Book Description
The great temple known as the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan symbolizes the axis mundi, the Aztec center of the world, where the sky, the earth, and the underworld met. In this volume, Matos Moctezuma uses his unmatched familiarity with the archaeological details to present a concise and well-supported development of this theme.

Book Description
This Canon Rebel was more responsible for introducing autofocus SLR photography to a wide public than any other Canon. It's small, lightweight, easy to operate, and perfect for amateurs. And, whatever model you own--or hope to purchase--this will help you understand how to take advantage of all your camera's features, from the information displays to focusing and metering to choosing an exposure. There are hints on composition, and coverage of lenses, filters, and other accessories.
Customer Reviews:
A little bit more than the factory manual.......2005-06-28
I didn't find it THAT usefull. Just a little bit better than the original manual.
The big differences aren't really as big as stated... and there's nothign that you can't find on the internet or in a basic photography book. For me it doesn't goo DEEPLY into the camera functions or give real life use samples.
Beats the Manual!.......2003-01-03
Being new to the SLR-world, I bought this book because the owner's manual was horrible. I was absolutely clueless with the SLR lingo (aperture, shutter speed, f-stop, etc.)
Although this manual was a great help, I would still recommend the novice user to sign up for a course at the local community college or through the county, if such programs are available in their area. I took a 10-week class through my county's recreation center that was very helpful. Nevertheless, I still reference this handy booklet from time to time and the compact size makes it easy to carry around; mine lives in my camera bag.
Decent features at decent price.......2002-12-31
Good camera with excellent results during day time. Results in the evening or night time vary drastically. It definitely needs an additional flash light to repeat its good performance during the night time. Very light in weight compared to other competing models. Also in my exprience works very well with Kodak Gold 200. Its a good camera to have for the first timers with SLRs.
Excellent book if you already own any Model Canon EOS.......2002-10-17
This book purports to aid in choosing and operating an EOS Rebel 2000 camera. Henninges and Snell explain each feature and function of the camera in exquisite detail. While this book is a boon to EOS owners it is of little or no help to someone still in the shopping stage.
Useful manual.......2002-10-09
This is a great replacement for the original manual. It goes into much more detail than the original manual, and I was impressed with the one that came with the camera, as it was similarly well-written, and Canon seems to have taken more care in producing it than most manuals, as if they really want you to learn the basic and technical features of the camera to make you a better photographer. I would recommend you read the original manual first, and then buy this book if you want more information.
Since we're on the subject of the EOS Rebel 2000, I thought I would make a few comments about the camera too. I bought my EOS Rebel 2000 several months ago and already am extremely satisfied with it. I've taken a couple of short trips in that time and have run several rolls of film through it, and the photos came back nice and sharp. The only thing I could have done better in the photos was to use some exposure compensation. On one of the trips I was shooting wildlife at a beach on an overcast day, and even then, the sand was reflective enough so that the some of the subjects were a little dark and looked somewhat silhouetted. I was aware of many situations where you need to use backlight compensation--for example, I remembered to use it when shooting a stream at Yosemite with the sun shining from the side and glinting off the waters--but I didn't think that on a very overcast day I needed to worry about it, even shooting against fairly light-colored sand. Well, I admit I am still learning technically and I learned something there.
Happily, this little camera gives you manual control over shutter speed and aperture, as well as many other nice features, such as depth of field preview (which even the ELAN II lacks), and a respectable 1/2000th of a second top shutter speed. If you've been mostly a point and shoot camera owner until now, your fastest shutter speed will only have been about 1/500th of a second, unless you own one of the Contax point and shoots such as the T2, which go up to 1/700th of a second, but cost about 5 times as much as even the more expensive and capable point-and-shoot cameras. Then at the extreme high end there's the Rollei QZ 35W, which, although a superb "cadillac point and shoot," weighs in at 22 ounces, and at about twice the price of even the T2, will truly cost you a pile of green stuff. But it's a great camera too and has an amazing 1/8000th of a second top shutter speed.
I'm getting used to the controls, which are a little different from my Rollei QZ35W. The jog wheel feature, for adjusting ASA settings and so forth, I find an interesting feature which I'm more used to seeing on Palm PDA clones such as the Sony CLIE, but I find I like it here, too.
In addition to the lens that came with it, I found a Tokina ATX 25-70 mm constant F2.8 Pro Series lens used at a great price, and decided to buy it for the little EOS Rebel. The camera fits comfortably in my hand, if I have one complaint, it's that the grip on the right side is a little small for me with the much bigger Tokina lens mounted, but it's okay.
To give another plug here for this great little camera, a friend at local camera shop says he knows a pro photographer at a large newspaper who uses nothing but EOS Rebel 2000 bodies, and he just puts his $3000 pro lenses on it. He says they're capable enough to do anything he wants, but cheap enough so he doesn't worry about hurting them. He carries 3 of them at a time with him, and if one has a problem, they're cheap enough so he just throws away the malfunctioning one and grabs a new one out of his bag.
One final thing, as I mentioned above, the original manual is really well written, very clear and concise. They seem to really want you to learn and make use of the camera's features to make you a better, more technically aware, photographer. So be sure to read the manual. Then follow it up with this book.
I've found this to be an exellent little camera at a very reasonable price given all the features Canon has packed into it. Canon has produced an outstanding value and a very capable camera in this little package. I can recommend this camera without reservation, especially if you're considering moving up from the point-and-shoot category to a camera with more advanced features.
Book Description
The Rebel 2000 is ideal for beginners, and they will particularly benefit from the information presented here and the opportunity to explore the inner workings of every feature. Of course, there’s plenty of guidance on Canon’s extensive array of lenses and accessories, which open up a world of creative potential, and a thorough explanation of the unequaled autofocus system. And the number of buttons and dials on the camera won’t seem daunting once you’ve read the reassuring operational guide.

