Learn with your children.......2007-09-01
This book was purchased for my son for school, but I purchased two to refresh my memory. It is a wonderful book.
Art Education Student.......2007-08-16
I am preparing to take the Art education part of the GACE exam. Not only is ths book a must but all of my professors encourage us to study it. The color photos are perfect and you could not buy anything better.
Great summary.......2007-05-13
This book points out the specifics of different art movements in a brief and informative fashion. Don't expect in-depth analysis of specific works, but you will get a run-down of the important names and pieces from significant periods in Art History. This book helped me go from a 4 to a 5 in A.P. Art History practice tests. I highly recommend it for the price!
The Annotated Mona Lisa.......2007-05-07
Excellent book for AP Art History review. I have used it in my classroom for eight years with great results!
Not what I expected.......2007-03-16
The type is different all over the page and makes for hard reading. It is not cohesive and seems to be just bits and pieces. Quite disappointing - considering it was "recommended" when I purchased other books.

A great tool for the watercolorist.......2005-08-03
Jan teaches us step by step how to transform pictures to paintings with simple insights and all the facts needed.
She shares years of experience with all levels of painters.
Each page takes us further along the path to being a better painter.
This is one of my favorite books in my art library.
Painting beautiful watercolors from photographs by Jan Kunz.......2002-06-09
It has a lot of information, but was not what I thought it would be....not enough detail
Simplifies the Painting Process with Remarkable Results.......2000-12-20
The best way to describe how valuable this book has been to me is this: when I pick up my brush, Ms. Kunz book is open and waiting within arm's reach.
She covers many techniques including collaging, proportional enlargements, and even tips for how to take photos for your subject matter. It also has many step by step demonstrations with each technique-building lesson. The book even has a chapter on most asked questions including how to paint teeth!
Don't worry about having pictures to get started because she includes a few in the back of the book and in each lesson.
Artist Motivates Me To Begin Watercolor Painting!.......2000-08-19
This book is a great guide for any level of artist! After checking this book out of the library several times and paying overdue book fines, I decided I couldn't live without it! I just purchased this book online.
What a great instruction book from Jan Kunz on set-up, photography hints, transferring and enlargements, combining photos, painting techniques and handling problems. This book has it all. She even includes sample photographs to get you started.
I'm just a beginner, but this book gave me the motivation to get started.
A Wonderful Reference Book.......1998-08-24
I love books that have lots of tit-bits of information, and this is one of those books. Although, some of the information has been incorporated from her other books, it's still worth getting. I find Jan to be very generous, and it shows in this book.
Customer Reviews:
Very good.......2007-03-09
This book has been taken out of the Library several times since I purchased it for our collection in Jan. My hobby is painting, and I thought the directions and examples were well written and illustrated. A very good book for the beginner to intermediate watercolor enthusiast.
Great inspiration!.......2007-01-06
Photos are wonderful, the demos really help one to see how to get from your photo to a painting - to see from both the photographer's eye and the painter's eye. For those of you that sometimes get stuck in the detail of the photo and want to loosen up - this is a very helpful demonstration. A wonderful kickstart if you're having a "block" too - you do WANT to paint from these photos! Happy Painting!
Rating On Paint Watercolor Landscapes from Photos.......2006-08-30
I really should ask for my money back on this book....it was poorly written, vague in description, the cover is great and appears appealing....this is not worth the price of admission.
Sorry.!!
Customer Reviews:
improve workflow and composition analysis.......2007-09-22
The book is a must for landscape painters and, in my opinion, is worthy for every other watercolor painter.
It's plainly explained, it has a number of helpful examples and covers different subejcts you will have to work out in every kind of watercolor painting.
One of the must important is how to look trough the camera to get your subject and not just to shoot what by chance is in front of you.
Another very good point is the analysis of when and where the camera can improve your workflow helping your creativity, but never replacing it.
Last, but not least, it has a very good analysis of how to compose what you see until you are sure it really is your subject: the one.
The book has full explanation of different techniques and concerns different issues of subject composition. It's not just a series of lonely landscape of mountains and some houses, with no living being.
Don Patterson teaches you how to seamlessly integrate animals and human beings presence in to the whole meaning your subject.
The only backdraw is that the book is not the "art academy kind": it doesn't teach you a painting method and then how to apply it to landscape painting. It assumes that you are a landscape painter fully knowing what you are doing.
In that sense I higly reccommend it along with David Bellamy's "Watercolour Landscapes Course" that has more the academic style.
A keeper.......2000-07-26
Every so often, you check out a book at the library, and turn right around and buy it for yourself. This is one such book. For those of us who paint from photos, this book is a must to have. The illustrations are crisp and the steps clear and easy to follow. From thumbnail sketch to final brush stroke, Mr. Patterson demonstrates how to create a vibrant painting from a ho-hum photo, and how to combine photos for the most impact. What a find!
Watercolor Wonders.......2000-06-21
Usually, skilled people are able to just do and not explain how they do - Mr. Patterson is an exception. In great detail, this book acts as a brilliant text for anyone interested in watercolor painting from the devoted student to the those with casual interest. Beyond the "how to" aspects, Mr. Patterson has been generous enough to include several plates of his own beautiful paintings - indeed, his technique works!

