This well-illustrated text teaches the basic skills needed to read, study, and understand construction drawings. It features a detailed analysis of a set of residential plans. Pictorial drawings accompany orthographic plan drawings to help students visualize the meaning of the plan drawing. Construction technology students taking beginning and intermediate plan reading courses will also learn about important related areas that affect plan development, such as building codes, materials, and mathematics applications. There is ample construction data throughout the text's eight sections, one of which consists of assignments for three sets of full-size construction plans provided. Great for Educational Purposes.......2003-12-15

This book a good introduction for blueprint reading, there are 2D and 3D drawings that help readers to visualize the information on the drawings. At the end of each chapter are review questions and definitions of key words, which are useful especially for students.

It comes with large construction drawings on three projects that were actually built. Although they should have printed them on separate pieces of paper instead of having them on both sides of the sheet, this makes it hard to compare and study those construction drawings.

Also, the paper used for publication I find is a bit thin, you have to read the textbook on a flat surface, otherwise it will curl up. The same goes with the construction drawings, after a couple of times of folding and un-folding, the papers tend to tear easily.

I have been teaching print reading for over 4 years, & this is my required text. Print Reading for Construction is written in a very plain English style and works very well in diverse classroom settings. In addition, this text provides a great deal of sample building plans for sharpening your skills.

The current edition is a major revision of the original book, and includes detailed information on painting with oils as well as acrylic paints. Most techniques are well illustrated with good quality closeup photographs, which really helps to walk you through the steps.

How to Paint Realistic Military Figures.......2005-07-07

This book was exactly what I was looking for. I'm fairly fussy when it comes to my hobbies, and will only invest in something that I know is good.

It has lots of step-by-step photos and techniques explained in detail.

The authors are very experienced and do excellent jobs of conveying their many years of experience.

I highly recommend this book if you're interested in painting figures. Novice to experienced painters will not be disappointed, it's definitely a keeper that will be used many times as reference in the future.

A Very Good Primer for Painting with Acrylics!.......2005-04-19

Actually, I haven't seen the new edition of this book; only the original. The techniques of using acrylics for figure painting are explained very clearly and the photos are very good. Each stage of achieving the final result is shown. BEST OF ALL: The authors of this book do good work, so you know THEY know what they're talking about! Beware of another book on painting figures with acrylics...this was the first I've seen and is still light years ahead of the 'other'.

Banking on Multinationals addresses two fundamental puzzles in Japanese industrial policy: Why does the Japanese state—better known for its attempts to control markets, protect infant industries, and maximize national exports—administer the world's largest public program to support the expansion of multinational corporations? And why does the Japanese state not fear loss of control over mobile multinational corporations and erosion of the domestic export base through foreign direct investment (FDI)? Solís’s explanation of Japan’s lead in state financing of FDI takes into account both the industrial policy goals behind the extension of FDI loans and the political uses of subsidized credit to appease economically weak but politically powerful constituencies.

As the first systematic study of Japan’s public FDI loan program, Banking on Multinationals reveals a previously unexamined dimension of Japanese government policy and helps explain the uncanny ability of stagnant sectors and small firms to participate in FDI activities. Little over a decade ago, infrastructure concessions promised to solve Latin America's endemic infrastructure deficit. Awarded in competitive auctions, these concessions were supposed to combine private sector efficiency with rent dissipation brought about by competition. Yet something did not go quite right, as concessions were plagued with opportunistic renegotiations, most of them at the expense of taxpayers. This book is a major contribution toward understanding what went wrong and what should be done differently in the future to reap the potential benefits of infrastructure reform and private participation in infrastructure provision. It begins by analyzing a rich data set on more than 1,000 infrastructure concessions, uncovering a series of puzzling stylized facts. It then considers alternative explanations for the patterns it has uncovered, and concludes with a series of insightful policy proposals aimed at avoiding the common mistakes and make concessions to efficiently contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction.

It is a very complete survey of granting concessions in Latin America, their successes and failures, and their why's. However, don't expect to find a theoretical treaty of the subject. You'll find very useful statistics and comparisons.
