Lacks Good Images.......2007-09-17
Technicaly it is a good book, because it shows you exactly how the subject matter was lit, the amount of strobes used, lightboxes, etc. But, the images themselves are not very good.
Terribly out of date.......2007-09-06
Published in 2002, but full of images that would appear to be from the 1980s, this is horribly out of date. Thus, no mention of digital and the dramatic changes it has bought to studio photography and images that have dated terribly. Even as a 'technique' book this has limited value as many of the compositions are so bizarre and unusual that you are hardly ever likely to need the kind of lighting that is presented. If you are looking for a book with general advice for product and still life (which I was), this is not the one.
helpfull and creative.......2007-09-05
there is a lot of information on how to use lights and input on creative ways for solving problems in a studio. the only thing i would wish for is cheaper more minimalistic ways of coming to great results
Recommended.......2007-07-08
A MUST for photographers who want to do still life photography. Lots of ideas and "how to" information. Loved it!
Must buy.......2007-02-13
As a student photographer, grabbing ideas to inspire me is no small feat, this book has a lot to share. As I have purchased a ton of books on amazon about photography, this is one of the rare finds that is definately worth the money, and more!

Funny, Funny, Funny!!!!!!!.......2001-06-13
First of all let's get some facts straight, Robert Trebor is NOT the illustrator of the book. He is the wickedly funny AUTHOR of the book, unless of course Salmoneus actually is the author in which case Mr. Trebor does an amazing job of translating unknown languages. But I suspect it's the former. This is a book that can be appreciated by kids and adults, each gleaning something different and entertaining from it depending on levels of sophistication. You can be a fan of Hercules and Xena, but you need not be to get many hearty chuckles. All you have to do is be familiar with American pop culture and/or the political scene over the past few years. I mean how can a person not love dear old Sal giving financial advice to Bill Gates and Donald Trump? Not to mention giving romantic advice to Dr. Laura, Dr. Ruth, and Madame Bovary! Trebor's got a great imagination! Salmoneus even gives advice to the Mona Lisa, Leonardo diCaprio, and the Little Engine That Could! This book will be enjoyed by anyone with half a sense of humor or more. By the way, apparently Salmoneus is resposible for Stanley Kubrick's decision to make very few films. But as Sal says, "Stan, quality is more important than quantity".

Book Description
Power for Development evaluates the performance of the World Bank Group (WBG) during the 1990s in promoting private sector development in the electric power sector. This joint review aims to inform the implementation of the WBG's 2001 Energy Business Renewal Strategy and the 2003 Infrastructure Plan. It is based on an evaluation of the WBG's assistance for private sector development of the electric power sector in 80 countries. The main messages of the report are:
1. the WBG should continue to support private sector development in the electric power sector as a key objective. Well-implemented Bank Group activities in this area can improve sector efficiency in countries politically committed to the advancement of power sector reforms.
2. outcomes of International Finance Corporation and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency transactions have been positive, but the Bank's project-level outcomes were disappointing, mostly because the Bank underestimated the complexity and time required for reforms to achieve lasting and equitable outcomes. At the sector level, outcomes have been poor or, at best, mixed, except in countries fully committed to reforms.
3. private sector development of the electric power sector is a work in progress because the power sector reform process is complex, takes time, is resource-intensive, and requires phasing and careful sequencing to create the conditions for sector transformation.
4. much work remains to integrate poverty reduction and environmental mainstreaming into the design of power sector reform and related strategies, which to date have focused mostly on sector efficiency and macro-fiscal objectives.

Book Description
Product differentiation - in quality, packaging, design, color, and style - has an important impact on consumer choice. It also provides a rich source of data that has been largely unexplored because there has been no generally accepted way to model the information available. This important study shows that an understanding of product differentiation is crucial to understanding how modern market economies function and that differentiated markets can be analyzed using discrete choice models of consumer behavior. It provides a valuable synthesis of existing, often highly technical work in both differentiated markets and discrete choice models and extends this work to establish a coherent theoretical underpinning for research in imperfect competition.
The discrete choice approach provides an ideal framework for describing the demands for differentiated products and can be used for studying most product differentiation models in the literature. By introducing extra dimensions of product heterogeneity, the framework also provides richer models of firm location.
Discrete Choice Theory of Product Differentiation introduces students and researchers to the field, starting at the beginning and moving through to frontier research. The first four chapters detail the consumer-theoretic foundations underlying choice probability systems (including an overview of the main models used in the psychological theory of choice), while the next four chapters apply the probabilistic choice approach to oligopoly models of product differentiation, product selection, and location choice. The final chapter suggests various extensions of the models presented as well topics for further research.
Simon P. Anderson is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Virginia. André de Palma is Professor of Marketing at the University of Geneva. Jacques-François Thisse is Professor of Economics at the University of Paris I-Sorbonne, and is on the staff of the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.

Book Description
This book presents economic theories that seek to explain the prevalence of differentiated products in market economies. It uses these theories to derive market equilibria and to compare these to social optima for both horizontally and vertically differentiated products. The implications of product differentiation for market structure and power, strategic entry deterrence and international trade are all examined.
Customer Reviews:
: ) easy to read.......2001-08-11
This book presented various theories on product differentiation in a readable manner. It does not take you much time to pick up the idea presented in this book. Models covered are also basic. I think having some prior knowledge in game theory can help you understand better the materials. However, this book does not contain discrete choice theory, which is a more difficult topic.

Book Description
The author introduces the model of an environmentally differentiated duopoly, in order to explicitly analyze the strategic interaction within such a market. He studies in detail the effects of environmental product standards, eco-labels, `green' R&D subsidies and environmental taxation on firm behavior, welfare and emissions. Non-technical sections providing the empirical context expertly complement the formal theoretical analysis of environmental policy-making. The author goes on to present important new conclusions for environmental policy and an agenda for future research. The Greening of Markets will be of immense interest to students and academics of environmental economics and applied industrial organization, as well as policymakers and environmental managers.

Imperfect competition and congestion in the City [An article from: Journal of Urban Economics]
A. de Palma , and
S. Proost
Manufacturer: Elsevier
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Digital
ASIN: B000P6O6FE |
Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Urban Economics, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This paper presents a model to study the interplay of imperfect competition and congestion. Residents live in the city center while they shop and work in subcenters (shopping centers, airports, etc.). Each subcenter offers one differentiated product and one differentiated workplace. Shopping and commuting from the city center to the subcenter requires the use of transport infrastructure that can be congested. We derive the Nash equilibrium in prices and in wages and analyze the welfare impacts of congestion charging and infrastructure policies. We generalize the literature on imperfect competition with (spatially) differentiated products in the presence of (un) priced congestion.

Product differentiation and location decisions under demand uncertainty [An article from: Journal of Economic Theory]
K.J. Meagher , and
K.G. Zauner
Manufacturer: Elsevier
ProductGroup: Book

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Economic Theory, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
We investigate Hotelling's duopoly game of location-then-price choices with quadratic transportation costs and uniformly distributed consumers under the assumption that firms are uncertain about the exact location of demand. We characterize the unique equilibrium and the socially optimal locations. Contrary to the individual-level random utility models, location uncertainty is a differentiation force. In equilibrium, increases in the variance of the uncertainty lead to greater differentiation, higher expected equilibrium prices and profits, and a greater welfare loss.
