It is very good book for expert artist .But unfortunately ,basic thing for beginers in not there in book.Artist should touch basic thing & small object painting & then big size landscape.

AWESOME.......2006-08-30

This is my absolute favorite book on watercolor. Not only does it provide a lot of great advice on everyhitng from supplies to plein air painting, but the artwork is incredibly inspiring. Also, the artist explains his technique in a little blurb by every painting. I highly recommend this book.

Disappointed!!.......2004-06-23

I was disappointed with this book as an experienced watercolor artist. I am in this field for > 35 years. The author only focused on one form of light and shades. Light and shades are very exciting subjects as we can see in the impressionists' masterpieces. I only found very limited scope of discussions in his book.

Not for beginner.......2004-04-22

I'm a beginner in watercolour. I am not able to apply the techniques taught here.

This book can't work by itself. I need some artists to explain to me before I can understand the hiden secrets.

I think the writer should edit it and make it more comprehesive rather than showing it like Black Magic.

I bought this book because of its good reviews. But it is just not right for me.

Probably it is only suitable for tropical watercolourists. Only one kind of light and shadow effect was mentioned. The scope was too narrow. No much I could gain as a watercolour painter. It didn't fit the word 'Mastering'. But I could understand because many 'so called' masters could not write proper concepts.

Full of Inspiration.......2007-01-23

This is one of the best books available on watercolor painting. I consider it on par with Ong Kim Seng's book on painting light and shade by the same publisher. Mr. Zbukvic's painting are not only stunning and inspiring, but full of joy. He offers plenty of demonstration and examples in his book, along with explanations of his techniques and thought processes behind each painting shown in the book. Highly recommended for an intermediate painter.

An absolutely stunning book!.......2005-10-08

This book was far beyond what I expected. It is filled with photos, lots of instruction, the images are beautiful. Zbukvic very definitely does capture atmosphere. In his demonstrations, he'll often tackle a subject from three different perspectives or in different lightings. This is especially helpful if you are trying to make changes in your own painting but are not quite sure how to go about it. The artist admits that he doesn't particularly like green and downplays that in his paintings. This was reassuring since it is also my least favorite color and I was fascinated by the way he worked around it. The only tiny drawback I could see in this book is that Zbukvic is almost TOO facile, too good, but this might just be thought of as having a developed style. I would definitely recommend this book for new artists and experienced ones.

Excellent for Intermediate to Advanced Watercolorists.......2005-07-22

Zbukvic is a rising star in the world of watercolor. His art is magnificent! The cost of this book is worth it if it were only to have a coffee table collection of his art. However, I found this book to be extremely well-written and effective instructionally. The main thrust of the book is to examine the variances in watercolor application as it relates to the degrees of paper wetness and paint dilution. Using practical terms that demonstrate those consistencies, Zbukvic systematically instructs the student as to the instances in which each combination should be utitlized. I LOVE the fact that he does not bog down the experienced watercolorist with the token chapters on "Watercolor 101" skills. He does share his palette choices and typical technique pitfalls, but primarily sets right out into his technique demonstrations. The text is very interesting, unlike most watercolor books I have in my library. The only disappointment I had with the book is that, after reading it, I still don't paint like him! LOL!

Addressing another reviewer who criticized the book for using Australianisms like the word "tyre" and for supposedly mislabling a large painting with smaller dimensions, I would like to refute both of those assertions. The word "tyre" is the only Australianism I saw. There may be others, but it is most certainly not to the point of distraction. Also, if you will read the text beside the photo described as mislabled, it clearly explains that the smaller painting served as the springboard for the larger class demonstration in the other photos. The only slight criticism I have of the book is that much of the text is written in a light gray color which was difficult to read in the evenings under lamplight.

This man really knows how to create stunning images! This book won't confuse you with long chapters on color theory. What you will get from this book instead - is a firm grisp of how much watercolor pigment to use on what kind of surface (dry,moist,wet, damp) and what effect this achieves. I think this book is worth every penny.

Do you want to understand how to be a better painter?.......2004-08-04

This book has been waiting for you. You will learn how to "look", how to "see", how to paint! If painting atmosphere on your paper is your goal, this is the book for you. The water clock is an easy to grasp concept for experienced painters. It provides a kind of time line for your work in progress. There are step by step illustrations that keep you informed of all the conditions as the author demonstrates his complete control of the medium. Any watercolor student should buy this beautifully illustrated book for their library.

Reagan is out and George Bush and Little Danforth are in.......2003-03-12

"What Those People Need Is a Puppy!" is the thirteen collection of editorial cartoons from the poisoned pen of Pat Oliphant. These 172 cartoons represent his output from July 29, 1988 to July 10, 1989, which means we are dealing with George Bush winning the Presidential election and taking office. You can also look at it as the end of the Reagan years, so there is definitely a sense of transition here. Oliphant shows why he is the most widely syndicated political cartoonist in the world doing a job akin to hurling dead cates into sanctuaries.

Because these are chronologically arranged it is fascinating to see what catches Oliphant's attention. He is having dealing with gawky George Bush beating up on little Michael Dukakis, but then Bush pick Dan Quayle as his running mate and the cartoonist cannot stop writing and drawing about "Little Danforth" and imaging him someday in the White House. But the election does tend to get important and Oliphant pillories both of the candidates (in one memorable and brutal cartoon Bush and Dukakis are at the foot of the cross gambling over the clothes of Uncle Sam).

Once Bush was in office it was the traditional parade of scandals that make up contemporary American politics. Whether his target is Mikhail Gorbachev's glasnost policy, Oliver North's trial, or the fun with oil with OPEC and Exxon. You might have trouble remembering some of the events from this period, but the issues, from environmental problems to gun control to flag burning, are all going to be familiar. Amazing how little things have changed in so many ways since these fun times. As always, looking through these pages is a fascinating little walk down memory lane. Whatever happened to "Little Danforth"?
