Book Description
Breathtaking paintings and drawings from the Neue Galerie New York, which holds the largest collection of works by Egon Schiele in any American public museum, are included in this sumptuously illustrated book.
Austrian Expressionist painter Egon Schiele was one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. While his explicit nudes and self-portraits created controversy in Europe and America, his skill as a draftsman and his artistic passion are unquestionable. In addition to presenting superb reproductions of more than 150 paintings and drawings in the collection, this monograph traces the history of Schiele's reception in the American art world. It offers fascinating background information concerning Schiele collectors, promoters, critics, and followers, as well as the exhibitions, public acquisitions, publications, and other projects relating to the artist that have taken place in the United States. Essays pertaining to Schiele's life in Austria, the lost Schiele collections, and the censorship of the artist during and after his lifetime round out this stunning volume.
Customer Reviews:
Absolute Eye Candy.......2006-04-19
If you are buying this book because you are an artist or an art student and you really like Egon's art...you are going to love this book! The quality of the illustrations are excellent. They are large and the color is perfect. If you want eye candy more than something to read, again this book is perfect. I thought the book contained just enough text to make you knowledgeable but left lots of room for really nice photographic material.

Book Description
Oneil A. Williams is the new face of creativity in an increasingly global and multicultural world. Bilingual, widely traveled, and possessed of a depth of perspective that speaks to the richness of his experience, Oneil brings fresh eyes onto our world through his gift of verse. The Kaleidoscope of Color collects hope, love, beauty, wisdom, faith, and transcendence into a volume of poetry that promises to inspire and give pause.
Taking his guidance from a cadre of goddesses drawn from world mythologies, Oneil invites the reader to reflect on purpose, nature, growth, and death. From the blossoming of new life, beginning with contemplations of faith, The Kaleidoscope of Color joins us in our quiet moments of repose to celebrate life. Passion and sensuality captivate our senses, while reverence and doubt comprise our spirituality. Remembrance, wonder, and longing capture our intimate relations with others.
In The Kaleidoscope of Color, Oneil A. Williams invites readers to embrace their gifts and joys through the glory of language, communication, and the senses. The ancient spirits of goddesses - from Africa, Asia, Europe, America, and the Arctic - serve as muses to help organize his thoughts and feelings into expressions of promise. This poetic tour invites you to come along. Bring your self, and bring your dreams.
Customer Reviews:
Poetic Tour Inspired by Ancient Spirits.......2005-10-13
Oshun originated in Africa where she is known as the goddess of fresh water and love. She possesses varied attributes and is worshipped in Brazil, Cuba and Haiti. She is associated with money in Puerto Rico, where her symbol is a pumpkin. ~pg. 13
Inspired by selected goddesses from world cultures, Oneil A. Williams has organized his poems of remembrance, longing, intimacy and wonder in seven chapters. He begins this collection with eternal questions addressing deep human concerns we can all instantly relate to. The unique organizations allows the reader to relate to the specific emotions and desires inspired by the goddesses of life, love, spirituality, nature, immortality, memory and cross-roads.
In the second chapter Oneil A. Williams touches briefly on romantic notions, but his book is much more about a deep spirituality and at times he is having a conversation with the creator:
"We cry for water.
You send rain.
You cry for us.
We turn away."
My favorite poem in the chapter on nature is "Rain." There are also humorous poems, poems about friendship and even a poem about being homeless.
It's often hard to verbalize,
Just what it is to be a friend.
But you will surely realize
When one is with you till the end.
A friend is almost always there,
Through good and bad, through thick and thin,
And even when you cease to care,
A friend will give you faith again.
Throughout this work, the influences of Oneil A. Williams' travel experiences and enchantment with language is very apparent. He shows a deep insight into the conflicts life presents and his heart beats in his poems as he explores what it means to be human and what it means to love and to understand the world around him.
"Enunciate.
Don't hesitate.
Incorporate the cause."
In "The Kaleidoscope of Color," Oneil A. Williams celebrates his love for life, his passions and his connection with the creator.

