Customer Reviews:
Cute, Cute!!.......2006-02-25
This is the perfect size for my purse and it has a sleeve that keeps the pages from getting beat up. It also has nice size squares for writing information in. Really love it.
Great! but has the same design as the 2005 planner ;(.......2005-12-28
I love ME's calendars and planners and I buy them every year for everyone in my family and all my friends. But I will say, and this is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, the 2006 planner is the SAME EXACT DESIGN as the 2005 planner! I look forward every year for the wide array of drawings and cute images, so I was disappointed this year.
Great mini planner.......2005-12-14
I have used ME's calendar planners for years. I like this version the best. ME's desk planner's pages are glossy, so any entries made in pen would smear when you closed the book. This purse calendar has more paper-like pages, so you can write and not worry about the ink rubbing off on other days. I also love the handy cardboard sleeve to keep it in---keeps the pages from dog-earring. Great price, sturdy, and super cute art inside each month!
Mary Engelbreit's Life...Put Your Heart In It: 2006 Planner.......2005-10-08
I discovered this pocket size planner a year ago. I liked it so much, I ordered two for 2006 - one for myself and one for a friend in New Zealand. The planner is a convenient size for carrying in a purse and Mary's characteristic art makes tracking daily events a cheerful and "fun" experience.

Book Description
In 1856, the English photographer Francis Frith set out on the first of three tours of Egypt and the Holy Lands. Traveling up the Nile and then on to the Sinai, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, Frith systematically crafted exquisite pictures of ruins, landscapes, and legendary sites. He then published his views in England and America in a variety of formats, becoming something of a celebrity in photographic circles. This book, the first to place Frith's Egyptian and Levantine images in cultural context, reveals the distinct meanings these ostensibly "topographic" pictures held for the photographer and his Victorian audience.
A Quaker by birth and an entrepreneur by nature, Frith brought to his photographic projects a sense of mission: to revive and confirm the stories of the Bible, while offering the region to armchair travelers as a seamless Oriental milieu of Romantic reverie. Francis Frith in Egypt and Palestine narrates the political, intellectual, and social concerns that make Frith representative of England's encounter with the East in the nineteenth century. Historian of photography Douglas R. Nickel brings a sophisticated interdisciplinary approach to bear on the subject in order to expose the complexity of Frith's image-making, setting the photographs against a Victorian backdrop of religious debate, imperialist thought, Romantic philosophy, and Pre-Raphaelite aesthetics.
Customer Reviews:
excellent writing, impressive scholarship.......2004-08-16
Though nicely illustrated, this is no mere picture book. Its real strength lies in its well written text and critical apparatus. Nickel's scholarship is impressive: the book combines a sophisticated approach to writing biography (Frith's) with just enough historical detail and Victorian cultural context to bring the ideas to life. Best suited to audiences operating above a fifth-grade reading level.
Dry text ..... Great Images.......2004-04-16
The text reads like a dry, doctoral dissertation that makes me thankful I didn't become a college professor. Passages like the following are prevalent throughout the book : "Moving from science to theology to philosophy and the intellectual history of the period, we can see how his photographic productions were explicitly motivated by the categorical imperative of religious faith." After translating this into "His images were based largely on his strong religious beliefs," you can, after some difficulty, get through the extremely burdensome text. The text also goes on multipe tangents trying to explain Victorian England, and the milieu that Frith lived in, but I found it overly burdensome and digressing.I found myself constantly trying to skip ahead of lengthy passages about Darwin's The Origin of Species and other digressing digressions.
The best aspect of the book is the images themselves. They are superbly produced with about as much detail from Frith's gigantic glass plates as I could expect a book to have. Frith was a rich man by the time he took his trips to the Middle East, and, whatever his motivations were, these images are historically important as well as having that Middle Eastern mystery I find fascinating. I wished that Nickel would have placed BOTH pairs of Frith's stereo slides into the book, rather than just one side and I also wish he had more images.

A Disappointment.......2001-12-22
As a long-time antiques dealer and one who collects and frequently offers Victorian photographica items for sale, I bought this book in the hope that it would be a useful reference. To my great disappointment, I found it to be a rather pedantic text that totally lacks the vitality and "color" of the Victorian Era in general and the photographic art of the time in particular. The writer's style and, indeed, the overall impact of the book are sadly lacking.

The Power of Horses is a wonderful, unique collection of memories of Country Music legends love affairs with horses. Each star has a different take on the influence their horses have had in their lives - both as youngsters & in later years. These stories are inspirational to many aspects of life.
This is a book that any horse person or country and western music fan needs to own. It is a difficult book to put down once you start reading. It is easy to read, well thought out and flows well.
This book is a must for anyone who has or is interested in horses. All the top country music artists tell about the good things horses bring to their lives. There are some great photos in the book including Brad Paisley, Kix Brooks, Lynn Anderson, Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, Clay Walker, and Tommy Shane Steiner. You will also find that the author has done an outstanding job of putting together the history of each of the country music legends.
The book is a great gift for kids or adults, is easy to read, the stories flow nicely and are very well written. I found it very informative as well as entertaining. Anyone who likes horses and or country music would REALLY like this book! Be sure to get extra copies to give as gifts!

WOW!.......2003-10-19
Get ready for a great read because this book rocks! If you love horses you have to read this book. Likewise if you are a fan of country music. The author does a great job in bringing out the emotion in these stories. Each person profiled tells how a horse helped them learn about life. The Power of Horses is very inspiring and uplifting, so get ready to feel your heartstrings pulled.
Ride With The Stars!.......2003-02-06
A great job of giving the fans a closer look at some of their favorite stars, sharing special moments and memories about one of God's greatest gifts to mankind-horses. Since history was first recorded there has always been a bond between humans and the incredible animal; which has meant so much to our survival and very existence through out the years. I don't think Lisa could have found a better way of bringing horses the recognition they truly deserve than by sharing some unforgettable stories from country music's finest stars. In her book, "The Power of Horses," Lisa proves that even in this modern age of mechanical genius, as we surpass our wildest dreams. People's love, inspiration and need of horses has never been stronger. If you are one of those millions who love horses then take a ride with the stars, you'll be glad you did.
