Book Description
A heartbreaking novella from the author of The Clouds Above.
From the editor of the acclaimed comics anthology NON comes this beautiful, emotive "Picto-Novella." Largely wordless and cunningly rendered, this little book is sure to touch most folks. In The Last Lonely Saturday, an older man sits at his kitchen table, filled with melancholy. Dishes are piled up in the sink, a full pot of coffee burns on the counter; it's a quiet scene of existential despair. It quickly becomes clear that the man is a widower, and today is the day to visit his departed wife's gravesite. Little does he know that what the day holds for him will result in this being his last lonely Saturday.
Both sweet and bitter, realistic and fantastic, The Last Lonely Saturday is an evocative, romantic novella, told in a beautiful two-color, red and yellow palette. His economical images waste not a line, and his narrative flows effortlessly from panel to panel in this heartwarming story of love and love lost.
Customer Reviews:
A small book with a big heart.......2007-10-02
Deceptively simple, quietly tender, definitely a tiny jewel -- Jordan Crane has pared down everything to its essence in this superb little tale, with every line speaking volumes. For anyone who has ever deeply loved another, this will strike a deeply-felt chord. Most highly recommended!
Underwhelmed.......2007-01-03
I've recently become more interested in graphic novels from the West, and a friend recommended this book as a "must read". From the standpoint of the "graphic novel", this book doesn't really stack up. But that's okay, because it's not designed to be equal fellow with Dead Walking or J:tHM. Taken as a more artistic work, one finds merit in the absence of any substantial dialog or the simplistic style of art.
But, myself, growing up and growing on Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes, which was filled with incredibly literate dialog and had some notable Sunday editions of the comic that could easily be called complex works of art, found this book to be rather vanilla.
Jordan Crane's Masterpiece!.......2003-06-18
From the editor of the acclaimed comics anthology NON comes a beautiful, emotive work of comic art. Largely wordless and cunningly rendered, this little book is sure to touch most folks. The story is both sweet and bitter, both realistic and fantasic, but Crane is certain of what he's getting at, never conflicted. His economical images waste not a line, and his narrative flows effortlessly from panel to panel.
Crane's style is so inspired and universally appealing that I can see him becoming a sort of Edward Gorey of our time - widely respected and so confident in his craft that is is able to create just what he likes, and is well-loved for it. This book makes a splendid gift, and is further proof that comics are more than just fodder for superhero movies...
The Art of Mime.......2000-07-30
If the careful dance of mime can be translated into a paper medium, then Last Lonely Saturday would be it. The "comic book" genre has gone many steps ahead with this book. I have given it to senior citizens as well as the "Gen X" people and all respond with the same emotion. With a limited amount of words and the way the artist used mimimal amount of lines, it allows the reader to put his own history into the story. It is like a Japanese drawing using only the lightest of the brush to bring an emotion or feeling to the surface. Truly a book to tuck into your pocket or purse and lend or pass on to friends. Some people, hardened citizens of the world, have gotten choked up with the feelings this book evokes. It really is a fun gift to give.

Book Description
The Last Saturday tells the story of what might happen if a man appeared in Britain and performed what could be described as a series of 'miracles'. When a speculative story about who the man might be, a second Jesus or a charlatan, is written by a newspaper journalist there is an explosion of reactions, both highly critical and supportive and the country becomes quickly divided.
The book describes how the appearance of the man and his activities develop and the drama caused by his revolutionary views on religion and other aspects of human life. The man himself is never quoted but his views are revealed by his spokesman, a person affected by one of the first his 'miracles'. His views are controversial and challenge many of the beliefs of the past two thousand years. There is a strong reaction by all sections of the church
The story is told through the lives of people who are directly or indirectly associated with him or who are affected by his words.
The story has a dramatic ending.

