Customer Reviews:
Great drawing instructional book.......2007-06-26
With no formal instruction in drawing, I've had to learn the basics on my own and this book beautifully explains and illustrates perspective in drawing. It is great for beginners with exercises to help you grasp the concept. I would probably still be muddling around making the same mistakes without the help and guidance of this book.
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!.......2007-03-10
This book really is helping me to understand perspective. As an aspiring artist I had not a clue. I don't come from a background of having taken art classes all of my life so a lot of things did not make sense to me. My professor suggests this book from her syllabus and I have to say what a jewel it has been for me. I highly recommend this book if you are learning to draw as part of your library.
For the serious amateur doodler.......2006-02-25
Are you a serious amateur doodler? Want to take your idle doodling to the next level? Add some perspective and dimension. Dare to leave your next doodle behind for some one to find and marvel at. (go ahead and sign it so they can find you)
Why didn't I find this book sooner?.......2004-01-30
All of my adult life I've struggled with perspective drawing and I was determined to find a better way to teach my architecture students a method that didn't get hung up on technicalities. Using the exercises and examples provided in this book, my students' drawings skills have improved dramatically in one term. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has always wanted to learn the "mysteries" of perspective sketching.
Presented pain free.......2002-03-11
Drawing is the basis of making good art and perspective is the basis of good drawing. Phil Metzger presents the means for making perspectively correct drawings. Yes, it's without "pain" because the mathematics of perspective is not presented; but, to get it right the "pain" is in the practice. Where it should be.

Book Description
A wonderfully funny cartoon collection with a whole new slant on things Jewish -- from the evolution of Jewish man to the ultimate Jewish heaven.
Customer Reviews:
One man compilation of weird and wacky Jewish cartoons.......2000-09-14
Created by a Jewish cartoonist, these are sometimes controversial, sometimes even offensive (to those sensitive about Jewish stereotypes) but many are truly hilarious...and the book is definitely worth the money. Besides, I don't know of too many cartton books which focus on Jewish cartoons, so this one is unique in that respect as well.

A collection of darkly humorous tales by Julia Mandala.
Customer Reviews:
Another fun read.......2005-08-01
I had the pleasure of hearing Julia Mandala read "Redneck Wizard," the first story in this collection. It's sort of a backwoods Bubba in King Arthur's court, and it was another pleasure to read the story here. On first hearing, the story was entirely too good not to want to have a copy to keep.
"Worse" is an amusing little story about an elf prince who's supposed to marry a foreign princess and, after meeting her, would rather eat dirt -- not a normal part of the elvish diet.
The piece de resistance is "Dracula's Lawyer," the title story, in which a lawyer is hired by the legendary Carpathian prince to bring suit against a town for not hiring him as an accountant. Since he can't expose himself to sunlight to apply or to work during daylight hours, he's using the Americans With Disabilities Act to fight for the job.
Ms. Mandala has a knack of creating characters one immediately cares about and her style is clean and witty. While not heavyweights, these stories are a pleasure to read.
Customer Reviews:
Amusing, humorous, and informative read.......2005-01-03
I found Dracula was a Lawyer (underline that) to be extremely entertaining humorous, and not to mention informative. This compilation of facts concerning proffessions dealing with the law and the law itself often pokes fun at not only attorneys and lawmakers, but those who make use of them, i.e. moronic lawsuits and things of this nature. Despite the title, the book does not take a harsh prejudice against attorneys, and many of the facts actually glorify the profession rather than painting them as vampires. In fact, I didnt understand the use of Dracula in the title, because technically he was a lawyer, but only in the sense that any other absolute ruler would be in that they are in essence the lawyer, judge, jury and executioner. I thought this was a rather weak basis to title the book, especially when the book does not make a point to paint attorneys with the image of vampires, but rather takes an unbiased motive to simply display facts. But this not withstanding, the book was, as I said, very entertaining and I very highly recommend it to anyone interested in or dealing with the law, or someone looking for a pretty quick amusing read.

