Mako's presents us with his latest collection of handsome young men in this Stonewall Inn Pocket size edition book. There are 48 photos of young, attractive men covering a wide range of head shots, formal compositions, and in your face nudes. Mako's has a keen eye and talent for bringing the stark reality of the male nude in natural poses to his audience. It makes you wonder what these guys are really like or would that destroy the fantasy. Just look at the facial expressions.
Stonewall put out a series of these small pocket size books by many photographers. A great idea, and "Makos" is one of the best in the series and I highly recommend it.

Capturing the pure beauty of the male body in its perfection and glory is not enough for Makos. Using the influence of his close personal friend, Andy Warhol, he replicates the body over and over seeming to worship the divinity in which the human body can achieve. However, these images are brought together in a naturalistic manner. Not in a perfect straight line but in organic forms almost seeming to remind us of our own natural state. INTENSELY SCHOLARLY COLLECTION OF POSITION PAPERS FROM THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF SOCIO-RELIGIOUS STUDIES.......2006-11-30
Anyone interested in or practicing evangelization in the Latin American field would do well to consult this highly academic series of reports of this meeting held in Havana, with papers published in Mexico, so you fear no violation of the continued 45 year USA war of attrition against that tiny island in the purchase of this valuable tome.
This book studies present ecclesialogical developments in Latin America, as tied to the new monopolistic and multi-national corporate global economy in particular, in the typically highly academic style of Cuban scholastic papers. The book is polyglot and thus of interest to any reader. Although the vast majority of articles are in Spanish, Portuguese is also represented as well as two in English.
One such English-only article is the learned yet lively piece by Andrew Chestnut of the University of Houston's Department of History entitled, Faith in the Free Market: Prospering in Latin America's New Religious Economy.
Chestnut cleverly uses free market models to describe how sects and congregations compete for the spiritual consumer in Latin America, some of course known to have CIA backing (though not mentioned here). He alludes to the predictable disappearance of the Catholic Base Communities which twenty years ago brought hope for economic equality and justice to the poorest of the poor in LAtin America but whose greatest voices and leaders such as Archbishop Romero were either silenced by US bullets or like the Boffs and Bishop Pedro Casaldaliga silenced by Ratzinger in Rome, thus cutting off the Catholic nose to spite its face, leaving the mission field open to non-Catholic congregations. Rome preferred at that dark hour to turn the field over to other observances that supporting its own most effective and just and Christian workers. For a flavor of this important and insightful article by Chestnut, permit to briefly quote one or two paragraphs.
"In a competitive religious economy, such as the one that has developed in Latin America over the past half-century, there is no place for the type of shoddy products that lazy religious monopolists produce for a market guaranted by state coercion. THe invisible hand of the free religious market is as unforgiving with religious firms as it is with their commercial counterparts (Finke and Stark, 1992, 17). If, for example, religious consumers demonstrate a strong taste for more participatory types of faith (as they actually have in Latin America), those religions that restrict lay participation will either have to modify their products or face marginalization or even extinction."
Thus when Ratzinger republishes old speeches under the title "Handing on the faith in a time of disbelief" he must ask himself who sowed the disbelief in silencing the greatest Catholic voices (including the Sandinista) twenty years ago, sending the faithful to seek solace in other sects. In Latin America of twenty years ago the most hopeful development in line with Pope Paul VI's Populorum Progressio, etc., was the development of Base COmmunities, which built cooperative ventures in order to ease the grinding and hopeless poverty of those (and worse these) times. Yet through the encroachment of other sects of mysterious and hidden controllers the emphasis is no longer on our physical well-being, as urged by Saint James as well as by Jesus, but of a nebulous charismatic nature. Wojtyla's public scolding of the genuflecting Father Ernesto Cardenal in Managua sent a powerful and chilling message thorughout the Latin American Church, as did the unresponded martydom of Archbishop Romero who was so closely allied to the poor. Under WOjtyla and ratzinger peace, justice and opportunity for the poor would no longer be an issue. Thus after a discussion of the disappearing base communities "which, more explicitly and (self-)consciously than any other Latin American reoligious group, have adopted a 'preferential option for the poor' . . ." Chestnut concludes:
"At present, the type of liberation theology that predominates in the region is the kind practiced by Pentecostals and Catholic Charismatics, in which liberation (liberacion in Spanish) is conceived of not as freedom from socioeconomic and political bondage, but as deliverance from demonic spirits, or exorcism." (pages 216 ff.) Thus we see Catholicism and Christianity no longer fulfilling its meaning, message and mission of relief for the poor and the liberation in a very real sense of the oppressed, but reduced to a mere "opiate of the people," pleasing and confirming thereby only the Marxists for whom this definition or religion is classic, while they alone quote and make real the actual words of St. Paul and the Acts of Apostles: "From each by their gifts; to each by their needs" - the true heart of real Christian economics.
This book in sum is essential for anyone wishing clear insight into the present state of the "spiritual economy" of Latin America and for a new model in which to imagine our competing yet self-proclaimed "Christian" sects at work anywhere in the world, inclduing within the USA as they are bribed by Bush's so-called "faith-based initiatives" or bullied like our Church with threats of seriously debilitating and silencing lawsuits.

