Doesn't teach anything.......2007-03-17

This book is just an overview of computer animation. You can't learn anything from it. I was hoping for a vanilla instruction book because I own Carrara and Hexagon and I have to buy Maya or Lightwave books and try to adapt them to Carrara and Hexagon. The pictures inside aren't that great either - the cover has the best characters. For the money, I would rather have bought another Maya or Lightwave book.

Don't waste your money.......2007-01-23

This is a boring textbook. No real indepth stuff here. Not software specific and not helpful to people want to actually learn computer animation. If you want to "read about" and discover all the wonderful terms and the history of-what to call things then maybe. Don't be drawn in by its heavy use of well known imagery and pretty pictures. It just doesn't have substance. I wish they had renamed this book- with a subheading stating language and terminology.

Look at the firt edition which is now $6.00. Art is a learnt through application. A large point of understanding concepts is to apply them. This book lacks showing the latter.

Un gran libro , con ilustraciones espectaculares , este libro no tiene tutoriales ni habla sobre algun programa en especifico , une la forma 3d a través de los año , toma pasajes de la historia del mundo 3d hasta lo mejor realizado hace unos años .Es un libro de lectura y aprendizaje de un mundo el cual muchas veces entramos directamente en la utilización de programas como 3dstudio max ,etc y realmente no conocemos los principios y su evolución .Se divide en capitulso de animación texturización, modelaje ,etc y en cada uno de ellos habla de lo esencial de como lograr buenos efectos . Es un libro altamente recomendable , una joya.

I have not written many reviews but this book was a wonderful surprise. I borrowed it and have had a hard time giving it back until I get my own copy! I especially like the exercises that allow you to explore and practice on a small scale and see the wisdom gained by this spiritual practice. Highly recommended!

I love Mr Heaven.......2006-04-12

Ross Heaven is one of the finest wrietrs in spirituality. This is his second best book in my opinion, only dragged down by his collabration with a lesser author whos own work is questionqble. Mr Heaven makes some wonderful insights once again and this book taught me so much. I prase it hily.

This book is an absolute must for any C.J. Cherryh fan. As a collection of short stories, it does not have quite as much character and plot development as most of the author's books. However, it provides an intriguing glimpse into the development of some of Cherryh's best known characters, including Altair Jones of _Angel with the Sword_, and Caith Mac Sliabhin from _Faery in Shadow_. If you're a Cherryh fan, you'll love this book.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Night vision sensors, such as image-intensifier (II) tubes in night vision goggles and forward looking infrared sensors (FLIR) are routinely used by U.S. naval personnel for night operations. The quality of imagery from these devices however, can be extremely poor. Since these sensors exploit different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, the information they provide is often complimentary, and therefore, improvements are possible with the enhancement and subsequent fusion of this information into a single presentation. Such processing can maximize scene content by incorporating information from both images as well as increase contrast and dynamic range. This thesis introduces a new algorithm, which produces such an enhanced/fused image. It performs adaptive enhancement of both the low-light visible (II) and thermal infrared imagery (IR) inputs, followed by a data fusion for combining the two images into a composite image. The methodology for visual testing of the algorithm for comparison of fused and original II and IR imagery is also presented and a discussion of the results is included. Tests confirmed that the fusion algorithm resulted in significant improvement over either single-band image.

The life of Johann Sebastian Bach - straddling two centuries and placing an indelible mark on the development of symphonic music - is a complex and multifaceted saga, but Professor John Butt and his talented crew of co-authors get straight to the bottom of it. Bach grew up at the tail end of the 16th century. As a young student at the Latin Grammar School (where Martin Luther himself once studied) he was a classic child prodigy, dismissed by jealous teachers as excessively cheeky, and simultaneously made the butt of cruel jokes concocted by the lesser students who were deeply behind him. To make things far worse, both of his parents died when he was only nine, and for a period he was reduced to selling buns in the street and living in an abandoned caboose. However opportunity opened the door just a crack when he was a late teen. This came when he moved to the small town of Arnstadt to try his hand as an organist - a fateful journey during which illness and hunger almost took him, until a kindly cattle-farming family nursed him back to health on a hearty diet of potatoes, rump roast, and healthy dairy air. At Arnstadt he wrote most of his best-loved early pieces, and while he toiled in seeming anonymity at the rear of the church, the congregation was truly over the moon about him, often straining to hear his gentle melodies over the odious sound of the preacher muttering darkly about Sodom and Gomorrah. At the time the town was a real hole, but Bach's uplifting passion for music rectified the situation for him and kept him from going under. Soon many of his most famous baroque pieces were in the can. Bach's longest residence was of course in the city of Leipzig from 1723 to 1750, where he progressed from early middle age until his doddering later years as an old duffer. It was in Leipzig that his met his longtime Welsh companion, Fanny W. Tokus, who was to so ease his journey into the ranks of the elderly. Professor Butt's thoughtful scholarship made this book a real gas to read, and it's uplifting to think that someone so handicapped by his very nom de plume could persuade such an erudite and impressive group of credentialed co-writers to hitch their wagons to his tailpipe.

another great oxford companion.......2000-04-01

For those familiar with the "Oxford Companion to ..." series, you will see that this lives up to the name. There is a lot of good information on his works and life here. I only give it 4 stars because it works better as a reference-type book to scroll through once in a while, and not quality literature to read in a few sittings.