Book Description
This user-friendly guide covers a variety of issues such as choosing the right instrument, how to set practice guidelines, how parents can talk about music with their children, and ways to inspire children and enhance their creativity and confidence. Includes a list of frequently asked questions, a handy guide to musical terms, and lots of tables and charts throughout for easy reference.
Customer Reviews:
Answers to those questions!.......2005-09-01
I am an elementary music teacher, and it's my job to recruit 5th graders for beginning band. This book has all the answers to the questions parents ask. It carefully steps parents through deciding which instrument, whether to buy or rent, why private lessons are a good idea, what equipment your child needs, and suggested brands and models of good beginner instruments. I am purchasing several copies to lend to parents, and I'm requesting that the local library purchase several copies. An outstanding resource for parents, even those who are musicians already!
Do you have a young musician? Buy this book!.......2005-07-26
The other reviews for this book are excellent, but I can not stress enough how wonderful this book is. I wish MY (non-musician) parents had this book when I was in the 5th grade just learning the clarinet.
Packed cover to cover with valuable advice.......2005-01-07
Growing Your Musician: A Practical Guide For Band And Orchestra Parents is a straightforward resource for parents who may not necessarily know the first thing about music or instruments, but who want to help their musically inclined child achieve his or her fullest potential. From basic information concerning different instruments and how to keep them in good working order, to which "green" instruments are more sought after by college orchestras - and therefore are more likely to earn a tuition discount, to the importance of private lessons in grooming advanced talent, helping young people balance learning to play with other academic and extracurricular activities, and much more, Growing Your Musician is packed cover to cover with valuable advice. Highly recommended especially for parents who want to avoid hype and charlatans in favor of proven techniques to nurture their children's talents.
This Book is Fantastic!.......2004-06-16
Growing Your Musician is the only book I've seen that helps parents without a musical background help their children make intelligent choices about which instrument will be right for them. The book is full of easy-to-read charts and other material that helped me know how to encourage my son to practice and really get excited about music. If you want to help your child discover music through an instrument, in school and/or with private lessons, this is the book for you. It answered all my questions as a parent and now I feel comfortable guiding my child.
Every Begining Band Parent Needs This Book!.......2004-06-05
As an educator and lover of music myself, Bancroft's book is perfect for anyone
who is starting out down the music path. At the start of my own musical career
(which now includes numerous marching bands, concert bands, directorships, and
small ensembles), I wish that my parents would have had access to such a great
text. This book is sure to minimize parent headaches and increase student
enjoyment and musicianship. My highest recommendation!

Book Description
Clubspotting offers a quick and dynamic picture of the here and now of club culture, Italian style. No longer tightly bound to the Anglo-Saxon fast paced squeal of the electric guitar, today's twenty year olds move to the bits and beats of the sonic studio/laboratory where new instruments such as the PC Cubase and Sampler prevail. 'Club culture' is their catch cry, 'electronic' the standard form of expression. This totally visual book is the creative expression of a world that is non-political and post-hedonist, nervously wordless and volatile. It's a short journey that attempts to makes club culture understood, available and fascinating for everyone. Artists featured include Jazzanova, Howie B, Krust and Michael Reinbot. The book is divided into sections: Flyer Zone, Club Zine, Art Zone, Nu Directors and Clubs on the Web.
Customer Reviews:
A Critical Review of the Clubculture.......2001-04-20
This book is a visual testament which helps you to define the interzone among a "social space", the electronic music and the hedonistic attitude. A review of some of the most innovative artists of the electronic European scene such as Howie B, Grooverider, Nitin Sawhney and so on, lead you into the land of a visual generation. The book's aim is also the one to de-territorialize the culture of the club, seen far away from the usual and known routes of Ibiza, London or New York. From the point of view of the authors, the electronic music - as well as any other kind of artistic expressions related to the clubculture - represent an off-centre body with thousands of peripheries. A single and unique evidence of a very Italian elegant touch.
