middle of South-East Asia involved manufacturing and engineering feats usually reserved for aerospace of military efforts. The book really describes how the design concept responded to the realities of the program and the construction procedures and how Foster's office and others staged the monumental task of getting the building completed. Everyone involved claimed that it was the project they had been training for their entire career.

Possibly the greatest work of art by the famous British Architect Sir Norman Foster, this review takes you step by step through the entire process of design, planning, and construction. At it's time the most expensive building on earth, Williams' book is a tour-de-force and should be a must read for every budding young architect. Seek it out and buy one now if you can (I bought 5 copies to give to my friends)

Most of the things covered in this book are already known to photographers that have worked in the field, but for photographers starting in shooting models, this guide gives them a good start in the field.

Even though the book is titled 'A Step-by-Step Guide for Photographers', the information in here is even more valuable for models. Info on height classifications, measurements, posing, etc. I'd say all new models, and those that want to be models, this is a 'must have' book.

It's very pro, a little out of fashion, it's a 2004 book, so that's normal I guess. If you don't work in the USA market, it is a good guide about how to work.

Fantastic "Glimpse" into the world of shooting for models.......2007-02-15

This is a fantastic book. It provides great information about doing photography with a model's portfolio in mind It provides good examples with lighting guides, and dips the reader's toe into the fashion/modeling industry with just enough information to excite some readers - and scare others away. this is a good thing.

I just longed for more information; it lacked information about the modeling industry as a whole, particularly modeling agencies and how the work. this is good information for a photographer who wants to help models break into or maintain effective work with such agencies. Sadly, this information was lacking in the book, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. This information could help photographers work better with agency models on their portfolios.

That said, this book has a plethora of information on portfolios, the dos and do not, and plenty of other supplemental information that can be applied to any situation involving model photography.

A said before, book consist of basically "well, i was there and i asked {ModelName} to do this, and she selected this pose, which makes this nice image" paragraphs...

So this book is collection of images with few not to detailed sentences about every shot.

I certainly expected more from this book.

Good start but becomes repetitive........2007-02-13

The book isn't very good at really explaining how the shot was created. So if you want to learn about how or why a certain setting was used in detail, this isn't the book for you. If you want to get some good ideas of tasteful nude/portrait photos, this could be the ticket. Some of the narratives of the motivation behind the shot is helpful. However by the end of the book, you may end up disappointed that you read the whole thing. About half way through the book just skim the verbiage and enjoy the photos.

Poor Quality photos, no real information.......2007-02-09

I brought this book a while back and was not happy with it, lucky for amazon I'm a lazy person when it comes to returning things, especially onine. The photos are poor, they look like someone used a compact camera to take the shot, and with no artistic or creative skill either.

There are maybe a few pictures which may be considered close to pro level but as a non pro myself I can already acheive better quality pictures. i expected more than this, there was no depth to the pictures on how they were designed or envisioned by the photographer, just a bunch of random pictures.

A good book, brilliant written, easy to understand and follow, there is no need to be an expert photographer to gain result from this book. Nice to see work and advice from both the USA and the UK and even a model I have worked with graces the pages. If you're new to glamour photography and studio work, or need a few tips as I did, this book will be a valuable aid. Best advice you will have this year, is buy this book.

Better for the beginner. Not bad...gives insight other books don't offer. It reveals, professionally, how to use what you have in your camera bag. Bidner & Beans' Lighting Cookbook gives you "qualitative" lighting. You can choose what to "add" to the model you're photographing..Glitz or Character, beauty is in both.

This book is not as I expected. The photo setups are not illustrated as they should be. I must say that "Photographing People: Portraits - Fashion - Glamour" is best one I've seen so far.

Mixed reviews.......2005-09-09

There are some good examples regarding focal length and using lighting. A splattering of good professional advice mixed in with alot of average information. They could have done a much better job with the printing of the photographs. This was the biggest disappointment. Some of the photos are blurred or lose all detail. Many of the photos are too small to even see what the author is talking about. They should have editied down the text about 40 pages and do a better job printing the photos.

This is NOT Fashion Shots!.......2007-04-25

I was looking for the book "Fashion Shots" so I entered it in the "Books" section of Amazon.com & this is the result I came up with. There is a photo of the book "Fashion Shots," but the heading to the side of the image is "New Product Shots." The information on Amazon.com is about a book called "Fashion Shots" & the reviews are about a book called "Fashion Shots." I thought this was odd but that it must be the same book. I ordered the book & received a book called "New Product Shots" instead - a completely different (but good) book that I already own. I don't know why Amazon.com has false information about this book but I would suggest ordering elsewhere. I'm deeply disappointed! I've been looking for "Fashion Shots" for years & once again am left empty handed.

Fashion Shots is a book that includes many different lighting situations in a clear layout. I like the book for this, because its imformative and fun to read at the same time. If your interested in fashion photography, this is definetely a book to consider.

I was very disappointed in Amherst and Mr. Pegram. The effort fell considerably short of a book geared toward instruction. Mr. Pegram continually makes reference to how he shot the subject, but never shows the effect of his tips, because the images are in B/W. Sometimes Billy informs you technically how he pulled the shoot off and other times it is a mystery. Amherst has been in the Photography instruction publishing business a long time, but I feel they should have stepped up and consulted with Mr. Pegram and published the book in color. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME! How about a refund??????????????????????????????????????

too little information on fashion photography.......1999-06-29

This book talked mainly about the pictures in this book and not about actually doing fashion photography as well as working with models. I don't think it gave enough information about model photography that an acquiring mind would want to know. Also I realized that a lot of the pictures in the book were suppose to be in color but they were printed B&W.