Genre: Inspirational/Poetry
Title: The Kaleidoscope of Color
Author: Oneil.A. Williams
A Kaleidoscope is only complete if it has a myriad of colors. Without this, it is not a kaleidoscope. Intro: The Kaleidoscope of Color
Author and poet, Oneil Williams invites readers to embrace their gifts and joys through the glory of language and this book is truly a gift. Passionate and sensual each page is thought provoking and inspiring. From the inclusion of the ancient spirit Goddesses, the magnificent illustrations and photographs to the profound and mystifying words of the poet, this book is one readers will return to over and over again.
This reviewer's particular favorite is The Butterfly Garden
Amidst the sweet smell of flowers
Lies a garden of dreams
Where hope and inspiration take flight
And the world is at peace.
In this garden, there is radiant sunshine;
Solitude is as revered as the air we breathe.
This is the Butterfly Garden........
A book of unity, peace and the coming together of all peoples, the melding and blending of all of the colors of the universe into a Kaleidoscope of Color. Highly recommended by Allbooks Reviews. This book will remain in the reviewer's personal collection as a sign of hope for world peace and unity at last. Kudos to the author!
Beautiful Kaleidoscope.......2005-01-24
This is a marvelous first work from a prolific, thoughtful and talented writer. Amazing work.

Book Description
Handpainted in soft colors, postmarks still visible, old postcards offer views of scenes both familiar and removed. Like family photographs, they evoke memories of a happy time gone by and like family photographs, they remind us of what's changed. Collecting more than 158 richly colored postcards from the past, Greetings from Baltimore provides an entertaining, nostalgic, occasionally ironic, always changing view of the best of Baltimore, from about 1905 to 1955.
Here are steamboats along the old Pratt Street piersthe inner harbor that H. L. Mencken remembered as "so rotten, it smelled like a billion polecats"; the now defunct department stores at Howard and Lexington Streets; the Italianate Bromo Seltzer tower topped with the revolving blue bottle that had to be removed in 1936; the Patterson Park pagoda; the Shot Tower; Memorial Stadium in its shiny 1954 modernity and old, wooden Municipal Stadium, its predecessor; well-known restaurants and bars that have disappeared, like the famous Miller Brothers, Jimmy Wu's New China Inn, and Benny's, shown here full of servicemen and girls in 1945; long-gone amusement parks like Gwynn Oak, Carlin's, and the earlier Electric Park; and, of course, the Block.
"Creatively colored and not simply reproduced from photographs, old postcards are genuine pieces of American folk art. More than that, they are reminders of a world that no longer exists. Many sites shown here, like the old Baltimore Post Office, are long gone, and the city is poorer for their loss. Others, like Camden Station, have been resurrected and adapted to new uses. Whether you have deep roots in this wonderful city, or are visiting it for the first time, I bring you Greetings from Baltimore--from the Preface

Future Perfect (Dancefutures)
ASIN: 059512738X |
Book Description
Tori Baylor is a dancer and an animal lover. Or is she an animal lover and a dancer? On the first day of school, she discovers that her class will dissect a frog this year, and she gathers her courage to tell the forbidding Mrs. Stengle she doesn't want to take part. The new science teacher's rudeness comes as a shock, and Tori wishes she had a close friend to laugh it off with. Dance classes six days a week, however, leave little time for friends. Tori wonders if she should forget her dream of a ballet career and plan to work with animals instead. Her mother's arthritis is worsening, and Tori feels guilty seeing her limp off to work to pay for her lessons. She'd love to be an animal rights activist, if she could be brave enough. But not to dance how could I bear it? she asks herself. Her mother, who once hoped to become a dancer, has always told Tori and her sister, Be sure to have a second string to your bow, it meaning a second career choice. I do have twos, Tori thinks, dance and animals. But which should be my first-string future?
Customer Reviews:
Inspirational Dance Dream........2002-03-24
The Dance Futures series, is one of the most inspirational series that I have read in a long time. I found the plight of Tori and her dreams of becoming a dancer throughtout many hardships a welcome change. I do not want to ruin the story, so I will not elaborate further. Honestly though, I am 25 years old and I am still rereading the series.
A MUST READ!!.......2001-06-30
From the moment you open this book, Tori sparkles with life. Her hopes, fears and joys are so real that you are drawn into her world. Torn between her dreams of becoming a dancer and an animal rights' activist, she comes up with resourceful ways to combine both worlds. In an age of high technology, it is refreshing to see a character who uses her imagination, personal resolve and ingenuity to solve her problems. The story is told with warmth and humor and is peopled with many interesting characters, including Cody, Toni's first love. She meets him when he tosses his jacket over her in a rainstorm: "I'm still shivering, but now it's not entirely from the cold and damp. One jacket stretched over two people makes a wonderfully small tent . . . My life has suddenly turned inside out like a windblown umbrella! I struggle for something intelligent to say." Tori manages to find her voice beautifully in this intelligently written, heartfelt book. Corbett is a writer with many strings to her bow.
good choice.......2001-02-27
What a delightful read for young adults and "older adults" too. My husband and I are ballet afficinados, aninmal rights supporters and vegetarians. We applaud Ms. Corbett for her wonderful writing style and her subject content.
