The final section of the book is an illustrated catalogue of all extant Louis Sullivan drawings, some never before published. From his student sketches to intricate studies of ornamentation, the drawings follow Sullivan's evolution as an artist, architect, and social critic.

Great book!.......2007-08-08

I always refer to customer evaluations before deciding to buy a book and this is no different. Honestly, I have never been disappointed so far! This is a great book for all portrait photographers. It gives us a good overview of the techniques of the different masters considered to be the best there is. This is a good book! It should have been titled an overview of marter portrait photographer's techniques....grab one and you will never be disappointed!

Masterpiece work by Michelle--again!.......2007-04-13

Michelle takes you through the photographic lighting styles of some great photographers-this is a must buy if you'd like to look how various top photographers see lighting in different scenarios. I know, as I'm not only a Lighting Master at the annual Photo Plus Expo in New York, but I'm one of the chapters in this book.

Many photographers today spend thousands on camera bodies that change every Monday when the Board of Director's meet, yet they buy cheap lights. Hopefully this book will show you why lighting is to an image what the blood is to your body--without either, you have nothing. This is a must read for anyone interested in photography at every level.

Other great books, of course my own, Garage Glamour: Digital Nude and Beauty Photography Made Simple plus my latest, Rolando Gomez's Glamour Photography: Professional Techniques and Images and keep an eye out for Michelle's newest book coming out later this year! Not What I Thought It Would Be.......2002-01-08

This book definately did not live up to its average four star rating. As a pro photographer I can tell you that it lacked any detail regarding exposures, exact positions and angles of lighting, posing techniques and a number of other important areas of portraiture. A number of the examples were written in German, many of the lighting products were from Europe, and only one of the photographers profiled was from the U.S., which is important in regards to accepted styles.If you want basic pictures of lighting set-ups and ideas for using films that are no longer very popular, this is the book for you.

Solid lighting concepts for portraits.......2000-12-09

Photography is painting with light and this book goes to great lengths to detail exactly how the portraits were shot. Through traditional definitions, birds-eye drawings, and technical notations, this manual provides the blueprints to photographs that compliment the nature of the subject through command of the luminous environment. Truely a wonderful book that has taught me a lesson from every page.

Good, But Not a Real How-to-Do-It book.......2000-03-20

It's a well done book of its type-good photos, good lighting diagrams, and high quality typography. But like most of its genre it does not give the "nuts and bolts" of how to set up and run a photo studio. For this I find the books of Scott Smith to be outstanding.

Not For The Amatuer.......2000-03-01

This outstanding book title says it all...with an emphasis on PRO. With few exceptions this book addresses studio lighting. The lighting techniques are explained well and in detail. However you will need significant lighting equipment to employ the techniques identified.

Mandatory resource for any serious amateur or pro photograph.......1999-09-18

This is by far the best book of it's kind. Excellent diagrams and descriptions walk you through the "hows", but more importantly the "whys" of creating dramatic and interesting lighting effects. A variety of set ups are used from existing light to 7-light set ups. Tungsten, strobe and quartz lighting, and even camera mounted flash examples are given. I would've liked a little more information on how to meter the various scenes and occasionally more description of how certain unusual effects were created but it is a mandatory resource for anyone who is serious about their portraiture and wants to be able to expand their current repetoir.