Good reference material........2006-07-06
As someone that inherited Rebel 2000 bodies without owner's manuals, this book is a godsend.

Simple story, complex illustrations.......2004-09-01
I've had this book for many, many years, and I'm always struck by the simplicity of the story and the complexity of the illustrations. The lovely black dog in the story is an unsung hero who saves a baby floating away in the rain. I named my black lab Bruno after the dog in this story.
Many of Edward Gorey's stories are too adult or too black for children. But if your child is thoughtful and imaginative, I would recommend this one.
This is a must for Gorey collectors.
And for the one person in the universe who doesn't know this, Gorey began the beautiful black and white illustrations used on Public Television's Mystery series (he didn't finish them because he died).
Joy for any one who likes rain, umbrellas and small towns........1999-09-19
In this book we spend one Thursday in a small English town where, ofcoarse, it is raining. People stand with umbrellas in the streets, lose their umbrellas, go to buy umbrellas and visit neighbours homes to borrow umbrellas. The pictures are very light, but EG makes up for this by making atleast one object in each scene solid black.

Book Description
Here at last is the first-ever encyclopedic picture book of JIT. With 218 pages of photos, drawings, and diagrams, this unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at actual production and assembly plants illustrates exactly how JIT looks and functions. It shows the way each area of a JIT plant is set up and provides hundreds of useful ideas you can implement, including:
- Multiprocess handling
- Cell technology manufacturing
- One-piece flow
- Quick changeovers
- Visual control systems
- Kanban and andon
If you've made the crucial decision to run production using JIT and want to show your employees what it's is all about--this book is a must. The photographs, from various Japanese production and assembly plants, provide vivid depictions of what work is like in a JIT environment. And the text, simple and easy to read, makes all the essentials crystal clear.
Truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. You won't find a more accessible or enjoyable introduction to JIT anywhere. It's obvious why this is already one of our most popular books.
Customer Reviews:
Great pictures and examples, no nonsense language.......2004-10-19
This is a very nice overview of lean, or "just in time" as this was referred to in 1988 when this book was published. There are many great "before and after" examples in the book that illustrate many lean principles. There are nice diagrams that show how the different lean tools fit together and support each other. Downsides to the book are that the pictures from Japan (with kanji character signs), which might turn off people in some American factories, and some terminology issues (what's commonly called "takt time" is referred to as "cycle time" in this book, which might cause confusion). I have dozens of lean books, but enjoy this book for the historical context (it's a very early lean book) and for the specific examples and lessons I can learn from in my plant's lean efforts.

