Lilian Miller, an under-noticed quality printmaker .......2004-09-22

Lilian Miller, lived and worked in Japan in the early half of the 20th century, creating woodblock prints, paintings and drawings of her surroundings. Her efforts in woodblock printmaking are a unique vision of a Japan aesthetic during the art deco era. This book is on the thin side, but it catalogs a good quantity of her work(in color), and documents her life story. Lilian Miller, in my opinion is one of those under appreciated artists who has the general respect of fellow artists/printmakers and collectors of fine japanese prints. Outside of that circle she is not widely known. Her Blockprint images of Japan is what drew me to purchase this book and learn more. Regardless of her small notoriety, this book is a very good representation of another Western artists living in Japan before WW2.

Don't Bother!.......2000-01-19

Spending your money on swamp land in Florida is a better way to gain information about our environment than purchasing this CD.

If you are in desperate need of the information found on this CD, I'd go with the out of date WRI's 1994 Information Please Environmental Almanac, look up the pertinant information and double check the source to update the figures.

The problems with the CD are as follows:

1) There is no program on the CD, in other words the information is held within the CD as unorganized text files. Just click and read and read and read and read and read-and what was I looking for in the first place? It's easier to find the proverbial needle.

2) It's not Macintosh friendly Don't spend the money if you are planning on viewing this CD on a MAC.

a good resource to help you narrow down your internew job search effectively

Great Resource Book.......2000-10-19

As Career Planning Host for bellaonline.com, I was interested to read this book as part of my research for my series on the online job search. What I discovered was that it was not a book to "read" as much as a wonderful resource which would reduce my internet research time by hours!

This is not a book of how to's - it has a few sections discussing career planning and eresumes, but refers you to websites for more information. You can find information on how to write eresumes and submit online on my site, or all over the internet.

What this book DOES have is links - separated by position type, state, even country. The legwork is done for you - and it allows you to target your job search to whatever industry or area you want - look up the lists of links for your target, and submit from there.

I note, however, that because of the dynamics of the internet, that resources like this can never stay current. Admittedly, since publication, some websites have merged or gone, but from my research, the majority of them were current and easy to find.

A valuable resource for targetting your job search.

This is NOT a book on cyber resumes---there are whole tomes devoted to that topic. It IS a comprehensively researched listing of sites from the common to the highly specialized. I use this as a text in my graduate class to train counselors who work in one-stop career centers and in college placement offices. It's a great resource for sites and ideas on how to best use the Internet for finding a job: clear, concise and free of hype. Highly recommended.

Major disappointment.......1999-10-21

This is the first Amazon book I've ever returned, but I did so in a heartbeat. Despite the long list of online sites - as advertised - there was no useful information on preparing a resume for online submission, despite a whole "chapter" on the subject (6 pages, actually). There is not a single reference to the use of keywords in your resume, strategies for tailoring a resume for companies who insist on online / electronic submission, beyond the trivial "use an asterisk for a bullet"...

If you're only looking for sites to submit your resume to, I suppose this would be useful. But if you want guidance as to how to help your resume rise to the top of the electronic stack, this book is a waste of money.

A wonderful reference.......2000-05-11

This book is a wonderful reference book focused on the correlation between environmental change and human health issues world-wide. All of the sections are extremely well written, using clear, descriptive language. Each section also contains an ample amount of charts, tables, and graphs. While these are not as colorful as other books from the United Nations, the use of color is extremely effective. Just a glance at a chart yields its contents, a good time-saving technique for a researcher or student. Finally, there are over a hundred pages of data tables in the back. These tables make it easy to compare countries. Like the articles themselves, the explanations are clear and interesting. Overall, this book is a wonderful reference tool and would easily supplement a course on the global environment.

Good book........2007-08-22

The book has a bit of every aspect of ALM. Good choice for people looking to become familiar with terms, techniques and process of ALM.
It's a little out of date if you ask me. Some of the issues exposed need to be updated as they no longer apply to some financial institutions. As so, it's not the best book to buy but quite good choice to start with ALM.

Handbook on bank asset liability management.......2005-08-02

This is a good primer but out of date in 2005. Since it's last printing, banks have been burdened with SFAS 133 which substantially changes the rules of the road for hedging assets and liabilities. An updated version certainly needs to tackle this challenge. Also, banks have expanded the types of assets they will buy, such as CMBS, whole loans, and raw loans. On the liability side, structured financing has become a critical tool in a bank's ALCO toolkit.

Covers a lot of ground on ALM.......2003-05-29

Chapters are written by different authors. So, they vary in depth and difficulty. Some chapters are very technical, some are easier to read. But, the content is always very solid. Studying this book will give you a strong overall knowledge of ALM.

Classical and Comprehensive of traditional ALM.......2000-12-26

This book can serve you as the authoritive summary of the traditional ALM issues and techniques. It doesn't only describe the concept we should consider, but also educate the details of the ALM tools. Though this book doesn't deal with hot issues such as VaR and stochastic term structure model, it contains the essential ALM theory and practical technique you must know before diving into the frontier of ALM.