Close to being in Ranson's workshop.......2001-08-06
If you want to relive Ron Ranson's workshop--which I just concluded in Bend, Oregon--read this book. I plan to reread. Artist Ranson writes justs as he talks to his students. And the demonstration paintings take him less than an hour. So good, I am now going to reread, and I just finished his workshop three days ago. Dick Elam
Well worth studying..........1999-06-07
Ranson's concrete advice on how to use photos for subject material is very sensible. It may be true that the best way to paint landscape is "au plein air" but if you live in Canada there are eight months each year when painting outside would not only be a positive health hazard - but the water would freeze on the brush!! Hence I'm glad of a book which acknowledges real life. I produced a pretty nice watercolor in about ten minutes using one of his photos. Well worth reading.
Inspiring and positive approach.......1999-03-12
This is the second of Ron Ranson's book I've bought--I have the Skies book--and I really like both of them. This book is very encouraging and user friendly. Ranson put a lot of effort into the "how-to" aspect of this book and includes many practical tips and examples, always helpful. Some art books are vague about how to achieve the desired look, but this book includes many concrete suggestions that were very instructive. My only problem is not finding a hake brush I can use--they either shed or rust or both. I hope Mr. Ranson's next book will deal with painting water scenes (seashores, rivers, etc.).

Simple shapes used to create very complex designs.......2006-03-20
The patterns in this book contain so much detail that I found them difficult to look at for extended periods of time. The patterns are in black and white and they pull your eyes in several directions. My eyes bounded from section to section, as sometimes I was able to separate them and other times they seemed to blur together. Simple geometric figures such as circles, spirals, dots and triangles are repeated and altered to create diagrams that appear infinite in scope. If you are someone looking for a dynamic background for your artwork or a tile to use to create a larger backdrop, then this is a book you should take a look at.

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2005-07-08
Although this is not a widespread-known book, it is EXCELLENT if you want to learn how to use the EViews program and check the underlying econometric theory. It is important to take in account that this book teaches the basics of the program and that programming is not covered, for that reason, it is useful for undergraduate students and practitioners who are not familiar with the program.
Its explanations are so good and simple that even kids could read it. It includes tips that are not regularly taught in econometrics courses and that help you accelerate every analysis, especially when working with databases.
I would say there is only one caveat: As of July 2005, the book had not been updated to account for the features of the latest release of EViews (5.0). However, what this book covers is still useful because EViews has not changed the way it works, it has just added new stuff.

Book Description
The book presents a disequilibrium approach to employment, inflation and growth in modern macroeconomics. It integrates markets of products and money, and labor markets into a consistent macrodynamic framework which contains a complete set of agents and markets. The framework allows to establish and evaluate links to other approaches to macroeconomic analysis, in particular Walrasian, Non-Walrasian and New-Keynesian as well as to modern macroeconometric model building. Important issues such as endogenous growth, labor market dynamics and state or history dependent unemployment, Phillips curves, monetary policy rules and debt deflation are also discussed. The book is a useful reference for all researchers, academic teachers and practitioners of macroeconomic and macroeconometric model building who are interested in macroeconomic dynamics, independently of whether they use equilibrium or disequilibrium methods in their own work.
