Nothing is perfect.......2006-10-03

I have to say I agree with (most) of the other reviewers that the photos are of excellant quality, the women are beautiful and it's for a good cause. The only slightly disturbing thing is that the amount of skin shown seems to be related to the "accepted" beauty of the model. By that I mean the professional models were all fully naked and obviously quite comfortable being so; while some of the other ladies were photographed covered up (although obviously naked). It would be interesting to know if the model was ill at ease in being naked or the photographers were sub-conciously suggesting a more covered up shot. Either way it's a shame that the likes of Sarah Ferguson was hidden under some sort of blanket rather than uncovered in the true spirit of the book.

All in all and excellent collection.

Very basic photography quality. Not very professional........2005-08-28

I was very disappointed in the quality and compositions of the photographs in this book. This book was published for a good cause but one would think the "professional" photographers would be more creative in their props and lighting. Save your money. Don't buy this book.

Four Inches.......2005-08-23

When I recieved this book I was very pleased with the sheer size and over all look of the book. Then as I paged through it I found all but a few pictures to be absolutely beatuiful, I didn't care too much for the toilet photos and maybe one or two others. I love black and white photos, I also have an obsession with choo shoes and of course I love jewerly so this book brought them all together so beautifully and on beauitful women. I am begining a career in photoghraghy and found this book to be very tastful except the above mentioned which were more silly. Above all else proceeds go to a great cause AIDS in women.

I agree that these women are not fashionistas. They are just women who watched too many Sex and the City and thinks they are authorities on fashion. I agree with another reviewer, I was shocked when I saw the photos of these women who you may picture at the local mall eating Taco Bells and shopping at JC Penny's. One of the authors need to lose some serious weight and let's be honest, being fashionable and looking great is hard when you are wearing a size 16.

Buy it for the photos- you will get a good laugh!

As the title suggests, this book is for fashionistas. It is not going to teach you how to better coordinate your wardrobe or develop your own personal style. If you're a fashionista, that is already second nature to you. If you want to have good, campy fun with designer clothing and better walk the walk and talk the talk of the fashion-obsessed, then you have hit on a goldmine. It's light-hearted and fun, full of good girlfriend-type tips about buying jeans and getting a bikini wax - stuff that Vogue doesn't tell you - that will enhance your fashionista-ness.

Too Opinionated.......2003-07-30

I was looking for a detailed history of the conflict in this book. What I got was a very defeatist look at every aspect of the war. The book also does not organize things very well. Sections are divided by years(1965,1966,etc..)they were supposed to cover but the passages within them would talk about subjects that had no relevance to what was going on in the year it was in. The book did, however, have excellent photographs and its descriptions of tactics used by both sides were very good. The description of actual battles can only be considered mediocre.

A very well balanced book (a rare thing indeed) which seeks to outline and present in both graphic and written senses the real truth behind the war. Particularly relevant was the perspective given by contributors from all sides - the press, the VC, the NVA, the MPs. Excellent photographs which capture the real sense of the conflict.

The book could have benefited perhaps a little more by expounding on the history behind the causes and the political reasonings of the war.

A good summary history with excellent weapons/tactics detail.......1997-05-19

This book is a British take on the American involvement in Vietnam. Originally serialized (much like the History of the Second World War series of the '70s), this work is distinguished by a large number of excellent photos, numerous sidebars detailing the major weapons used by both sides, explanations of tactics, and many eye-witness accounts from participants on both sides.

Perhaps because this is a British work, there is greater attention given to the non-American allies fighting in Vietnam, especially the Koreans and Australians. In addition, there are several articles written by members of the Vietcong and North Vietnamese Army, providing an unusual perspective on the fighting. The history takes you from the first landings of U.S. Marines at Da Nang in 1964 through the fall of Saigon in 1975, the Vietnamese/Cambodian wars, and a brief overview of Vietnam in the mid-1980s.

The general slant of the text is somewhat defeatist -- the editors (who are Americans) clearly believe the American enterprise in Southeast Asia was doomed from the start -- and the tone may disturb many who do not share this particular point of view.

More useful are the hundreds of pictures, a very complete index, detailed diagrams, maps and drawings illustrating strategy and tactics, and the liberal use of explanitory sidebars.

You won't want to use this as your only reference for the history of the Vietnam War, but it is an excellent way to understand how the fighters on both sides did their jobs and how they used their tools of war

Great Book, By Brilliant Combat Photog.......2007-05-28

This is a book that every photojournalist, press photographer, or combat cameraman should own. The works of Tim Page, not only highlight the personl hell that or soldiers msut endure in a time of war, but also those journalist who risk thier own lives in order bring home the story of our brave men and women who fight for their country.

Nothing Special.......2002-04-13

This was a solid effort by this photographer that has basically made his career out of the Viet Nam war. I thought the pictures were interesting and somewhat dramatic, but there was nothing that moved me a great deal. This is not a book that you will show off to each new person that comes to your house; it is a good overview of the war. If you are looking for a brief, general book then this is for you.

Excellent book on Classical form.......2007-03-27

This is an excellent book on Classical form. It covers, in detail, open and closed forms including Da Capo Aria, Minuet & Trio, Episodical, Rondo, Sonata, Abridged Sonata, Sonata-Rondo, The Concerto, Variations, and Contrapuntal forms (Fugue and Canon). Most of these are covered in detail I haven't seen in other books (though the writing on canon is very thin--if you want a book on canon, I recommend The Technique of Canon by Hugo Norden.) MSAD is dry at times, though a better read than most books on the subject. There are analyses of 25 Classical and early Romantic era works by composers including Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, and others. If you're looking for modern forms, look to other books. But the wisdom here would serve any new composer seeking to learn about musical form. As a composer myself, I consider this my 'form bible.' Highly recommended! Invaluable.

Great little book.......2002-10-05

Davie's little volume is a very concise and well-done book which serves as an excellent indroduction to this important aspect of music theory. I was very rusty on the subject, and needed a quick read to get me back up to speed. Davie's book succeeds very well, without a lot of extra detail and great technical difficulty. Davie peppers the text with lots of examples illustrating the different principles, and as a practicing composer himself, Davie knows whereof he speaks. Overall, an excellent little book to read and learn from. After reading this book, you'll have the background to tackle the weightier tomes on this subject, if you're so inclined.

My only complaint is the writing style is a little dry, and Davie is certainly not alone in this for technical books on music theory, so that's why the four stars in my rating. But I would give it four and a half stars if I could, since it really is a great little primer, and I haven't seen anything else that does as good a job in such a concise format.