Rather than giving a bunch of formulas to use in Excel, this book actually tries to impart you some knowledge of real world.
While the knowledge maybe old hat for experienced stock analysts, it is NOT for new comers to the field.
And for the Excel script MBAs who try to reduce everything to an equation, sorry dudes.
This book attempts to make u first understand the purpose, goal, and results you would get in a analysis, and then goes about teaching you that analysis.

Colonia Housing and Infrastructure is a three-volume series, intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the problems and issues facing colonias along the Texas-Mexico border. Colonias are private property located outside city limits, some in nearby suburbs and others extremely remote. As unincorporated areas, colonias do not have local city governments. For many years the problem of urban water resources and affordable housing for low income families living in colonias along the Texas-Mexico border have remained largely unresolved. The three volumes address two main pressing needs: gaining access to water and wastewater infrastructure programs, and addressing the massively substandard housing conditions on the U.S. side of the Texas-Mexico border. Together, the volumes contain extensive information detailing the position of colonia areas presented in more than 150 tables and figures of original data not available elsewhere. The first volume of the report defines colonias and describes such conditions as the lack of affordable housing that have led to their growth. Besides housing characteristics, it discusses the problems associated with the lack of basic water and wastewater provisions in colonia areas. The study also provides information, for comparison, about border regions without colonias, urban areas, rural areas, and the state as a whole. The report concludes with an in-depth look at state legislation, with particular emphasis on the 74th Texas Legislature in 1995. It also provides some discussion of the many programs affecting colonias. Counties profiled include Cameron, El Paso, Hidalgo and Webb.

This report examines issues such as the history, environment, employment, income, poverty, work conditions, women in the workforce, and education of school children in these colonias and explores the applicability of several economic and state housing programs to meet their needs. It discusses three broad categories of economic programs that are potential sources of assistance to colonias: (1) general programs which focus on infrastructure problems, but not necessarily on colonia; (2) specific programs which focus on the economic development of the U.S.-Mexico border; and (3) colonia-based programs which are designed to stimulate economic development in colonias. The study also provides an in-depth analysis of the Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP), the types of energy sources available to colonias, and the subdivision and platting laws of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Volume 2 examines state, federal, and international programs which provide financing for new or improved water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure for the colonias in the Texas-Mexico border region. Much of the report focuses on the state programs, especially the Texas Water Development Board's Economically Distressed Areas Program (EDAP) and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs' Colonia Fund. The report identifies colonias which do not or will not have access to potable water and wastewater collection infrastructure even after the completion of the many projects currently underway. The study analyzes the methodology currently used by Texas to estimate colonia infrastructure needs, describing its strengths and shortcomings. It also examines the cost estimate for providing additional infrastructure for these colonias and makes recommendations for the legislature to consider when making appropriations decisions. The report recommends that the Texas Legislature consider (1) establishing statewide regulations that mandate utility provision of infrastructure prior to subdivision, platting and sale of individual home lots, (2) amending the EDAP legislation to allow individual colonias to make independent applications for infrastructure funding, and (3) appropriating additional EDAP funding for colonias with unmet needs.

b /b b i The Erosion of Childhood /i /b discusses the changing status of children from the mid-Victorian period to the end of World War I. The author emphasizes that their status was as objects to be used and abused, rather than as people with personalities in their own right. br br The book looks at the exploitation of children in the worlds of work, school, and home. Lionel Rose shows how conditions improved over time, but expresses an underlying cynicism about the reasons for this improvement. Technological advances displaced children from some trades, so that mandatory schooling became the only alternative to the perceived menace of youths idling on the streets. Schools were corrals where children learned by rote their often meaningless lessons, and teachers' earnings were related to exam scores ("payment by result"). Such methods aimed only to make the child more "civilized"--good factory fodder. br br In the last section, Rose compares the home life of the working-class child with that of his middle-class counterpart and finds that they both suffered, but in different ways. While the former was expected to contribute to the family income from an early age, the latter was segregated from parents in the nursery and boarding school, and subject to a highly structured upbringing.
