This book is one of the best reference books an architect will ever use. It contains the necessary information for the beginning and advanced architect. Inside the 568 pages in this book one will find from the most basic to the highly complex architectural graphics. The book provides reference for the various arcchitectural plans such as the floor plan, elevation and perspective drawings. No other reference material can surpass the amount of information provided in this excellent book.

The reprsentation was not clear this is a reproduction of a 1935 published book. This is not usefull in todays building enviroment.

A must have for anyone working or having an interest in architecture. As a companion to the current edition, it provides guidelines for laying out domestic serving pantries and other forgotten features. Should one wish, it also provides superior graphics as models for fixture symbols.

I am a Civil Engineer ( 25 years of design ) and I have found this book excellent. I have worked with the previous edition and the new one is more complete. Is a a book rich of details useful for the profession.

At less than $40 for a used copy, the Student Edition can't be beat, as it provides most of the essential information from the complete Graphic Standards. The information is organized along the lines of Masterspec with additional sections on Energy and Environmental Design and Historic Preservation. It is certainly enough to get you started. It is also important to have relevant code books. Ching's Building Codes Illustrated is a good place to start. It is nice to have so much building construction information consolidated into one book.

Great look at good looking men from an earlier time.......2004-11-24
Mel Roberts has been photographing young men for decades. This book and its companion book - The Wild Ones - document the state of erotic male photographs from an earlier era...a simpler era.
Not only are the photographs excellent, but their value as a time capsule of erotica from an earlier era is notable. Today, we see nothing but photos on billboards, in magazines, on television and on the big screen of men and women who are the epitome of physical perfection. To achieve such perfection requires hours and hours of unabated gym time as well as a good dose of steroids. Mel Roberts' young men are often natural, though sometimes defined. However, never are they examples of health through deprivation or drug induced excess.
These are young men who Mel Roberts' discovered in his neighborhood and through his travels. California Boys features less nudity than the Wild Ones and no men in a state of arousal as in The Wild Ones, so it is a more innocent view of the era.
Very erotic, but nothing like you will see today, California Boys is a great cocktail book for the discerning man or woman...or it is a great book to have sequestered away for a naughty march down memory lane.
Simple, timeless photography.......2003-07-11
Wow!! Does this book ever recapture those seemingly inncocent days of the 60s and early 70s?
Some wonderful models, wonderful locations and most of all a wonderfully bright and sunny California sky. Most of the photos have a warmth of light that simply glows from the page..
This book is like the Beach Boys but in photographs and not songs. The images convey a simple innocence and enjoyment. The haircuts and clothing takes you back to those easier, less frenetic times.
The poses range from the very formal style of the 1950s, to the informal 'snapshot' from 1979. The models are, for the most part, not the hulks seen in so many American physique photos, but rather more evryday types of guys. The emphasis is on the young, and if you have a hunkering for the blond surfer type, you won't be disappointed.
Well worth buying.
A Must Have for Serious Photography Collectors.......2001-01-02
You will have the most fun with this volume of Mel Roberts' work, if you pick it up without any expectations. It's been over 20 years since Roberts' work has been available to the public, and the collection here is different than any other collection of his work in the past, which mind you, were put out by the author with whatever funds he had available. This time, the guy's got a small-press publisher behind him footing the bill, so there's a sleekness to the presentation that never existed before.
What I loved the most about this book was not the models, or the settings, though both are beautiful and interesting, but the most intriguing element for me was that Roberts' work seems to have captured an innocence of a "time," a time which will never be again. So many photographers today are trying to photograph that "retro" look, and failing miserably at it. Mel Roberts has done it because he was there doing it, capturing the essence of the 1960s, in the 1960s. Besides, the whole thing is very erotic, a must have for serious collectors. I've already bought 3 prints from the book and plan to buy more! Bravo! to Mel Roberts and whomever (FotoFactory Press) had the inspiration and intelligence to bring this man's work out of the woodwork!
The closer you look, the better it is.......2000-12-10
My first quick perusal of this book lead to a mild sense of disappointment, but the more I studied the pictures, the more I came to appreciate their artistry. And while the pictures may be from the '60s and '70s, some poses seem very 1950's style. I would also prefer one picture of each model--and therefore more models. But the pictures are of high quality. All in all, a real Mel Roberts fan-either for eroticism or nostalgia-might easily enjoy his videos much more

Not the most useful, but comprehensive........2007-09-09
This book by Anthony Boardman et al. is a heavy read. It is not a book you would want to read from A to Z in order to understand Cost-Benefit Analysis or CBA, but it is one of the better reference books I have found. The only downside I found was a very theoretical approach and lack of really useful examples. Nevertheless, not one element of CBA seems to be left untouched. This book is a valuable reference to anyone relying on CBA as a decision-making tool, because it will assist you in understanding what it is that you are analyzing when applying CBA.

