This survey of contemporary landscape architecture may come as a surprise to those who imagine that the high art of garden design, which reached its zenith in the classically former gardens of 19th-century English manor houses, is an exhausted field. Guy Cooper and Gordon Taylor, partners in a London landscape design firm, have assembled a sumptuous collection of photographs of some 30 modern designers. Hazel Harrision has created a wonderful art instruction book that delivers more than I realized it would. Drawing, watercolour, oil & acrylic and pastel - just some of the sub areas of this book. It really will teach you somethng. I thought I was kind of an artist and after going through this book I found how much I did not know. I really needed this book.
I highly recommend this book as a gift to any budding artist in your life. No matter on little or how much they know - this book will be of value. It really is one great teaching tool. It is like taking a class on art.

Wyland Paint Kit.......2007-01-10
My 8 year old granddaughter did very well with the drawing part. She still does not seem to be interested in the painting yet. I think 8 years old is a little young for most for this type of kit. They are still in the watercolor stage, which for them is easier.
Great for Kids.......2003-05-25
Although I am 25 years old, I bought this book because I love Wyland's work and was curious about how he drew his sea creatures. It came with brushes, some acrylic paints, drawing paper, pencils, and a book giving instruction on how to draw and paint (all in a hard cover folder). It is definetly worth the price and would be a great start up book for kids interested in sea art.

Launched at the end of 1994, the EZ/EC Initiative (named for government empowerment zones and enterprise communities) is a large-scale antipoverty effort in which more than 140 inner-city and rural poor areas have been designated to receive federal dollars for revitalization. EZ/EC wages its battles on many fronts simultaneously: bringing back business and creating jobs for residents, rehabilitating housing, improving education and providing positive opportunities for young people, and restoring safety.
Under the guidance of veteran photographer Stephen Shames, forty teens participated in photography workshops run by EZ/EC in 1999. The photographs are accompanied by interviews with the teens, describing the ideas and motivations behind their image-making. The uplifting photographs produced in the workshops demonstrate that it is possible to change lives and revitalize troubled neighborhoods. Corporate Governance Regimes addresses corporate law's leading question: whether one or another corporate law regime possesses relative competitive advantage. To this end, the editors have brought together an international team of scholars in economics and law to critically assess the new theories of ownership and control which seek to explain the important efficiency advantages of dispersed ownership and the inevitable limitations of control-oriented systems of governance. Contributors describe and analyse the relative strength of the forces that shape the evolution of corporate law rules and practice. They also raise the issue of whether nations undertaking reforms should develop corporate governance policies that borrow from other systems' best practices, or pursue a course of internally designed corporate governance reforms. And, building on new theories of law and finance, they examine the incentives for introducing meaningful corporate governance reforms that disrupt or destabilize Europe's blockholding regimes. The collection is divided into seven parts. Part One provides not only a means for assessing the key features of market- and control-based systems of governance but a standpoint for determining whether national governance systems are likely to converge on a single, optimal system of governance. Part Two introduces the reader to the building blocks of European corporate governance and the securities law harmonization program. Part Three examines the complex ownership and control structures that are found in Western Europe, investigating the consequences of large shareholdings for minority investors. Part Four offers law and finance analyses of the relationship between legal and financial systems and corporate performance. Part Five looks at the economic perspective on the operation of the market for corporate control and the key legal rules and institutions of the bankruptcy and insolvency regimes in the USA and Britain. Part Six is devoted to exploring the economic effect of institutional shareholder participation in corporate governance in the USA, Britain, and continental Europe. The final section, Part Seven, evaluates empirically the executive compensation arrangements in the USA, Britain, and continental Europe. The contributions supply a pool of current research on the motivational effect of performance-related remuneration and the substantial increase in top executive remuneration in the USA.
