This study will, first, document the historic contributions of women to American architecture; second, analyze the underlying social and economic reasons for the present situation by attracting more women to the profession of architecture. This book is part of the general discussion concerning women in this country; it is part of a trend and, hopefully, this trend will lead not only to further discussion but to constructive activity. One cannot deny the facts, but perhaps many people will disagree with the point of view expressed in this book. The ideas presented here are based upon research, interviews, and discussion with my male and female colleagues and, not surprisingly, there was a diversity of opinions, ideas, and goals, even among the women. The point is not that women are more likely than their male counterparts to have found the answers to the difficult issues confronting the profession of architecture, but that perhaps they are raising new and different questions which are pertinent to its future.

A must-have for the beginning photographer!.......1998-03-17

I went to the library and checked out a stack of books on photography and I also borrowed The New 35mm Handbook from a friend. Since I first picked it up, it has been the only book I needed to get started as a photographer. Not only does it offer technical instruction, but it includes a variety of helpful insights into the different aspects of the photography industry. My learning was enhanced through use of the many charts, diagrams and example photos that accompany the text.

This collection is a tribute to a most faithful, true Keynesian, who read, thought, dreamt, and promoted Keynes: Lorie Tarshis (1911-1993). This book is focused on the important impact of Lorie Tarshis's brand of Keynesianism on economic thought in America.

Tarshis was among the first to form part of Keynes's select 'circus', not only witnessing, but actually participating in the making of The General Theory. This memorial includes new reflections on the impact of Keynesianism in the making by many of the eminent early generations of American post-war economists: Galbraith, Goodwin, Kindleberger, Samuelson, Salant, Tobin and Perlman. While their contributions shed more light on how the participants in the process, Tarshis included, effected early Keynesianism, the volume also contains contributions by those such as Moggridge and McQueen who reflect on aspects of the process from yet greater distance. Holzman and Reder recount Lorie Tarshis's subtle contribution, and its direct impact and reverberations are reflected upon in the chapters by Colander, Dimand, Dow, Grimard, McCann and Perlman, and Parker.

This book will be of great interest to scholars interested in the history of economic thought and Keynesian economics.

In the immediate post-World War II period, Army aviation began to evolve from an observatory role to a mobility role. Helicopter air mobility began to develop in the Army from 1949 onwards. The outbreak of the Korean war assisted and accelerated the acceptance of greater helicopter air mobility within the Army. The Eisenhower period was a golden age for Army aviation, with rapid and extensive developments in air mobility doctrine and tactics. There was also a strong research and development effort to overcome the initial technological lag. These developments allowed the formation of the first air mobile division in 1965 to meet the growing demands of the Vietnam war. This work gives a new understanding of the process of military innovation. Moreover, this case study has important general implications for future military policy-making.