not really helpful.......2007-03-17
This book, although intriguing from the title, does not show you how to kill your girlfriend's cats. Comic pictures at best describe something that should be given a step by step manual. Like: use rat poison in the water. Put in microwave. Hold underwater. Don't feed. Any of these ideas are not given the proper explanation.
The Best How-To Book Ever Written!.......2002-04-18
Excerpt from the Introduction:
"After all these years, you've met the girl of your dreams. She's beautiful. Brilliant. Fun. Sexy. No old boyfriends darken the picture. No mother shows up six times a day. No annoying habits intrude. Unlike your last girlfriend, she does not practice the Ninja Death Strike while asleep.
The fact is, you've fallen in love. Now only one problem threatens your bliss. You ignored it at first, but that phase is over. You can't stand it anymore. Your girlfriend has a cat ..."
I bought this book nearly 12 years ago and laughed myself silly. Replete with illustrations, this book lists dozens of great ways to rid yourself of the pesky feline that stands between you and your girl. From "Catsorcism" to "Return the Cat to Its Homeland (Catmandu)" to "Take a Taxi to the Dentist? I Thought You Said Taxidermist!", this book will have you in stitches... Hire them as a cook or handyman for a day. Around these guys, nine lives just aren't enough.
If you love the girl, you'll buy this book. You want to stay with her, don't you? Remember, behind every successful relationship is a dead cat.

Come on..........2004-11-30
This book and the one before it look like they would be really funny. From the two previous comments about animal abuse and how awful it is for Amazon to sell these books...get a life! There is such a thing as humor, just because it is written does not mean someone is going to act on it. If people were to take this literally--then they have some issues. People can't do anything without someone whining about it, even if its just humor.
Despicable book.......2001-06-11
I am very disappointed that Amazon.com provides exposure for such books and sordid graphics as "How to Kill Your Girlfriends Cat Again".I have witnessed too much animal abuse to consider this inane book the least funny. Animal abuse and animal killings - are not a laughing matter. There are too many worthwhile books still not included on the Amazon site to devote space to this type of offering. This and the earlier book richly deserve being out of print. Why would anyone spend good money on this trash?
disgusting.......1999-03-10
it is a vile book and whoever reads it is sick. Cats are wonderful animal
A fun spoof.......1999-02-10
There have been many a day when my girlfriend's cat tried to kill me. About a month ago I walked from my girlfriend's living room to use the restroom. As I stepped onto the mat outside of the bathroom door I head and felt a strange click under my foot. Having seen many war movies and bad 70's TV shows I expected the worst. With my foot still pressed down, I carefully lifted up the side of the pink fuzzy mat to see a crudely built land mine. If I attempted to lift my foot I would be blown up. Upon closer examination of this deadly device I noticed an unusual amount of cat hair. I looked up and saw my girlfriend's cat glance at me and then scurry off. Soon the cat returned with a plate of fresh brownies. Wow they smelled good. I was almost tempted to step off the land mine and get blasted beyond recognition. But I suddenly realized that was all part of the cat's plan. Using an ingenious method, I managed to escape.
As a matter of survival I purchased "How to Kill Your Girlfriend's Cat Again" I tried all the techniques in the book only to have every one of them backfire on me. My girlfriend's cat also managed to drain my bank account, frame me for arson and get me thrown in jail. I am currently writing this review from the library of the state penitentiary without permission.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2007-08-25
This introduction to the bass guitar rushes the reader through the basics without spending enough time actually helping you learn the basics. The bass lines are dull too. However the "play along" tracks on the accompanyting CD are great and probably worth the price of the book.
Excellent book.......2007-03-14
Out of the 15 or so books I have bought about guitar and bass, this is the best by far.
Okay book.......2007-03-11
This book has a tremendous amount of information, but it really is flawed in that it doesn't really provide the frequent practice portions that many of the tall thin books have. The information is good, but the mediocre practice portion just makes it an okay book in my opinion.
Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing Bass Guitar.......2007-03-08
David Hodge's guide to playing BASS is easy to read and understand. There is something in this book for the beginner as well as the advanced player. The guide follows a natural progression in skills and allows the BASS player to progress at their own speed. I have been out of music for many years...This book was capable of bringing me back up to speed very quickly with regard to scales and chords. The CD that accompanies the lessons allows the reader the chance to hear and feel the rhythm of what is being played as well as being able to see the notes on the page. I am very satisfied with my purchase and I will be utilizing this book for many years.
Good Not Great.......2007-02-18
As someone picking up the bass for the first time this is a decent book although it gets into the theory aspect of music a little too much if someone isn't familiar with reading and playing already. There are lots of good tips and hints and the CD is alright.
I also purchased "Bass Guitar for Dummies" and although they cover a lot of the same territory, they compliment each other well. If you buy one, its worth it to buy the other.