During the course of his anything but linear career, characterized by recurring excursions into other cultural areas including music, film and theater, painting has remained the most constant element in Andreas Dobler's activities. In his youth, he was strongly influenced by pop music, psychedelic culture and its ties to the neo-surrealism of the 60s and 70s, as well as science fiction and comic aesthetics. He continues today to mine both media-oriented and popular culture, his taste for fantasy art and culture, ordinary subjects, the phenomena of pop culture and the aesthetic fringes of art having proven an abundant source for his figurative painting. More and more questions have surfaced in the past decade concerning the wisdom and fairness of affirmative action programs. In this book, Lynch takes a hard look at affirmative action policy development and the social and ethical implications of a system that promotes gender and race as criteria for vocational advancement and educational opportunity. He focuses on the experiences of white males who have been victims of reverse discrimination under such programs and explores the lackluster response from government, the media, and employing institutions. Lynch examines the political taboo that for two decades effectively stifled discussion of the issues that affirmative action raises in both public discourse and scholarly analysis. He reviews the original ideals and purposes of affirmative action and contrasts them with the program as it has actually operated in everyday work settings. In case studies based on interviews and other data, Lynch assesses the reactions of white males to affirmative action social barriers, as well as their impact on co-workers, friends, and relatives. He describes the role of the mass media, the social sciences, and ideological elites in creating a conspiracy of silence concerning the hidden and unintended consequences of affirmative action policies. Academe & the Politics of Race and Gender.......2007-04-18

The word "quotas" is largely avoided, because public opinion polls found that 80% of the public opposed them. Instead, we hear of affirmative action (AA), equal opportunity employment, and the goal of diversity in higher education and the workforce. AA at work in the workforce, & reverse discrimination suits filed by white males, are well-known and occasional news items; likewise, instances of white males passed over for promotion are also known. But the insidious nature of race-and-gender preference as the determinative principle in academic hiring has not received the attention it deserves.
Lynch describes how affirmative action began as a series of directives designed to encourage recruitment of qualified minorities and women. Under this version, women and minority applicants would compete on a non-discriminatory, colorblind, and gender neutral basis. Today, a more radical version of AA exists, in which women and minorities are to be hired in proportion to their numbers in the general population. What was once a temporary, transitional expedient to redress inequalities has become a permanent, institutionalized feature of academic hiring practices.
Proponents of AA identify white males as the past perpetrators of discriminatory hiring and promotion practices. That present day white males might suffer loss from AA seems justified. But as Lynch notes, older white elite members imposed AA quotas upon white, working, middle class baby boomers and, to a growing degree, their children.
The generational cleavage between white male perpetrators of discrimination and present white male victims of AA has been ignored. Why should the latter group redress historical inequalities an earlier generation created?
The hypocrisy of the whole situation needs to be underscored. The very universities that accept gifted students into their graduate programs--including many white males--were the first to shut out white males when job opportunities arose.
Part of the American dream is that education is the key to unlimited opportunities. But just be sure to check your sex and skin color first.

Affirmative Genocide.......2003-07-10

Frederick Lynch has done an excellent job of exposing the US Democratic party's betrayal of its's white electorate in enforcing Affirmative Discrimination without a mandate.
The lives of an entire generation of white American males were severly damaged by this evil and unjustified racial engineering program.Lynch goes on to ponder the seeming conspiracy of silence among the mass media and their refusal to highlight the plight of white male victims, even though there was no dearth of evidence.

However, as insidious as the the application of Affirmative Discrimination was in the US, it pales in comparison to what is currently being perpetrated in South Africa.For every white male job applicant in South Africa there are approximately twenty to fifty black applicants, yet it is the minority which legislation enforces discrimination against.The silence of the Western media on this matter(particularly the BBC)borders on the criminal.(The ANC controlled media does not deserve mention as it is merely a propaganda engine.)
Lynch details how American organisations applied an AA selection criteria which resulted in many meritous white applicants being arbritarily rejected.Instead of ensuring that all meritous applicants, regardless of race, be allowed an equal chance to compete, non-meritous black applicants were given preference over skilled white applicants - pure racial engineering. In South Africa the ANC uses demographic and occupational statistics in an attempt to justify its' heinous racial engineering agenda - this is not too different from the Nazis philosophy as expoused by Goebbels.During the Nazis invasion of Eastern Europe they were quick to identify those strategic political and economic positions which were held by Jews and to demand their removal and replacement with Nazis.This is the very same strategy being pursued by the racist ANC regime which demands that the majority of skilled positions available in the economy be occupied by blacks, and imposes substantial financial penalties, and refuses lucrative government tenders, to those organisations who fail to comply speedily enough.This effectively dooms an entire generation of young, white South African males to a future of poverty, regardless of their educational level.This is tantamount to ethnic cleansing and ethnic cleansing is Genocide. This, not crime, is the primary reason for the brain drain from South Africa as many white males would otherwise be reduced to the level of beggars.

While it is unlikely that any of the US Deomcratic party perpetrators will be brought to book, it is a neverending source of puzzlement to me that many white Americans continue to vote for a party which so blatantly sold them out.
Affirmative Action is a Gross Human Rights Violation and must be declared a Crime Against Humanity.
It goes without saying that its' victims should be paid substantial reparations for the economic, psychological and emotional trauma they suffered by having their basic human rights violated by Nazis style social engineering.
