Book Description
Since 1983, Bob Ross has been television's favorite artist. His Joy of Painting show captures higher ratings than any other art program in history, year after year. Bob's quick painting style and easy, encouraging manner reach millions of viewers around the world each day.
His third book -- New Joy of Painting -- is now available in paperback, containing another sixty of his favorite landscape paintings. Each is presented in full color, along with written instructions and detailed black-and-white how-to photographs. Now you really can complete your very own beautiful masterpiece -- you can do it.
"Remember, there is no failure, only learning," says author Annette Kowalski. "As I've heard Bob Ross say a thousand times, I hope you never create a painting that you're totally satisfied with, for it's this dissatisfaction that will create the motivation necessary for you to start your next painting, armed with the knowledge you acquired from the previous one."
Customer Reviews:
Super.......2007-09-01
As I have said before with Bob's white cover book. Bob has a step by step approach. His books are wonderful. If you have never picked up a brush or know how to read. You can follow his book. The book gives you that little push to design & make your own master pieces. He was a great great guy.
Good Instructions.......2007-07-12
I have started painting after seeing bob ross pbs episodes. All the books are good for learning and improving.
Very happy.
Bob Ross New Joy of Painting.......2007-02-21
I purchased used copy. It was in excellent shape.
Another good book!!.......2006-03-23
As before, each book is full to bursting with ideas and instructions to complete images. All are individual and well thought out.An excellent book yet again...!!
Painting Made Easy.......2004-02-19
Bob Ross' wet on wet technique is perhaps the easiest method of landscape painting commercially available today. This book is a step by step (albeit black and white steps) instructional guide to painting 60 different paintings in the Bob Ross style.
Anette Kowalski has been on Bob Ross' Joy of Painting at least once to paint flowers. She has regularly contributed to the other twenty or so books Bob Ross has written. This is primarily an instructional guide using photographs. However, there is an insufficient amount of time spent on technique. That said, this book is excellent for viewers who have seen Ross' show or have painted at least a few paintings to understand the basics of painting as Ross does.

Only good if you play RPGs........2007-05-07
This book is great if you play many RPG titles, such as Final Fantasy. It will hook you in and make you go online to immediately read what happens after the book ends. It is to bad the writer never finished the series, with only three or four comics to go.
Kind of nice..........2005-12-16
This is a Fantasy Game made into a comic. You have the Hero, the Bad Guys, the levels and secondary characters. There is a touch of humor, but most of it just didn't DO anything for me. The plot, like many a game I have played online, didn't go anywhere and it didn't go anywhere very, very SLOWLY. Frankly, Megatokyo or Misfile kept me interested til the last page and I am waiting for more volumes to come out so I can spend my cash on them. Those artists need to be supported.
RPG World was like eating bland oatmeal. I had to remember to come back to it again and again to finally finish it off. And I am NOT waiting for the next volume. I DO not plan to spend my cash on any more of these discs. It just didn't click for me.
A great start to an excellent series........2005-08-02
I've been following this series for over a year now, and it just kept getting better. If you're a video game fan, then you'll certainly recognize "Hero" as the archetype of all lead characters in every Final Fantasy-style game ever made. If you're not, then you'll identify with "Cherry", who can be counted on to point out the ridiculous nature of those same games (you can survive being shot in the head?).
Pros:
Funny, has a (weird) plot that generally continues throughout the series, and still appeals to those who prefer gag-a-day strips.
Start of the series, so you haven't missed anything (yet).
Art style stays consistant, even allowing for the natural improvement of the artist's skills (and yes, the art was pretty good to begin with).
Easier on the eyes than staring at the computer screen.
No annoying pop-ups when turning the pages (just had to include that one).
Cons:
The book is black & white; many of the strips are in color on the net.
If you don't have net access, then you'll have to wait until October to read the next book. Of course, if you're reading this, then you probably don't need to worry about that. In fact, forget I said it. Wrote it. Whatever.
All in all, it's a worthwhile buy. If you're not sure it suits your tastes, feel free to browse a few comics on the web so you can get a feel for it.
A true Level Up from average RPG Parodies!.......2004-06-26
This is the number 1 in RPG Parody. I laughed until it hurt. If your looking for a comic that makes fun of everything from EXP to random monster battles; this is the best.
Gain Experience in your Uncontrollable Laughter Skill!.......2004-04-15
Ian Jones-Quartey is a man whom, like myself, and many of you out there, has played one too many RPGs during his lifetime, and through the process of doing so has begun to see some patterns emerge, and it was these patterns that gave rise to one of the great webcomics. "RPG World - Disc 1: Unlikely Hero Out for Adventure" is the first compilation of a continual story webcomic that could be best described as what you would get if you shoved ever RPG ever made into a blender and then hit the Frappe button. Yet, despite the fact that much of the elements of the plot, and at times even the plot itself, are hillarious mockeries of a beloved genre of video games, the RPG, the story still also manages to have strength on its own and you will soon find yourself caring for our band of unlikely heroes out to save the world one random battle at a time. It is this powerful and endearing continual story, and the characters that inhabit it, that helps RPG World to rise above other RPG Parody comics such as "Adventurers" which is just a random gag of the moment strip with no continuity inbetween. On that note, speaking of Adventurers, volume 1 contains in full all 10 strips of the Adventurers/RPG World Cross over.
So go on and buy this book, your ability to engage in uncontrollable laughter will gain some experience points for sure.

