Book Description

This volume is based on a review and a survey among stake-holders which was carried out within the framework of the research project CORRIDESIGN. Starting from the observation that regional economies are intertwined on a European scale, CORRIDESIGN examined whether, to what extent, and in what ways this process towards a network society is spatially linked with the development of cross-border megacorridors between seven large urban regions in North West Europe - the Randstad, the Flemmish Diamond, the Rheinruhr area, Lille, Paris, London and the West Midlands.

This book makes clear that although the origins of the corridor concept lie in the domain of infrastructure, its meaning extends to such fields as regional economy, urban development and governance. CORRIDESIGN was one of the projects for trans-national cooperation in spatial planning that were executed under the umbrella of the North Western European Area Operational Program. This program was part of the Interreg IIC, a Community Initiative co-financed by the European Commission to promote trans-national cooperation between public bodies and private parties from different countries through projects on both a regional and local level. CORRIDESIGN was carried out by a consortium of seven academic research institutes from the five countries where the megacorridores involved are located.

El libro contiene instrucciones fáciles de seguir, acompañadas de figuras muy claras, lo que permite concluir cada una de las 58 figuras que contiene. Estas estan tomadas del repertorio tradicional, todas hechas con una única hoja de papel. Fue mi primer libro, y gracias al cual me encanté con este arte. Sinceramente lo recomiendo como libro para quienes quieren principiar en el origami. Lástima que la editorial Kapeluz lo descontinuó.

Linking People, Place, and Policy: A GIScience Approach describes a breadth of research associated with the study of human-environment interactions, with particular emphasis on land use and land cover dynamics. This book examines the social, biophysical, and geographical drivers of land use and land cover patterns and their dynamics, which are interpreted within a policy-relevant context. Concepts, tools, and techniques within Geographic Information Science serve as the unifying methodological framework in which landscapes in Thailand, Ecuador, Kenya, Cambodia, China, Brazil, Nepal, and the United States are examined through analyses conducted using quantitative, qualitative, and image-based techniques.

Linking People, Place, and Policy: A GIScience Approach addresses a need for a comprehensive and rigorous treatment of GIScience for research and study within the context of human-environment interactions. The human dimensions research community, land use and land cover change programs, and human and landscape ecology communities, among others, are collectively viewing the landscape within a spatially-explicit perspective, where people are viewed as agents of landscape change that shape and are shaped by the landscape, and where landscape form and function are assessed within a space-time context. This book articulates some of these challenges and opportunities.

This is an excellent book. I highly recommend it to all managers. The authors researched companies & individuals that are known for excellent leadership. They propose 7 outmoded leadership practices that need to be 'exchanged' for forward-looking innovative practices. I also heard Mitch speak last week on these 7 practices -- it was very insightful. One topic I found very helpful was the discussion of the 3 generations that are coexisting in the workplace. We have the Gen Xers, baby-boomers, & the traditionalists -- each group is motivated differently. The book even details interview questions for each group that are very helpful. This is MUST reading.
