Don Reitz is recognized as one of the most important and influential ceramic artists of this century. Trained at Alfred University in the early 1960s, Reitz has pursued a life-long investigation of salt and wood firing of his ceramic pieces in order to preserve the energy and freshness of his artistic marks and gestures. Finding that the texture and unpredictability of salt-firing suited his work, Reitz almost single-handedly revived this neglected technique, and through long experimentation developed a range of colors and surface effects previously unknown in salt-firing. Juggling and manipulating the variables in each firing, Reitz is a virtuoso who relishes knowing what he can control and what he cannot. His work maintains a fine balance between technical mastery and improvisation. The Elvehjem Museum of Art (now the Chazen Museum of Art) retrospective features some seventy-four ceramic works that Reitz created between 1960 and the present.

Di Piero pursues his theme with an autobiographical force and immediacy. He fixes his attention on painters and photographers as disparate as Cezanne, Boccioni, Pollock, Warhol, Edward Weston, and Robert Frank. There is indeed a satisfying sweep to this collection: Matisse, Giacometti, Morandi, Bacon, the Tuscan Macchiaioli of the late nineteenth century, the Futurists of the early modern period, and the American pop painters.
Di Piero's analysis of modern images also probes the relation between new kinds of image making and transcendence. The author argues that Matisse and Giacometti, for example, continued to exercise the religious imagination even in a desacralized age. And because Di Piero believes that the visual arts and poetry live intimate, coordinate lives, his essays speak of the relation of poetry to forms in art.

I agree that there is nothing more heart warming than a polite little toddler. The illustrations are a colorful blend of good behavior. Although I believe the best way to teach a child is to lead by example, this book is a fun reminder of good manners!

Don't have time to put your darling little one in a dress and pig tails? No problem, there is nothing cuter then a toddler with manners. When my daughter says "Thank you" to waiters, or "Your welcome" to a thank you, or "I bupped mama, suse me." it melts hearts! The most amazing one of all is "Bess you!" when she hears a sneeze. I won't fully credit this book for that, but it is wonderful reinforcement. She loves knowing the answers on the other side of the page. If you are into manners, get this book. There is nothing more precious then a polite toddler. (It doesn't mean they will start listening)

I purchased this book hoping to teach my child basic manners when the appropriate time came. To my surprise the book was inaccurate in all but the first page. The colours are bright and the pictures are nice and big but in the copy I received the pages were duplicated and the responses did not match the statement. My book has no page teaching sorry, thank you or excuse me. I have a product I can do nothing with.

Good information, but very hard to understand and use.......2004-05-08

I purchased this very hopeful it would help me advance my playing. But, while the technical information is excellent, it's not easy to understand. Mostly it's just musical notation of lots of scales that directly relate to specific chords. Nothing really new or insightful.

As a REFERENCE book, this might be good, but not as a student workbook (the title says "Chord Studies" so I expected some form of lessons).

Another serious shortcoming is the lack of a CD. This compounds the problem of understanding WHAT the authors might be trying to offer as instruction.