I had to buy this book for a class I took on Cost-benefit analysis (which is probably why you're thinking of buying it, too). The contents of my review won't have much influence on your choice to purchase it, as that decision has already been made by your prof. But I think I owe you a few warnings.
Some of the chapters are well-written (the chapters on discounting and compounding and time value), but most of them are confusing (the chapters on option value and the section about the optimal growth discount model). Even our professor, who has a BA in econ from Yale and a PhD in econ from Berkeley, had trouble getting through these sections. Some of the homework problems at the ends of the chapters ask about material that the text never fully explains. In a few instances, the book reminds you why you hate integral calculus.
So although I can't stop you from buying this, I can at least warn you that your trip through its pages will be nothing like a trip through the beautiful mountains on the cover. Unless you were planning on climbing the mountains. In January. Without GPS or crampons.
Straightforward.......2003-01-25
The authors have put approached this topic in a step by step way. It explains important background topics as well. I bought this book for a class, so I really didn't have much choice in the matter. I expect that most buyers will do so for the same reason. To them, I say "don't worry about it," this won't hurt as much as you think." If you are considering this for pleasure reading, well, don't let me stop you.

Probably one of the few only books available that talks about CBA. Lacks in real life examples, otherwise a good read for grasping basic concepts and tools.

I cannot rave enough about Pohlman's VALUE DRIVEN MANAGEMENT book. I purchased this book as a requirement for both my first class in the MBA program and as a fundamental requirement of the premise of NSU's business style. The book is filled with theory, the reason behind them and examples to understand their significance. Essentially, the fundamental factor is value. Determining the value drivers of your team to lead them to achieve, adding value to the organization, its customers, and other shareholders. This book does an excellent job of outlining the important elements of a management style that incorporates value at every step. This book is unlike other business books that just rattle off theories and throw in an example or two to reinforce the point. Rather, this book explains the theory, the underlying motivation behind the reasons why they are effective (the value drivers) and provides many examples offering different perspectives on the same theory. This helps the reader understand the concept and truly appreciate the need for this type of management. This should be on every manager's reference list.
Value Driven Management.......2007-01-11
This book spells out the concepts of Value Driven Management. Chapter 7 does well with giving the reader a mindset on how to approach the concept. The book on a whole is a great piece of marketing for Dean Pohlman and his cohorts. You'll find that he refers to them often within the text. Good Book.
The Rules of Engagement.......2000-12-15
The premise that Gardiner and Pohlman speak of in their collaborative effort Value Driven Management is that the most valuable resource in the new economy is neither technology or information, but rather human attention. Managers and professionals of all types should be thinking about how their own attention is best allocated and how to harness the attention of their colleagues, customers and business partners. The key markets in the future will be those in which attention is bought and sold. It's an attention economy and those who succeed in it will be those who know how to manage attention. Using what the co-authors call "value drivers", the reader is given a guided tour of what the future may hold for the world of business for those managers who define, prioritize and give a support system that promotes achievement. Clarity is one of several key words used throughout the book. With clarity comes success and many companies have had some success using pieces of this concept, but the authors stress the fact that any business that intends to stay in business will have to grasp this concept and make it a ongoing part of their organizational life. In these turbulent times, an organization's ability to survive will depend upon on a number of factors illustrated throughout VDM. Any manager would be wise to heed its message.
De rigueur for todayýs managers.......2000-08-10
Whether managing a brick-and-mortar or click-and-mortar business, Pohlman's Value Driven Management is de rigueur for today's managers. The key to his theory is not repeating the past management gurus. In his book, he, too, has added value over time to the foundations on which yesterday's management strategies were founded. Pohlman's secret? Adding a component of long-term vision. His "Value over Time for Organizational Success" adds a new dimension to value driven management.
His successes in both academia and the business world are the test of his pedagogy. The proof is in the pudding, as they say.