AN AMUSING READ.......2006-09-21
This is one of those books that is fun to just pick up and read bits and pieces here and there. It does not really matter where you start or where you leave off. It is written with humor, but like all good humor, it bites rather close to the truth most of the time. While this in not roll on the floor funny, it will bring a smile to your lips and a chuckle. For light reading and an interesting take on life in the south, this is a good work.
Interesting view..........2000-07-25
This book is an interesting view of the "other side". Not only does it view Yankees from the Southerner view, but also Southerners from the Yankee view. Living in the South all my life, I'd have to say this book is frightingly true. Only thing I didn't like was how the book kept talking about a redneck beauty queen from Georgia. Otherwise, an overall good book. I recommend.

Book Description
Living Room Wars brings together Ien Ang's recent writings on media audiences to ask what it means to live in a world saturated by media. Ang suggests that we cannot understand media audiences without deconstructing the category of "audience" itself as an institutional and discursive construct.
Living Room Wars highlights the inherent contradictions of a `politics of pleasure' of television consumption: Ang moves beyond the traditional focus on textual meanings to explore the structural and historical representations of television audiences as an integral part of modern culture. Her wide-ranging and illuminating discussion takes in the battle between television and its audiences; the politics of empirical audience research; new technologies and the tactics of television consumption; ethnography and radical contextualism in audience studies; television and fiction and women's fantasy; feminist desire and female pleasure in media consumption; and the transnational media system.
Customer Reviews:
Living Room Wars. Rethinking media audiences for a postmoder.......2000-05-23
Written within the tradition of cultural and media studies, this book offers a wonderful resource for those interested in critical approaches to ethnographic sudies on audiences. The four chapters that constitute the first section present an in depth critical discussion of the assumptions of previous theories, research, and measuring methods used by traditional academic and commercial analysis of audiences. They situate the debate about audiences in the realm of the consumption of TV as a domestic experience and point out the limitation of those traditions which decontextualized the audience from their consumption environment. The second section provides strong evidence of how women negotiate cultural and personal meanings when watching TV. One of the articles, for example, deconstructs the traditional premise that portrays them as passive and alienated viewers of soap operas. This section intends to offer a solid theoretical basis to understand how gender is related to media consumption by giving actual examples of ethnographic interpretive research. The last section situates media reception in the complex landscapes of globalization systems. It emphasizes how local audiences "localize" global media by re-interpreting those "global" media in their local experiences, challenging the thesis of global cultural homogeneization hold by some traditions in sociology and media studies. Finally, I want to point out that the value of this book is not only the relevance of the topics that are addressed, but the solid academic base that supports their main thesis. Moreover, among the virtues of it, I can name the clarity of the language, the well organized exposition of complex ideas and, of course, the passion of the discussion that will definitely involve even those readers with no previous expertise in media or cultural studies literature. This book can definitely have a place with important advances in media and cultural studies such as David Morley's Television, Audiences and CulturalStudies or Shaun Moores' Interpreting audiences.
Book Description
Iraq War Veteran: "The Troops Need You, America." New book by military officer details how Americans can help US win in Iraq. A veteran of the Iraq War has written the first book to present an action plan for the American people to help our troops win. The book, already praised by military leaders and a member of the Iraq Study Group, is scheduled for release on March 14th-the week before the fourth anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom. "Americans want to contribute to victory but do not know how," said Major Eric Egland, author of THE TROOPS NEED YOU, AMERICA: Six Ways to Help Them Win From Your Living Room [Jericho Group, March 14th, 2007: $19.95]. "Now there is a plan of action that comes from the troops themselves. It empowers every American to support victory in Iraq." "As casualties rise and public patience for the status quo falls, it is clear that mission success requires change," Major Egland stated. "The conflict remains highly localized, though, so it is the troops who know what needs to change-not politicians in Washington or even generals in the field-and only the American people can make it happen." "Until today, many Americans believed their support was limited to prayers, care packages and bumper stickers," explains Egland. "Now soldiers on the ground are inviting citizens to do far more. The plan distills the grass-roots wisdom of hundreds of troops and supporters, from combat innovators to citizen activists."
Customer Reviews:
A map of how to support the troops in Iraq with today's methods.......2007-03-20
Maj. Egland is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and an intelligence officer who served on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. He offers a number of great suggestions on supporting the local community in notifying US Forces about roadside bombs. For example, now the military "rewards" such tips with script that has to be redeemed at a base, exposing the tipster to retalliation. Maj. Egland knows many officers use their own $20 bills for bomb tip rewards and suggests the distribution of cell phones (Cingulars work in Iraq) so that people can phone in anonymous bomb tips. He also says the current use of regular road patrols, while a good tactic in Bosnia to "show the flag," is only an invitation to bombers who see the regularly scheduled patrols as an opportunity to do harm. There are many other ideas, from having central databases for donations to the troops to databases of terrorist information. This book is a real eye opener on how to fight a 21st century war against a 21st century opponent equipped with everything you can buy online from Radio Shack or its European counterpart.

Best Media Critique.......1998-12-07
This is the best critique of television I've ever read. Written in plain, concise language with acute observations of the things television does and what the results are. Everyone near or with an interest in the media should read this.
Book Description
Through beautiful and inspirational photographs, Country Living's team of experts shows how to create a comfortable environment, take advantage of natural views, and incorporate color in the living room--and, as always in the Easy Transformations series, arrows and sidebars make the images interactive and easy to use. Home decorators looking to revive their living rooms will find a special focus on white-on-white rooms, colorful moods, displays, slipcovers, simple storage, and focal points. Want to encourage interaction among family and guests? Move the furniture away from the walls and toward the center of the room. Need to add warmth to the space? Try patterned kilim pillows and a richly-hued paisley throw. From modern living to cottage appeal, the look you want is here.
"Will inspire amateur decorators. Practical projects, such as pillow-making, are included. If patrons are looking for more ideas...[this] book will serve them well."--Library Journal