Customer Reviews:
A Good Start.......2007-09-24
I usually recoil from anything "Idiot's", but when I saw Noad's name on it I was curious. I own several of this famous guitarist/educator's books and thought it would be worth a look. This is a great book! It is appropriate for the absolute beginner; and is also useful to more experienced guitarists. It includes history and interesting guitar information to enhance and add context to the lessons. It does not create the false impression that anyone can learn guitar without hard work and practice; but it does move a student along quickly in simple fashion. I played a beautiful Gomez piece, "Plegaria" from a later chapter in the book (I have not found it anywhere else) at a music circle and it was very well recieved. The CD is also very helpful. I will continue use this book with my students and my own studies.
Great book for people who want to learn the basics of playing guitar........2007-05-12
The book came in the mail and was in great condition. I have found the book to be very informational and easy to follow. I enjoy the information and I am on my way to learning the basics of guitar playing. Awesome book.
Not as useful as I hoped.......2007-01-04
I'm an idiot when it comes to guitar and I didn't find it as helpful as I hoped. Probably because I'm a visual learner, I got stuck after a few chapters. I highly recommend Esteban's beginner series with DVD. I learned more in 5 minutes than I got from this book. I learned chords and exercises immediately which I can use to start building up those all-important callouses on the fingertips. Unfortunately, visual learners like me will not find this book very useful except for it's interesting background info on guitar history.
A fine method for fine learners.......2006-12-22
I received the book one week ago... however, I am still waiting for my LaPatrie Hybrid guitar ordered five months ago. Nevertheless, I feel strongly this method is made for me. The presentation is enjoyable (the book stays open when you need it does, layout is clean, etc), lessons are intelligently graded, not childish at all. CD's tracks cover a wide range of styles and gives the reader impulse to experiment much more than classic, the style usually associated with nylon-string guitar, the kind of instrument the book is (fortunately) oriented to. An excellent tool to learn flying your own wings. A well-cut gem.
Extremely useful; challenging for a beginner.......2006-04-16
So I'm writing this a year after I got this book. I had never attempted to play anything on the guitar, and this book was the first of any guitar books that I have.
Its not perfect, but it was a great launch pad for what was ahead. There is a huge range of songs in here that provide even now, a fun challenge.
That being said, I'll be concise--pro's and cons'
Pro's:
It is wonderful to have a CD to play with.
There are huge amounts of varying level, and style, songs to try.
It is an EXCELLENT book, 5 stars, IF you can pick read around some of the seemingly overly difficult ideas for total beginners. Know when to skip pages!
Some really wonderful songs!
Con's:
When the mention of chords came in, 'oh my darlin', it said 'just do these'. It took *forever* to get those two chords comfortably moving to eachother. I tend not to continue in a book until I feel comfortable with what I've passed, but tell you what, I didn't feel like 'ohmyarling'ing' for hours on end, it drove me insane. So I moved on, thank god.
It seemed to me that the book was more full of theory than practical application. There was far far more theory than the beginner could get a grasp on because regardless of whether or not it mentions 10 or 40 chords--I didn't have 3 down by the time it was mentioning ridiculous amounts of them.
By far the most progress made was by playing. Not reading the endless amounts of dry theory. Now going back to this, a year later, it makes sense because I can apply it.
About half the songs were garbage to me. That may just be me though. When its frustrating to learn a starting song over 30 seconds or so, and you're playing the song and thinking 'this song kind of sucks'--there isn't much inspiration to continue. That being said, there were some songs I loved, particularly towards the end.
Anyway, I learned alot. A lot was useless. It more challenging than I expected for a beginners book but had enough content to keep me permanently busy. This book could be cut in half, or less. Still, I liked it.

Book Description
This special issue contains four articles that focus on a number of important Multichannel Video Program Distribution (MVPD) market issues and concerns. The first article strategically groups management theory and clusters analysis to empirically identify a number of different MVPD programmer strategic groups. The second article uses historical Government Accounting Office data set and counts models to empirically examine the factors effecting cable operators' local television station 1989 carriage decisions--a period in which the FCC had no must carry rules in place. The third article utilizes diffusion theory and discriminant analysis to dissect the key factors determining whether consumers become early adopters of digital cable. The fourth article covers the basic economic and technological assumptions underlying cable operators' attempts to use their digital platforms to deliver "on demand" video services.