Book Description
Another new book in the popular and original series of pictorial guides - John Oakland cuts through the complex concepts and confusing jargon associated with implementing Total Quality, and Peter Morris presents the information in his inimitable pictorial style. This book will show students and managers what they need to understand about TQM in the simplest, clearest and most memorable form.
Professor John Oakland is undoubtedly the British guru of quality management. Following a successful industrial career in research and production management, he has developed a pragmatic approach to introducing TQM which he and his colleagues have used successfully in literally thousands of organizations. He is founder and Executive Chairman of OAKLAND Consulting Plc. and Head of the European Centre for TQM at the University of Bradford Management Centre. Also published by Butterworth-Heinemann are John Oakland's bestselling Total Quality Management (now in its second edition) and Cases in Total Quality Management. Peter Morris is the creative force behind the illustrations in all Butterworth-Heinemann's pictorial guides. Originally trained as an art teacher, he spent several years as an industrial designer in Canada before returning to England to design educational and training materials for the University of Sussex. His experience working on industrial contracts convinced him, quite rightly, that cartoons are frequently the best way to illustrate the abstractions of business life.

Customer Reviews:
Oakland and Morris simplify a Complex Topic.......2001-07-05
I'm working on writing a guidance document on developing quality systems for use by the Environmental Protection Agency. In the process, I've reviewed a lot of books on quality (e.g., Deming, Juran, Crosby, Goetsch and Davis, Beckford, Dobyns and Crawford-Mason, and Oakland to name some). Discussions of quality can get pretty abstract quickly. Sometimes it feels like I'm in a quality fairyland that's mostly separate from everyday life. Oakland and Morris have presented this very complex topic in terms that most people can understand. The abundant graphics explain as much about quality as does the clear text. This book serves as a good starting point for understanding how quality concepts and tools can be applied in everyday workplaces. If necessary, one could then read other books for more detailed information about quality systems. My only quibble is that this book needs a list of suggested reading for more detailed information about quality concepts and tools. Oakland's other books are pretty useful themselves and could have been mentioned.

Book Description
Cigarette smoking is risky. Yet, official epidemiologic evidence indicates that less risky cigarettes are both desirable and feasible. Indeed, during the '70s, the National Cancer Institute, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the US Department of Agriculture, and the cigarette industry cooperated in an intensive and promising program to develop less hazardous cigarettes.
That program was shut down in the late '70s by intervening abolitionist policies aiming at a smoke free America by the year 2000. Predictably, those policies have failed and by the end of the '90s the number of smokers in the US alone has stabilized around 50 million. Thus, countless preventable illnesses and deaths could be attributed to an abolitionist intransigence blind to the opportunities of less hazardous cigarettes.
The world could do well without tobacco, but over a billion people on the planet will continue to smoke for a long foreseeable future. Declaring cigarettes illegal would only succeed in creating an illegal black market with ugly consequences. In the US such realities have led virtually all States and the tobacco industry to negotiate settlements, with the open acknowledgement that smokers are here to stay.
The settlements guarantee a steady stream of hundreds of billions of dollars into federal, state, and local revenues, predicated on a continuing, thriving, and legal cigarette market. On ethical grounds, these new official arrangements could not avoid raising again the moral obligation to reconsider less hazardous cigarettes, and their once tragically rejected opportunities. A program in this direction could be funded with a negligible fraction of tobacco tax revenues, and could prevent millions of premature deaths even if only partially successful.
