I think this book is ok, it is informative but i also think that there is a lot that is being left out. There is a lot of design terminology that i think should be included for this to be called a real Dictionary of design.

I love hands-on projects for children, and this activity book is full of them, workable for a range of ages. From creating your own restaurant based on foods grown and served in Jersey restaurants to calculating cross-city mileage and designing your own town, the ideas can work on a weekend car-trip or as a year-long classroom project. Fun!

They also discuss the writings of such figures as Brecht and Freud, who are not primarily thought of as political theorists, and explore the thought of Helmut Plessner and reformist theorists from East Germany who have been little studied in the English language. This work renders an uncompromising verdict on the scourge of our millennium: i.e. modernism, itself the artefact of certain Late Eurocentric propensities. It argues that, whilst modernism is possessed of some virtues and benignities, they are purchased at far too high a cost-indeed, a cost that neither the species nor the planet can, on any scale, find affordable. More urgently, the author holds that modernism imperils the existence of all species and the mother of all hospitalities, viz., the planet itself. Given the imminence and the gravity of this threat, as portrayed in the work, he further suggests that no other posture is at all, in the highest sense, ecologically responsible. We must, stated simply, he claims, break with the manifold paradigms of the European Enlightenment or find ourselves, soon enough, as mutant beings occupying an alien habitat.This book goes far beyond the usual genre of critique by actually offering salves and antidotes to the enduring malaise of our times. It also offers a new paradigm for the human sciences locating it firmly in the species being of our hominid natures thereby annulling the spurious distinctions between "nature-culture", et.al. drawn by the European enlightenment. In particular, the book points to the "paradigm of femininity" as the potential agent of a very real, and realizable (and realized) emancipation from the delusive "utopias" of European, masculinist paternity. Finally, the book entreats us to re-evaluate our real placement in an evolving, self-fulfilling universe.

Like its two predecessors with the same title, this volume attempts to analyze how the World Bank is dealing with the major challenges it encounters as a result of constant changes in the world it serves. The now complete three-volume series on the World Bank in a Changing World is written by a Bank insider who, as the Bank's Vice President, then Senior Vice President, and General Counsel for a period extending over more than fifteen years (from 1 August 1983 to 15 October 1998), was a member of the Bank's senior management and attended almost all the meetings of its Board of Executive Directors. With this background, the purpose of the book is not simply to provide information, especially in areas that are often not known, misunderstood or not adequately appreciated outside the Bank; it also analyzes this information in depth, particularly from policy and legal perspectives, with a view to drawing lessons that may be useful both to the Bank and its member countries in making their future choices. Every effort has been made to present the facts as objectively and accurately as possible; the analysis and conclusions reflect, however, the author's own convictions. Both in its legal analysis and in its minute descriptions of developments within and outside the Bank, the three volumes of this book present a unique source of knowledge that only an author with the qualifications and varied experience of Ibrahim F.I. Shihata could write. The book's title should not hide the diversity of the topics it covers and their relevance to those interested not only in development issues but also in matters of international law, international organizations, international relations, environment, human rights and institutional reform, especially legal, judicial, civil service and banking sector reform.

Economics As If People Mattered.......2006-02-17
I am a college instructor who teaches a sociology course of social stratification. This is a very unusual text in that it compares neo-classical economics to the political economy tradition by showing in very practical ways how each tradition gives different explanations of why there is economic inequality in wages, unemployment, and job distribution between whites, blacks and women. The text is easy to read and very evenhanded in how it treats both theories. There are excellent discussion questions at the end of each chapter and a rich bibliography. The book is relatively brief so it could either stand alone or be supplemented by another text. A very well put together text.

intriguing insight.......2000-02-21
This book provides some very insightful perspectives and opinions on minority employment in today's world. Although it can be fairly subtle in some spots, the book is based entirely on fact, and therefore is a good tool for those interested in contemporary labor studies. For those in the field, this book provides fresh new insights. It is appropriate for those studying labor economics, women's issues, minority issues, and discrimination.
